Course Applied: Medicine

Venue: Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Kuching

Experience: Introduction in BM (Name, school, family background) They will ask you
more if they want to know more.

Questions from interviewers (Eng/BM) Choose one language which you can
answer well. In my panel (2), mostly the one in the middle will ask you the
questions. The two beside her will ask/shoot you based on your answers and
they are writing most of the time, not sure what are they writing. Consist of
3 interviewers, doctors or officers form health department. My group consists
of 4 medicine & 1 dentistry with 3 boys and 2 girls which includes me. They
asked about what we learned from the Program Pendedahan Kerjaya Seorang
Doktor except for the one applying for Dentistry and why we choose this
course. Then they asked about which country you chose to go and the
reasons for it. The questions that they asked us were mainly about our
career. Our interview lasted less than 1 hour. I think our interview was quite
relaxing as there was not group discussion and they didn't give us any topics
to discuss. I think maybe mostly our group members are applying for Medicine
so they asked more about our career. By the way, there are 2 rooms for the
interview, I am in Room 2 so I'm not sure about how the interviewers will ask
for the Room 1. That's all for my experience that I can share with you all,
hope it helps.

Rating: 8/10

Advices/Additional info: Just try to be yourself when you are answering the questions
and you have to really know what you really want and yourself,
always smile and be confidence in your speaking and they are
testing your maturity when they ask you questions so make sure
you answer maturely. For your information, there are 8,610
interviewees and only 1,500 will be selected. The results will be out on
May.

All the best for those who are attending the interview & May God Bless You! ;)

Course Applied: Pharmacy

Venue: Intan Kampus, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Experience: Our interview group happened to be the first of the day. In a way, can be said as lucky. My group consisted of 2 males and 3 females. 3 applying for medic, 1 for dentistry and another for pharmacy (Me!). The interview panel consisted for 3 officials. 1 was a doctor, the other 2 I wasn't certain as they didn't quite introduce themselves beyond their names. Introduction was done in English but it was just a very brief one. We were then asked to introduce more thoroughly, that is including our parent's occupations and co-curricular achievements as well as what course we took. Each of us took sort of a lengthy while. The interview panel was especially keen to 'shoot' us if our mothers' happened to be a housewife. That is, ask us if a housewife is really considered a job, how we can we pay for our mothers if it really is a job, etc.

From there, the interview panel then asked each of us in further detail why we chose our course. Personally, I felt I messed up this part as I mentioned that pharmacists can both prescribe and dispense drugs to patients... One of the interview panel advised me to read up more on the roles of pharmacists and how they differ from doctors >.>. Got rather embarrassed there. I did manage to save it (I think!) when the interviewer asked me further details on pharmacy. For example, are traditional medicines a good thing and should they be stocked in pharmacies? I answered yes to both, and elaborated on it a a a bit. I used the "Mata kuching" as my example, stating it is said to cure diabetes and can be used as to 'buang angin. Also, i was asked this partly in English, and partly in Malay. Another person who mentioned his inspiration to be a doctor was because he had a lot of ailing relatives, one of them happened to have passed away from hepatitis B. One of the interview panel who happened to be the doctor pressed him on this. Asking him how much he knew about Hepatitis such as how it is transmitted and how many forms there are... the guy only got the transmission part right. There was then another, a girl also aspiring to be a doctor, who mentioned she initially wanted to be a nurse. The interviewer pressed her on this and asked her how important is a nurse's role in health care and from there pressed her on the role of infection control. For the final part of the interview, we were then reminded that we will have to return to nation to serve the goverment as there have been many cases of graduates refusing to return after they finished their course. We were also very briefly asked which country we wanted to study in and why.

Also, here's a funny thing. We didn't have a group discussion in the end. Our interview ended sorta abruptly as it seems like the interviewers have misjudged how long the introduction and personal questions part took and hence decided to omit the group discussion part. Could be because we were the very first group to be interviewed.. I had a bad feeling it might reflect badly on ALL of us though. Lucky us perhaps as well, but I can't help but feel a bit disappointed as I felt it could be a better chance to shine for me and also because I actually put a fair bit of effort getting to know the current events and likely topics they'll ask.

In a nutshell, the interview went alright. The interviewers were rather friendly folks, adding a few jokes here and there to lighten the mood and perhaps ease the tension. And I didn't happen to lose all my words at any crucial period. At the very end, I was the only one who shook hands with the panels, but they said it wasn't necessary... Not sure if that was a good thing...

Addendum: The whole interview was 80% English, 20% BM for our group.

Rating: 7/10

Advice/Additional info: Conclusion? Careful with what you say, seems like it WILL be used against you one way or another later in the interview, so better know your stuff instead of just spitting out whatever you have in mind! Read up on your course's roles, how and where to study it and such among other things. Also, one of the persons interviewed didn't alter his language when the interviewer altered his and that got him nicely told in the end. So, please bear in mind that if you're asked in BM, answer in BM and same goes for English.

And one more thing, don't be shy to chat and get to know the others who are going for the interview as well. Not only will this perhaps train your tongue and confidence, it'll also roughly help you judge your chances of nailing the scholarship. My batch had a large majority of aspiring doctors and dentists, and only a small handful of aspiring pharmacists... could be a good thing, but one can never be sure with assumptions like these.

Final notes: All the best for the rest who have yet to take the interview!

PILN

7.15 am Just a few souls wandering around.

8.00am Getting more and more crowded as students and parents all stand around the front door

8.15am Announcing the arrivals of the interviewers!

8.20am Scrambled up the stairs and elevator.

8.21am Waiting waiting waiting...

8.30am Handed in my clear folder at the table in front of Bilik Baidurah (or something I
can't remember)

8.32am My name was called and I was given a tag with the number 4. Pinned it on my Baju Kurung.

8.33am Sat down in the chair outside Bilik Baidurah and chit chatted with fellow interviewees. All of them chose medicine while I chose dentistry.

9.00am Still chatting, getting more and more nervous.

9.10am The people from the first group walked out of the Bilik Baidurah telling us to answer in BM if they asked in BM, and answer in English if they asked in English.

9.15am Our turn!!!! Walked in, said "Good morning." Managed to force out a smile. Well I hope it was a smile. Too nervous.

9.15am to 10.30am

"Good morning."

"Yes, good morning. This session will last for approximately 45 minutes. We will now begin with a short introduction of yourselves. Anyone can start first." Said the first interviewer who was an Indian.

I can't really remember what language he used so I answered him in my own Rojak style. One sentence with half of it in BM and the other in English.

After that, he said "Please answer the following in English. If you were to be selected by JPA and after your studies, JPA wants to send you to work in rural areas where you have to climb hills, take sampans and all, are you willing to do so? We'll give you two minutes to jot down your points and then we'll discuss."

After 15 seconds, or so it seemed to me, he said,"Anyone can start first." I didn't start first. I was the third one or the second one to answer. Can't remember. Well of course everyone said that they are willing to do so. My answer? I said yes too. Even though pacat is one of my worst phobias, I would go hill climbing or whatever to reach my destination because those challenges I'll meet is nothing compared to what our patients are facing. I was thinking,"wow, where did that come from. LOL" Then he says,"you have to realise that you are there for not only two or three months but maybe for 6 to 10 years. Everyday kena pacat gigit." I said,"I'll spray spray lah. An obligation is an obligation. JPA has given me education and I'll definitely pay it back by contributing to the society."

Then, it was another Malay Lady's turn to ask. "Why do you want to study overseas? Why not Malaysia?" There we had a small debate. More like a discussion. We, the interviewees were quite united actually. We supported each others' points and sticked to why we wanted to go to overseas. Among the reasons we gave were "1. Experience 2. Exposure 3. To be independent 4. Malaysia is home, we feel safe here. 5. To be more adaptable in different surroundings" The interviewers were united as well, they kept on saying that medicine in Malaysia is not bad, Malaysia produces the best doctors in Malaysia. (Yes, I revised the sentence already, that was what she said.)

In between the Indian interviewer and the Malay Lady was another Malay Lady who was a doctor. She didn't ask much questions but responded to our answers lah and also helped promote Malaysia and all.

They did ask where do we want to go and I answered "UK". They said JPA will not be sending students to the UK, Ireland or where ever that we said we wanted to go to. We were asked to choose between India and Indonesia. T.T Leaving us with no choice, most of us chose to go to India.

They didn't really "shoot" us that badly. We managed to survive unscathed. Before going out of Bilik Baidurah, we were allowed to ask a few questions. I asked how many students are going to be given the JPA scholarship this year. They explained saying that this year, there are about 10 thousand applicants and they are going to choose about 1500 students from each course applied? Not sure what I heard. (CITATION NEEDED)

So we shook hands, thanked them and walked out of the room. We couldn't go home just yet because they took our clear folder into another room for some people to check. Mysterious man~
So we continued to chit chat and we all agreed that it was fun and enjoyable, not as tough as we thought it would be because lucky for us, we weren't asked about current issues like H1N1 or so.

Note: The above experience happened in a blink of an eye. I'm trying hard to recall what had actually happened. The above story told might not be 100% true.

Ahhh!!! I hope I'll get it. *fingers crossed*

RAting? I don;t know. Can someone rate me?

Advice: Don't give lengthy answers but answers that actually means something. Does that make sense? It's not how much words you say but the message that you're trying to convey.

GOOD LUCK!

Course Applied: Medicine

Venue: Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Abdullah, Raub, Pahang.

Group:
I was in the second group of the first panel. There were 4 chinese, including me, and my malay friend Fatihah! 2 medicine, 1 dentistry, 1 vet, and 1 pharmacy. I got a small number tag with the number 2! :))

Self-introduction(BM):
We can talk about anything we want. So I talked about my name, parents' occupation, course chosen, co-curriculum achievement, highest post held at school!

Questions:
Before they (there were 3 of them) started asking us questions, they told us that they expect us to answer in BM if we were asked in BM, and answer in english if we were asked in that language.

1) Why choose medicine?
2) Why choose overseas over local?
3) Quality of water in Malaysia
4) Common cancer in Malaysia
5) Stress management

These were one of the big topics that we discussed together. The interviewers tend to pop out some random questions, asked particularly to a few person.

For me:
1) Would you work in rural places?
Of course I said yes.
2) Would you work in Kuala Tahan?
I said yes!
3) Do you know where is Kuala Tahan?
I said... err, nope! (all the interviewers laugh like mad! :huh)

Rating:
8/10
I don't know if I did well, or was it just an illusion. The interviewers were very nice to us but then again, they might just failed us all! :cry (touch wood)

Advices:
For me, I think the most important part is to speak something that you are really confirmed of. For example, there was this group member of mine who talked about a particular information about something, but in truth, his fact was wrong and the interviewer had to correct him and his misconception in front of other interviewers openly. To me, this was really not a good impression to give. Just try to relax! :))

Important:
1) Don't shake you leg
2) Don't cross your leg
3) Don't look at the ceiling while you talk
4) Don't look at the carpet while you talk
5) Don't end and start your sentence with "errr.......i hor...."

Other than that, I think I did quite okie. Hopefully it is not just a dream of pure illusion to me! :) Overall, it was really a great experience! Even though I couldn't get it, I still think I had a wonderful time! (touch wood)

Good luck to all!

By the way, when is the result coming out? :huh

In the interests of a smooth flow in this topic, may I request that all interview-related questions be channeled to the JPA Interview Discussion thread? =) Let's leave this one for Experience Sharing only, mkay?

Edit: All posts asking interview-related questions will be moved to the "Big Thread On JPA Scholarships", so be warned.

I'm posting this based on my friend's interview held this morning.

Course applied : Dentistry - Ipoh

Self-introduction (English+BM): As usual, names, high school, parents' job, brief infos on coco

Questions:
1. Why dentistry.
2. Why overseas instead of local since Malaysia provide similar education as other countries.
3. Asked questions based on coco (e.g. my friend participated in national bible quiz, the interviewer asked her to compare islam with christian/also in her team got another soccer player asked about the recent soccer match)
4. Bincangkan konsep 1 Malaysia.
5. Lets say the 3 of us (interviewers) are children, can you tell us how to brush our teeth correctly. (my friend's friend that went in before her have to answer this question)

Good luck to those that will be going to interview tomorrow!!

JPA Interview
One word to describe? - Fun.

So first of all, I reached there at about quarter to two, and students were already flocking the ground floor. So first you need to head to the tables where the list is pasted on them, and you need to sign your attendance. Take notice of your panel number on the upper left corner! (I'm in Panel 2)

Then you will have to wait for your name to be called. I waited for approximately half an hour.

My name was called, together with four other members. It's a group session, and 5 members are interviewed at once. My name was the first in the group, so I get tag #1. Please do not worry if you got #1 because trust me, being #1 has its advantages.

You would have to hand in your clear folders to the secretary and they'll check it for you. Just put them aside for now.

After waiting for another half an hour in the waiting room, the secretary finally led us into the room for Panel 2, and since I was #1, I knocked the door and entered the room first - and did the greeting first - and I were to sit at the far right.

My interviewers were of two Malay guys and one Malay woman. Their English are good, so don't think you can fool them.

And then, the session commences.

Since I'm the #1, I was the first one to introduce myself. One of the male interviewer asked me to introduce myself in one minute, about myself, my family, why I choose to pursue the course of my choice (which is Pharmacy) and also which country do I prefer to study in. It was asked in English - which is surprising.

You have to buck up by now, let your brain start running otherwise you would stutter when it's your turn. That's #1 round.

#2 round
Our question was about our opinion regarding Klinik 1Malaysia. This was asked in Bahasa Malaysia. To tell the truth, I know nothing about that. I have never even heard about Klinik 1Malaysia. This question was asked by the female interviewer, and she personally asked one by one to answer.

And oh, my group consisted of (in number order) me, Fahmi, Faiz, Adibah and Fa-something I forgot. Ouch.

So she asked Faiz first, then Fahmi, then me. Neither of us knew about this thing, but Fahmi did talk about medication pricing as low as 1MYR, but I just blabbered about how 1Malaysia concept and its motto help unify the country and stuff. Make sure you google up about this (those taking the medical field - for general knowledge at least).

Then the guy interviewer asked about why the Klinik 1Malaysia is situated in the city and not in the rural areas. He said it was because that the government hospital closes at 5pm, while Klinik 1Malaysia opens from 10AM to 10PM, which gives sufficient time to those who works until late in the evening to get treatment and diagnoses. I don't know how true this is, but if you have the time, try searching for this info or maybe get around the city to find this Klinik 1Malaysia =.=

#3 round

The another guy interviewer asked about Kids nowadays are spoiled and undisciplined. Discuss. And since no one volunteered to speak first, so I took the initiative to raise my hand and explain my opinion.

I said parents are one of the major causes - especially in places like KL and more advanced cities - where bars, pubs and entertainment centres. Parents who don't really take good care of the children's welfare have no one else to blame other than themselves should their children turn bad.

The interviewer looked shocked, and Interviewer Guy A asked, so you blame your parents? And I said, well... I think I'm a good kid? And all three of them laughed.

And then when I ended my explanation, Interviewer Guy B asked me again whether I think that parents should be held responsible, and I said YES immediately and firmly. And he was like, okay...

Here comes the reason why I said being #1 is good. I mean, during the discussion, order don't count, but it sort of gives you the boost of confidence as long as you don't screw up your introduction. First impression is important! Remember to take the initiative because when the incident below happens, you are the original.

I said parents, remember? And the other two also talked about parents, and Interviewer Guy B said, parents again? How about the children?

Take the initiative, but don't over-do it. Otherwise it'll look like you're dominating the conversation.

After that, that's all! It was weird because my friends said that they all were asked with 3 questions, while ours is only, two? Weird, maybe time constraint, like what ZhiMing said.

Anyway, after they said we could leave, I stood up first and proceeded to shake the woman's hand. And the others also start following me to shake hand with the interviewers. Before I left, I commented that the Interviewer Guy A's tie was nice, and he looked flabbergasted before sputtering a 'thank you'.

Uh, did I over-do it? XD I don't know. But it was fun.
After that, the secretary would return back your clear folder and you may leave with a smile! :)

course applied: Medicine

Venue: INTAN, Sungai Petani

experience: i was lucky because my panels were not so strict nor "troublesome". there were 5 of us in the group to enter the room with 3 panels.
questions asked:
1) self intro (not too long, only about 3 to 4 minutes, i have prepared a long 1, i gt stopped by the panels :(to ask me to go to the final point: why u wanna become a doctor...)
2) what would u do if u see an accident, a bloody and horrible 1? then what about if the person involved broke his leg? what are u gonna do if u were a doctor there? (about general knowledge...)
3) asked to give a 2-minute talk on a current medical issue spontaneously, eg AH1N1, dengue... (this part i have done badly. i had the points but i couldnt present them fluently...:cry ...)
4) what do u think about the local government university(ipta)?
5) are u willing to work in rural area after u graduate? for how long? 3 years, 5 years, or till u retire?
6)which country would u prefer to study in?

other groups questions:
1) global warming
2) insurans(not sure about what.... cz i couldnt understand the question)
........

i was lucky (or not) because no group discussion in my group..... but there were some other group had their group discussions. some were to present their results but some were panelised during the discussion.

Advice: do not try to be outstanding by cutting other's point when they are talking (makes me i really dont like the purple girl in my group). u will get ur turn to present your points... but you may volunteer yourself to be the first to start the talk if u already have the idea about what u are gonna talk. just be yourself and confidence.:)). the panels are kind, but u yourself also have to help yourself to leave good impression to them.
generally, i did well,(except the two parts mentioned above...) try to think before u answer the questions (but i understand that you might get very very nervous and just talk whatever that come to your mind...), try to sound mature and knowledgable, but not pretending as if u know everything. admit it if u really know nothing about the question asked.

may also take the chance to meet new friends...

All the best....:amuse

course applied: dentistry
venue: pustaka negeri sarawak
duration: almost an hour because the interviewers share about experience and the challlenges at overseas.

Group: 2nd batch of panel 2, 5 people ( 3 medicine, 1 dentistry, 1 pharmacy)

introduction: they requested in bm. i told them my brother is studying in Bapuji Dental College in India and they asked me why i didnt choose to go to India.XD I said so that we can visit each other and they laughed. But at the end of "argueing", i said i'm willing to go to india too.

Questions(can use bm/bi): 1. Do u choose overseas because of glamour? Why not local? And why not India and Indonesia?
2. Do u want the scholarship or u want to go overseas?
3. If i give u other course at overseas, will u accept?
4. Do u think cancer is on a rise or it's because the doctor can detect it easily now?
5. What are the good local universities in Malaysia?
6. What make u so special that u deserve the scholarship?( dont say dat u have good results)

Rating: 8/10

Advices: Be honest and be yourself during the interview. Dont cross ur legs. Be confident and listen to other people's answers. Pay attention. Do not say local universities r nt good or else they will shoot u.

Extra info: the interviewer said the results are out on 12 march. Dont know true or not coz notice stated on 3rd week of May(17-21may). We dun get to talk much during the interview because the interviewer keeps asking questions and of course we should give chance to others. :)

Course Applied: Medicine >> pharmacy
Pusat Temuduga: Sibu, Sarawak

Experience: My group : 1 medicine, 2 dentistry and 2 pharmacy (include myself)
Introduction 1 minute (we did it in english)
Topic: Banyak doktor-doktor di hospital kerajaan pindah ke swasta. Mengapa?
There was only one topic in my interview, and we did it in Malay because the interviewer asked the question in Malay.
And since I change courses, they asked why..

I was a bit worried because I don't think I performed well when I presented my point for the topic, and there was no second chance for me to perform better because after everyone presented their point (and of course they will ask questions about your point), the session was over, no other questions.. :(

The interviewers are kind and funny (although they might ask some hard-to-answer questions), so be more relaxed :)

Rating: 7/10 (i don't think i did well because there was one time i got shot by the interviewer and i could not answer... T.T)

Advice/Additional info:
Don't be nervous!! seriously.. don't be blur!! Don't listen too deeply into what the other candidates are saying (because there was one candidate that had her intro wrong because of that!)
Stick to you point during discussion pls.. elaborate on your point, don't summarize all the points during discussion, unless you're the last one.. or else if the first one does that, the others will be a bit helpless...
Remember to photocopy your pay slip too!

ok here's how..1st we take take our number...and i get my "lucky" number again, 4.
when i see the the number 4, i was like, WTF?! 4 again? ok skip..
then we enter the room where we need to interview.

by the way i'm in panel 1.

the panel judge consist of 1 malay man,1 malay woman and 1 chinese man
we greet them and smile to them...but unfortunately...they did not smile to us...especially the malay woman...so the atmosphere seems to be very tense and serious...

then they call us to introduce ourself....so..the 1st malay guy in my group start off 1st...in malay...then everyone follow him by introducing themselves in malay also..

after that the malay women(she sit in the middle) ask us this:
"semua kamu ni, hendak buat medic kan(we all nod our heads), so....apakah ciri-ciri yang perlu ada dalam diri seorang doktor?"

then my group answer some nilai nilai like:"bertanggungjawab, penyayang, belas kasihan and minat"

i'm the last one to answer:"saya rasa seorang doktor perlu ada bertanggungjawab penyayang..." then i stop...cause suddenly i forgot how to speak in malay LOL...
then i ask:"may i speak in english please?"
the woman say:"if you do not know the word you can substitute the word with english then continue in english"
but i didn't do so..i speak in english:"for me i think that...a doctor need a good communication skils, must be sociable because if you know how to communicate with the patient, you will be able to know what's wrong with the patient, if you do not know how to communicate with your patient, you might done a wrong analysis, dan doktor perlu bertanggungjawab and ada kasih sayang terhadap pesakitnya...(i forgot what i said already xP)

the next question:"what is your best achievements until now?"
my answer:" my best achievement until is i improved alot during the 2 years time...because my PMR only got 4As but SPM i get 9As, moreover, i compete in the national biology competition held by the university of toronto which is a more even higher level than our syllabus, and i manage to beat 70% of the contestant and get a certificate of achievement."

actually i wanna add-on but the judge said another question before i can raise up my hand again...what i want to add-on is "we got the same best achievement actually...that is step in into this place...we study for about 11 years just to get what we want, what we are chasing, that's this scholarships...and we manage to climb until this level...so i think that that's our best achievement that we have in common."

then they ask:"so...can you all share your secret of success?"
my answer:" actually my secret of success is very simple, you just need to hear what is the teacher teaching about concentrate on it and do not talk to your friends while the teacher is talking in front, and before the teacher teaches the chapter, you can read it on your own and if you have questions just write it in a paper then when the teacher teach that chapter, some of the questions you may cancel out already, and you must be brave to ask question to the teacher also."

then the last question:"how you, yourself help in preserving and conserving the environment"
the chinese guy speak to soft already...we didn't hear it clearly so...i raise my hand and ask:"pardon, can you repeat the question?"
then he repeat it..
many of my group members said about planting trees, stop open burning, write a letter to the government.."
then i said:"i will support earth hour, because our electrical application actually most of it is using fuel, when combust the fuel will emit carbon dioxide about 40% to the earth this will make the earth warm(LOL) this is what we call global warming...so by switching off the electrical application we can prevent this happened...besides that i will do enzymes, do you know enzymes(i ask the judge, he nod his head with a smile)? i will put it into the drains cause the enzymes will decompose the sampah(LOL, he smile) ,rubbish and the bacteria...i will also not do pembakaran terbuka, open burning(i LOL to myself again=.=)

then the malay guy(judge) shoot me back(is it a good thing or a bad thing?)
:"so do you think 1 hour is enough?"

i answer:"actually is not enough...but if you see 1 second the whole world switch off the electrical application, 1 second the emission of carbon dioxide is in tonnes, if we switch off the electrical application for 1 hour we can save the emission of carbon dioxide by about 20 to 30%"

he shoot me again:"1 year 1 hour then another year 1 hour?"

me:" ar...actually we can use solar energy, now UKM have invented the solar panel which use to generate hot water...so i think we will be using it in the future.."

then he nod is head and say:"actually self awareness is the most important"
then they ask if we got any questions?
i ask:"how many percent does this interview have in this scholarship?"
the women anwer:"it is just a few percent but it will affect your chances"
then we thanks and shake hands will panel judge except the women....cause i'm a boy.=.=

and during the interview i always give people chances to answer 1st when we both raise up our hands...

after the interview my group indian girl said that i'm good..cause i thought about earth hour...and my mom said that i'm good in the interview also...but i think that i done badly in the interview..

my rating:6.3/10

advice:brush up your BM.

P.S. we do not give 1 or 2 minute to think...they ask a question and about 5 seconds we answered the question already...and no group discussion for us

Date: 6 April

Course Applied: Science

Venue: Maktab Perguruan Raja Melewar, Seremban

Experience:
It's pretty much the same as explained in the previous posts, but I'll just share my side of the story :)

In the letter, my interview was stated at 2pm. So I reached there about 1.30pm. Just go to where you're being directed to and you'll see some tables which are written there "Panel 1/2/3". You'll have to go to the notice board first and sign your name. Be sure to check which panel you're in and then go to the tables(Panel1/2/3) and sign your name one more time. After that, you just wait for your turn to be called by the people in charge.

I was in Panel 1. And my name was the 4th name. (NOTE: If I'm not mistaken, the names are in order of your birthday. Mine is early Jan. That's why my name is 4th placing). At 2pm, the lady called my group in. (2 chinese, 3 malay. 4 girls, 1 guy. 2 science locally, 1 law, 1 accountancy and me doing science overseas).

You hand in your clear folder with your documents and your photostated copies. They will give you your number tag which you must wear (Mine is No.4). Then they will bring you to a room.

In the room, there'll be 5 chairs in a row directly in front of the table where the interviewers are sitting. Stand there until the interviewers tell you to sit. Mine was 2 Malay guys and 1 Indian lady. The guy in the middle will do most of the talking (and he spoke very fluent English). He'll introduce himself and tell you the statistics of JPA scholarship (like 10,000 got callback, only 1,500 will get). Then, he said the interview will be done in 2 parts.

First Part (Introduction)
Mine was done in English (thank god!!). Just tell about yourself, your school, cocuricular activities, family, what course, why you choose that course, where you want to do your course. There is actually no time limit but try not to drag so long, otherwise the interviewer will cut you halfway and ask you some questions. Like mine, the first Malay girl took almost 15 mins and the interviewer kept shooting her with questions.

Second Part (Question)
Ours only had one question. Which was also done in English. The question was "Scholarship are funded by the citizens of this country by paying tax. How do you think you can repay them?" They give you about 5 minutes to jot down your points. When time's up, anyone can volunteer to speak first. I spoke the 4th anyway. After you've done giving your points, they WILL definitely shoot some questions at you. So be careful with your points! The guy who was taking Law was asked by one of them "How are the laws in Malaysia made?" He started reciting the stuffs in our Sejarah book, but the lady cut in halfway and told him "that was the end process, how about the beginning?" The guy couldnt answer but the lady said "It's okay". So those taking law, be careful!

After that, they'll ask you if you have any questions. None of us asked, so he said thank you for coming. Then we just stood up, said thank you and left the room. After you leave the room, just wait for your folder to come back and then you can go home.

Advice/Additional info:
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, don't panic. The interviewers are generally nice. We even laughed during the interview after some mistakes. So it was definitely not as horrifying as I thought.
- Bring paper and pen. You're not even allowed to bring a notebook inside.
- Speak clearly and loudly. It shows you're confident.
- Don't say facts you're not sure about! Those interviewers will shoot you questions if you say something incorrectly. They're seriously smart, haha.
- If your're doing overseas, BE SURE to know more about the course (overall cost, the country, why it's good). Again, don't simply say stuffs if you're not sure.

All the best to everyone else who's yet to take the interview!

Course Applied: Medicine

Date : 5 April
Time : 8 a.m. (1st batch!!)
Venue : UTeM, Durian Tunggal, Melaka

Experience : We were divided into five panels at first, according to the name list which they had prepared. Then, we were further divided into 5 groups; with each group comprising 5 persons. Each interview took ...about 45 mins to an hour. Before entering the interview room, we were supposed to hand over our clear folder (with all that's in it) and the things needed to be photocopied and certified (according to the Surat Temu Duga) to a secretary outside. We were then given number tags and a piece of plain paper(just in case we needed to jot anything down)

There were 3 interviewers - one JPA officer, one Kementerian officer, and a doctor. Make sure that you sit only after the interviewers permit you to. They began with asking us to introduce ourselves on our family background, financial status, which school we used to go to, and co-curricular activities.

Next, they began asking us questions on the latest issues. This part of the interview was supposed to be the "discussion" part, but it's more like asking our "pendapat". They will state a topic and you'll have to raise your hand before giving your opinion (it doesn't go accor...ding to your numbers). The number of questions asked ranges from 3 to 5 (I came to this conclusion after comparing with a few friends from different groups). You'll have to answer in the language in which they used to ask the questions.

The interview was actually quite brief and short (although it was almost an hour, but it didn't feel that way :P) as they went straight to the point.

Oh, and in case you wanted to know, these were the questions given to my group :
1. If you were to be stationed to the rural areas of Sabah & Sarawak in the future, would you accept it? (Don't give empty promises, coz they might serang you balik)
2. The society do not use the public transportation these days. Give your ...opinion on this matter.
3. Students act as the ambassadors of M'sia to promote the country to foreigners. Give your opinion on this matter.
4. The youth of today do not have patriotism in them. Give you opinion on this matter.

(Questions 1, 2, and 4 were in BM whilst Question 3 was in English)

Rating: 8/10

Advice/Additional info: Try to be confident and think before answering any questions. Coz thinking avoids u from being bombarded by them later on... Gd luck, guys!!

venue: kluang, johor

experience: well mine was pretty short, lasted for around 30mins++. we were asked to briefly self-introduce ourselves. the interviewers didn't specifically ask us to speak in english but since they asked in english, we all talked in english. then questions asked include, apakah kualiti terbaik anda? apakah cita-cita anda? negara manakah yang anda ingin pergi dan mengapa? for group discussion, we were told to list out some qualities that a leader should possess and choose a leader that you like and why. mostly we all spoke in bm except for the self-introduction part but if you can request to speak in either bm/english (a girl in my group did that) cos the interviewers weren't very strict.

rating: 5/10 i think i did rather badly, spoke too fast stammered a bit and not very convincing.

advice: well don't end up like me =.= as long as you can remain calm and can think super fast, you are safe. best of luck =)

Course Applied: Science

Date : 6th April 2010

Venue: Kepala Batas , Penang

Experience :

Reached there around 12something but interview started at 345 pm .
I was in panel 3 …. Third group …. So had to wait …. Sigh …..
According to recommers , we had to sign two times .
First signed on the board beside your name
Second signed was at the registration table there.
Registration : Your name will be called . You just signed and bring your file to them.
For those certified copies , please arrange and staple it . Or they’ll have staple ready for you too.
Then just sit and wait for your name to be called another time to get your number.
Once you get your number , have to prepare to go in the waiting place and wait for the previous group to come out before you can go in .By the way , 90 percent of us was chinese . Few malays and almost no indian, i didnt know why.And if i were to say there're 100 interviewees, I can see 90 of them wore baju kurung. Amazed =) of course i mean girls.

And I realized it’s very important to communicate with those who’re same group with you . Time flies when you start talking . And those people were so friendly .
No matter what races you were from , that didn’t matter already at that time .
We discussed a lot of thing. And even to break the trick . Guess what, we actually realized that JPA arranged the date for us according to birthday . Coz 5 of us was all borned in january.
Ok , the worst was this : When we’re ready outside the interview room , that pegawai told us that : You all have to be separated according to course . And according to 5 of us now. It’s 2 science 2 law and 1 engineering. So after we were separated , just left me and another malay girl who were also taking science. 2 more Chinese in . So ended up our group had only 4 people.

Okay , we’re in ( Please wait until the interviewer asked you to sit ).
Interviewer : selamat pagi …… bla bla bla
Anyway : 2 malays 1 Indian for the interviewer
Then we started our intro in BM.
Mine was so….. short
Anyway, i was asked for the country i chose and why.
And they even asked me which university.
Luckily i've got something popped out from my mind
Answer : University of Leeds

Next session : Group Discussion
English : How will you repay the government if you get this scholarship.
Malay : Apakah keistimewaan yang ada dalam diri anda kenapa JPA sends you to oversea dan bukan other interviewee ? Apakah ciri-cirinya ?
( I screwed up BM part coz my bm isn’t good )
Then the interviewers did ask us something like : Do u guys still wanna change course or what . I didn’t know why she asked this .
During the whole ‘group discussion’ , the worst part was this : We did it like individual interview , no discussion at all . Coz we didn’t know each other since those we’re familiar with had been separated into another group. See ….This proves that communication between interviewees before the interview is very important . If not u guys will have zero interaction like what we did . So sad for this . If we were not been separated today, I’m sure the interview process will be very interesting, and of course , wont be so ‘individual’ . And for your information , for all the 4 of us , 2 were for PIDN and 2 were for PILN ( including me )

Of course the last part they’ll ask : Ada apa-apa soalan tak ?
The boy asked : As I know , those who don’t get PILN will automatically been offered a place for PIDN . So how if we applied for PIDN and didn’t manage to secure the scholarship ? The interviewers couldn’t really answer his question because they said they’re not from JPA but they said JPA should have a way for this.

Rating: 8/10

Advices/Additional info :
Try to be calm and don’t be nervous . Everything will be fine . Just don’t worry too much.

All the best to all recommers who hasn’t gone through their interview yet.
Have faith in yourself. You guys can do it for sure !

07-04-2010, 12:48 AM
venue : kepala batas
time : 2pm
date : 6/4/10
course : science local ( major in computer science )

I was the third batch for the interview , so i needed to wait for about 2 hours outside there ( extremely hot over there !) At first i was in the fourth batch , so i tried to make friend with other applicants that i thought we would in the same group , but poorly i was changed to third batch since there was a male applicant who arrived late...argh...When the second batch went in , we had to sit in a roll waiting outside , the applicants in the third group were so serious , no talking and no joking ( making me more anxious :( ) And the officer tried her best to make us talk , but she failed , :P ( what she said was " Kenapa begitu diam , cakaplah " and bla bla bla )

So , when it was our turn , we needed to pin the number to our shirts , queued up and walked in following our numbers....Our interviewers were a malay lady , a chinese man and another lady , perhaps she is a sikh ? So we were given one minute each to introduce ourselves ( In my case , the interviewers din't specify that we need to introduce ourselves using bm , among five of us , if im not mistaken four of us were using english to introduce ouselves , including me xD ) For other group members , they introduced themselves until the interviewer said " ok , thank you " but for me , while i've finished my intro , i still need to say " erm...thats all " T.T is that a bad sign that i was talking too short ?!

Then the malay lady told us we would have two discussions , one in bm while one in bi , each topic will have five minutes for us to discuss....the first topic was in bi [ If you were send abroad , what can you do to hold good name of Malaysia ? ] (i still need to answer that question although what i applied is local science :P , and the applicants seemed to have been mixed up without considering whether they were from the same course or not , there were even accounting , engineering and law in my group , sigh..)and the second one is in bm [ mulai tahun ini , kerajaan telah mengurangkan subjek dalam peperiksaan SPM sehingga sepuluh subjek sahaja , adakah anda setuju ? ] im not quite remember on how she asked , but the main point is there i think :D ... And for the first topic , we dint have enough points for each of us , so i just try to elaborate more from the main point...:( and bad thing to me ,when i first spoke out for introduction , the malay lady told me "can you speak louder , i can't hear you.." oops , sorry , i had to say...and i think im the one with the shortest elaboration each time i spoke , i needed to say " errm..thats all / itu sahaja , unlike others , no question from the interviewers for me when i spoke out my points , no shooting for me ( may be im speaking too less and they found nothing to shoot me? :( ) and worst ,while i spoke as the first one for the second topic and , gosh ! i just too panic and forgot to say out my option ( setuju atau tidak ) and so after my elaboration the interviewer asked me " so you setuju right ? " " yes " " because you dint say your option " " oops, sorry " T.T omg , what was i doing ?!

And so the discussion part had finished , the following questions was [ What course are you choosing ? ] and [ Convince us why should we give you the scholarship ] These two are popular questions for the interview...i suppose..So , just answer according to which language they use to ask you ....

And so the interview ended , before we went out , the malay lady told us that the jpa is the one who will decide who will get the scholarship but not them ....Is that a good thing or bad thing to know ? Still wondering.....=.= at the end , they dint ask us whether have any question to ask , so we just said thank you to them and most of us just went out directly . I was curious why no one shaking their hands like what the senior told us to . So when a boy started to shake their hands , i did it too :D then i went out , closed the door since im the last one to leave ...and so , finally it ended here . Take your file and you can leave now . :D

And my advice is no need to worry too much , of course you will feel panic , unless you are a super self-confident people :P i used to panic before the interview with hands kept shivering , and when i entered the room , the air-con made me more panic , now with legs shivered together with hands , i even need to use my right hand to press on my left hand to prevent the interviewers from seeing im shivering terribly >.< but everything just not as horrible as we thought , i felt more relax after a while , more stable afterwards ( but i still couldn't recall most words in bi and bm T.T talking with er...er...er...) the interviewers may shoot us , but in a kind way , more like joking with a SWEET smile :P anyway, pandai pandai la , don't say too much unnecessary things or nonsense ...And thats all , good luck ^^

I reached there at 7 plus ...(btr be early thn late ya) then, waited n signed my name on the whiteboard where i check which panel i got. (coincidently, i got same panel with my close friend.. ^^) About 8 plus, it started n if you get the ltr batch like me, well...wait patiently. Talk with our group members, get to know each other. When its near, the secretary asked us to giv them the file n thy gave us a a tag when the former batch finished. My heart was beating so fast i can hear the beating myself. Not joking. So, we get our seats n greet them. Firstly, they ask us to introduce ourselves. So I greet them in french and then we talk bout family, coco, the course n which place..(dont scared if they didnt ask you which country, bcoz my friends from othr panels werent asked as well. ) I screw up bcz i talk too fast..=='Next, the topic is long n i forget wht was it...smtg bout kerjasama smth perubatan smth negara. well, i was kinda blur in this topic, i just talk sumthng bout mercy n research. Next, is english topic, bout impact of global warming to health n economy..(?!) okay, juz scribble wtv i think in a minute time. We were mentioning points one by one. At the end, the interviewers ask us whtr we got any questions, so we ask them bout general questions like how many ppl were taken in a year n stuff. In the end, we said thank you n go out to get our files. End. The interviewers are nice. Relax n dun too panic. It will cause you to become blank. Remember to dress appropriately, formal, you dont wanna get kicked out of the room believe me.
Any answer you give make sure got reason n dun say things with no sense. Okay, I did my best and now I pray and hope fr the best. ^^

Good luck for those whom havent go tru this. All the best! You can do it..^^

4. was asked on which country we choose and why(eng)
5. they asked questions related to the courses we that
we choose
6. the JPA person asked, '' beri saya 1 perkataan yang
menggambarkan kebolehan diri anda yang
meyakinkan pihak JPA untuk memberikan biasiswa ini
kepada anda''
7. we asked questions to the interviewer
8. end of the interview

Rating: 6/10, i have my points but i can't properly convey the meanings and i was a bit gagap. haha, the aircond was too strong!

Advice/Additional info: do your homework on researching bout the course you choose. 2 person in my group couldn't answer the question and the interviewer asked them ''what are your preparation during the interview''

don't say anything you're not sure of. i said that australian climate is a bit same with Malaysia but the interviewer then say it's totally different. and they asked bout australian places too. goosh.

today is the last day of the interview at this place.
i don't know bout the other places.

I guess it's much more better than i thought. Well, in my case 6 persons in a group and my group ALL are BOYS except me OMG!!! I didn't get chance to chit chat with them... i mean they seems don't want to talk with me. Okay, the interview...i not sure how long it last. 3 panels - 2 guys and a lady. They are friendly and funny. First, we introduce ourselves - name, family, co-cu activity, course applied and country you prefer to go. This can be done in bahasa or english. I chose english. Then one question in bahasa..can't remember full question but something like this 'Biasiswa adalah hasil duit rakyat, bagaimana anda membayar balik duit mereka?'. Easy right? Anyone can start first. But still....i answered last. All boys dominate it. Next is question in english about 'Home is more important than school in cultivating values. Discuss.' The panel asked me to begin (since i'm the only girl, he said). Then, we got chance to ask question. The end.

Rating: 5/10..the question is so easy but i still think i've done badly in both bahasa and english question session..:cry

Advice: Please check all the things you have to bring because I left my sijil berhenti sekolah at home (luckily the urusetia guy says, it's okay.) And if they asked question and anyone can answer first, grab the chance. Being the last, all my point has been taken. And, don't expect the question could be easy and the panels are all friendly. My friend got question like 'kenapa UNESCO iktiraf tembok besar China'. Quite hard (for me lah). Read newspaper a lot!

Course Applied: Engineering

Venue: Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh

Experience:

Entered MBI, countless papers regarding the interview were sticked to the wall, so don't worry you will not lose your way, any questions can direct to the security guards there.

Up two floors, again followed the indications on the wall, it was very clear. Try to find a board with white papers sticking on it, find your name, sign beside it. Take note on which panel you belong to (e.g panel 1 to 5). Take a seat and wait for the time.

Assistants appeared and called for respective panels. Followed and reached the place for my panel.

Each panel consisted of 25 people, and it was divided into 5 groups. Each group with 5 people. Assistant started calling up the first five candidates (according to the name list previously saw on the board, so one can know which group he/she is in.) They were required to hand in the clear folder containing original certificates as well as the required photocopies, seperately. At the same time, a number tag will be given. Pin it on your attire.

I was in the third group. When it was my turn, the assistant called us up into a room. Where I met 1 indian lady interviewer from a government department which I can't remember (vaguely remember it had something to do with material purchasing), 2 malay male interviewers (one sat in the middle but I can't remember where is he from and another one is from JKR). So altogether 3 interviewers.

Questions asked:
1. The middle malay guy started off with self introduction(in BM), he also explained we only have to mention about our name, course choice and reason, as well as how we foresee ourself in 5-10 years time.

2. The indian lady interviewer required us to answer a question asking the reason why we deserve the scholarship, the strengths in us and how are we going to contribute to the society after graduation. In english.

3. The JKR malay guy asked what we understand about the word "Integrity" and what are the characteristics that build up a professional career. In english too.

4. A few more questions were asked, only short answers were needed, maybe due to the lack of time. They are as follows:
(a) Will you accept to study locally?
(b) Are you willing to accept the offer if you're offered other course.
(c) Are you willing to return to Malaysia to work? (Not sure about if this was
asked, perhaps it was a part in other question.)

No group discussion/current issues.

(1) was answered according to our number tag.
(2) and (3) were open, as long as you're ready to answer.

Rating: 5/10

Advice/Additional info: The questions can be very unexpected, and that might leave your brain all blank and miss the chance to answer first while you go panicking. So all a person can do is just to be as honest as possible, telling what you think deep inside is the easiest, because you simply do not have the time and wittiness to make up a polished answer. Unless you don't mind giving childdish and unrealistic answers like you want to build a factory and compete with france aeroplane industry or you choose australia because of the multicultural environment, yes, they are childdish to me, well, just me. Don't be discouraged if the interviewers seem to have become absent-minded while you are answering, it's once in a lifetime chance, just answer what you want to say.

Experience:
I reach the interview place at about 7.30am. I was in Panel 2, round 2.

We went in the interview room and greeted the panels. There were 3 of them, and all are men! Oh gosh! Am i the only female inside the room?!! Becos my group members are all boys except for me! I sighed inside my heart and began to be nervous.

~ Selamat pagi semua, sila duduk..... ( all the welcoming speech..)
~ Sebelum mulakan soalan saya nak tahu adakah antara kamu sedang belajar di mana-mana institusi sekarang?"
All of us say no and he proceed to ask what we doing now. So one by one we told them. Then proceed..

~ok, so now can u all introduce urself to us? using english and u have 2 minutes time.
They din state any specific area to be included in our intro so u can talk anythings u wan. I think everyone of us cheered in our heart as we can use English! So we started one by one. I talked briefly bout my name, family, prefer course and i did state my achievement in koko. Among 5 of us only me and the 3rd guy talked about our koko . N so the intro section was finished.

Dis question was asked by a chinese panel, sitting on our right. he looked very professional. Really!
~ Well. Can u tell me what is the application of engineering in.. for example.. in KLCC?
This questions is pointed out for the 4 boys who are taking engineering, so i do no have to answer dis question. We do not raise ur hand to answer in the whole section as the panels asked us to answer according to our number. So the 1st boy started, however i thought he was quite nervous, he said something in the beginning but stopped pathway, and kept silent for a while, all the panels are waiting, ( the atmosphere was quite tense guys..) finally he asked the panels for some time to think. Then the other boys take turns to voice out their ideas. Another boy also get stucked in the beginning and the panels skipped him. N it's the 3rd boy turn. He said about electronic enginnering like " KLCC need computer and the pc programmes are so important to facilitate the operation of the office and etc etc.. After all the panels return to the 2 guys. One of them who is taking chemical engineering talked about the materials used in the construction of the building, like cement, need the knowledge of chemical engineering, making the cement stronger and so. But when he finished, the chinese panel asked " So do you think KLCC will collapse when there is earthquake in M'sia?" Oh! when i listen to this i pity the guy who had to answer.. Anyway he reply " I think yes if the earthquake is too strong." The panel cant listen clearly at the first time so the guy repeated. then the chinese panel said " Well.ok" (He looked not so satisfied when he said dis...)

Den it was my turn!!!!!! The chinese panel asked me a question which i did not hav any idea.. sob..
~Well. Biotec.. Can u relate ur course to nuclear technology?"
I was blank for some time when the question was thrown out. I forget what i said (in panic) in the beginning, and i was stucked, the condition was the same as just now one of the boy did. But finally i managed to squeeze out some points like nuclear technology dispose dangerous radioactive waste and create pollution.. Biotech can help in reducing the pollution and lower the harm by creating some environmental chemicals and products etc.. I try to use my full attempt to convey my msg and looked sincerely to the panels eyes!!! N my english get stucked a bit alongway. Finally the panels said "ok, thank you." So i relieved my breath and thought it was really embarassing when everyone waiting for me to talk just now.

~let's talk about Green technology. Relate ur course to this technology, pls. ( The chinese panel again.) N the Malay man beside him asked me to started first.
" Well.. I can use the knowledge in biotec to solve environmental problems like...bla bla bla.. Doing genetic manipulation so that the plants can grow more healthily n resistance to disease... create vaccine to insert in animals to prevent disease like bird flu.. find out chemical to solve the problems of oit spilts on sea...( I dunno whether i had out of topic but i jus manage think about this.) After me the 4 boys' turn. One of the remarkable moment was the chinese panel asked the boy beside me related to the boy's idea, " Do Malaysia able to make television yet?" OOOOO.. The boy answer yes, in a not-sure tone.
" What brand?" The boy get startled for a while and he answer he was not sure..And finally this question ended.............

Last question, in BM, asked by the middle Malay panel.
~Apakah sumbangan yang kamu boleh buat untuk negara kita selepas kamu tamat pengajian dari luar negara? kaitkan dgn course anda ya.. (something like dat..)

Dis time i was the last to talk. The 4 boys before me were trying their best too. And the 3rd boy, i can feel his enthusiasm all along the interview. However, i noticed that the panels are not listening to us concentratedly and they seems feeling boring sometimes when we are talking.. especially when one talked alot.

And so the interview ended..The panels told us dat all of us are excellent. The middle panel also advised us not to be dissapointed when we are not offered for PILN, and we might be offered with PIDN if we din get the luar negara one. N they also said dat about 10000 students are applying for JPA so don be sad if u din get the 1500 places. We thanked them before we left.
P/S: Because the panels are all men, so we do shake hand with them.

The interview was indeed challenging! You have to be alert and quick when the question came to you!

Advice/Additional info:
- Prior preparation is really IMPORTANT!!Especially information about the COURSE u selected. Do some research and do remember some common issues about your course. They will press on your understanding on your selected course mostly.
- Stay calm, even though you screwed up at the beginning, try to modulate ur emotion and start again. The panels' nodding and their agreeing eyesight will brush up your confidence later.
- Don't waste your chance during the self introduction. Knowing that self-intro is a must in the interview, why not be fully prepared before it? Practice and practice(in BI and BM version) so dat u can present it fluently when it is your turn. If you do not perform so well in the discussion part, the intro section still can help. Practice makes perfect!
-And I think sitting posture is very important. You are facing the panels, in a row with your friends, all of you are sitting. You have no tables but the panels have tables.
So do not slouch, sit straight and show your "smartness"~~

* Skip all the waiting part (you wont want to know, it was 5hours long :notrust I was in the last batch before their lunch.)

There were 6 in my group including myself, 3 boys 3 girls, 2 biotech 1 german engineering 3 engineering. Our names were called and we were given a number tag each . I got number 1. We then entered the room and greeted them. There were 3 interviewers, 1 Malay lady, 1 Malay man and an Indian lady. After we were allowed to sit, the Malay lady gave the 'welcoming speech' and we started our self introduction in BM. The introductions were brief as they mentioned clearly what they want (name, previous school, family background, course chosen and preferred country). They did ask certain questions based on our introduction.
Mine was-
Interviewer: Why do you want to study in US?
Me: I did some research about this course and found that US is the most advanced country in this field and most of the top biotech universities are located in US.
Interviewer: So which university offers the best biotech course?
Me: Harvard University.
Interviewer: Wow, so you want to study in Harvard.
Me: Well... (I wasnt able to continue my words because another lady continued with the second interviewee :()

They also asked:
1. What is your second choice if we cannot give you the course you applied for?
2. What is the alternative path you've planned if you failed to secure this scholarship?

Then we proceeded to the first question about how to menguruskan sampah. I think I screwed this part :cry There wasn't any time given for us to think. Since I was the first one, I was asked to answer first. I froze for one second, then I asked for permission to speak in English and my request was granted. I wanted to talk about the incinerator but I didn't know what is it called!
Me: Malaysia should prepare a... a... a... a place (-.- I was trying to say chamber but it didnt appear in my mind that time :cry) specially to burn the rubbish in which the gas produced should be treated and filtered before it is released into the atmosphere.
Interviewer: Ohh, you mean incinerator! Pusat pembakaran sampah!
Me: Ahhh yes.
Interviewer: So do you know any country which uses this method?
Me: Sorry I'm not sure about that.
Interviewer: Where did you get the idea of incinerator?
Me: I remember reading about it but I forgot which country is practising it.
Interviewer: Ohh ok, thank you.
[I screwed this part real bad I think :( Maybe because it was the first question and I was too nervous.]

Next question:
Nowadays internet social networks like Facebook and MySpace are often used by politicians, GMO and organisations to keep in touch with the citizens. As a citizen, do you think it helps? (Cant remember the exact questions but its something like that) You're given 30seconds to think.
I was the second to answer. I said yes, because it is the fastest and easiest way for the citizens to express their view and suggestions blabla, then said I agree with what the first interviewee said, that is we can keep ourselves updated with the organisation's latest activity blablabla so they know what we want and we know what they are doing blabla.

Third ques (asked by the Malay lady):
H1N1 and denggi are now the two most threatening diseases in our country. As you are planning to study overseas, have you taken the H1N1 vaccine?

All of us said no, and she asked WHY?
Again I was the first to answer, so I replied honestly: Actually my mum did call Selayang hospital to ask about the vaccine. However, she was told that it is not available. (No joke, it was only few days ago.) She didn't seem to quite believe me, so she asked me again, which hospital? Oh, Selayang Hospital. Ok I will call them later and ask about this. :huh
Me: Ok..

After asking everyone, she said: FYI H1N1 vaccine is now provided for free in all government hospitals and clinics. Then she told us that for all the suggestions we gave on what the government can do, the government is actually trying to educate the public now.

And that's the endddd! PHEW. The interviewers were actually kind I would say. There was no Q&A session unfortunately. I actually prepared some questions to ask :(

Rating: I dont know :( Guess it isnt well.

Advice/Additional info: Like what all the other Recomers said, be confident while you speak :)

I'm glad that its over, wooo hoooo! I've tried my best and now I shall just pray that I will get it. Good luck all!

~one of the interviewer said that he is from the same school with me, later said he
went to the same uni my brother is studying now, then he asked why am I keep
following him and later he said maybe I will be sitting in his place in the future..
- No group discussion, everyone said their own opinion
- Questions : 1) will you accept other course? (in Bm)
2) why do you want your course?
3) do you think pharmacist should be allowed to prescribe medicine?
(yes or no and why, in 1 sentence)
- it lasted for 30 minutes only
Actually, I am very happy with my own performance, never thought I will be so confident..haha

Venue: Putrajaya

Experience:
3 interviewer: 1 malay who spoke the whole time, 1 chinese man and 1 chinese woman; both of them didnt speak at all.
Group: all chinese, 3 guys and 2 girls. 3 engineering 1 law and me (accountancy)
We went in at around 9.10. The malay dude said we gotta finish at 9.30 for other to come in also. finish around 9.40

I'm number 5 but when we talk it wasn't in order. They just say anyone can start.

Intro(He spoke to us in eng, so i spoke in eng): Name, school, parents, what and why you want that course. which and why about the country you chose. I said UK because i wanna go to LSE! We weren't ask about co-cu

Group discussion: Global warming, do you agree that technology cause it.
We discuss in english. Present once in BI and once in BM

Finally, they asked what preparatory course we are doing now. Shake hands take back file and then home.
(okay i'm going to skip my experience because i feel additional info and tips are more improtant)

Add info/ advice(plz read this)

The reason I feel this section is more important because the way they conduct the interviews are usually very different person to person.
(whatevery i read, 1malaysia etc. wasnt asked) So high chance all the experience u read here isn't going to happen.

As they were in a little hurry, they didn't want to hear much. So my tip is if the interviewer at the beginning already say that 'we gotta hurry', pandai-pandai lar. Tell them the needed info only (info that they asked). There were some instance that the interviewer started nodding his head, one girl still didn't understand until he said okay that enough.

During intro plzplzplz don't say anything bad about yourself. Hey, it happened okay? The interviewer asked one girl why you want to go to
Korea for engineering and not germany.. She said 'i like korea blablabla AND also my SPM results aren't very good (=.=). The interviewer laugh(hmm not reli d laughing funny) and say 'kita nak pelajar yg keputusan bagus'. the girl was kinda stuck and just said 'NO'.
And also be sure of your course. Such as.. when they say this course got a lot of ppl edi(they didnt ask whether you want to change or not), this guy said *like no confident edi* boleh tukar jugak, tapi tak tau lar, hmm tak confirm. Say things like... banyak orang tapi masa depan, I lah yang terbaik xD

And of cz talk. When they say do the group discussion now, call all your members to sit closer, be the leader. Then start talking. BE THE FIRST. I got the ball rolling by analysing and then saying my points with my members. During presentation, say the points you have just discuss.

When you talk, look them in the eyes. And i said them, so dont just look that the person who asked you the question but all of them. Use a little hand gesture so convery the msg even further. Sit up straight, don't slouch. Speak clearly. And slowly if you aren't fluent in BM or BI. Smile. If you cant find the correct(cz not good in BM/BI) don't break down and get nervous. I once couldn't find it and just beam at them xD(finally I found it also lar)

I believe the reason they conduct this interview is to judge how well you speak and confidence. Not no much about the points you give during your discussion or your ko-ku(so i advice don't talk to much, just moderately)This is because I don't see them taking ANY notes when we presented. (they only take notes on course and country)

So talking is very important but don't over do it. Be nice to your members, if they haven't give any ideas during discussion, ask them. BE A LEADER.

Be confident. Leave an impression. If they call you by you name to ask a question, thats good (I got that xDD) normally they will call you by your number.

Be the first and a leader because the others will tend to follow you. This will make you look better. xD Just follow everything what I just said and other advices given by other recommers(read more of advice and not so much of experience) and I know you will shine.

Finally, GOODLUCK.

p.s. anything you wanna ask, u can msg me.Also, the interview was very in a relax mood, although some things I said here didn't indicate that. But really, the interviewer were nice people.

Nope, there were no professional accountant interviewer.. Okay i'm not sure but looking at the situation, I don't think so. Only medicine and pharmacy course will have a professional person.
Yes, they didn't ask much about my course(only why) but during the group discussion, d dude said(after my turn) try to relate how to solve global warming with your course. Before he said that, I said human shud have self-awarenes.. How lar to relate accounts to temperature? xD

Course applied: Law

Was supposed to be in the 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. slot (second group), but because two people from the first group were absent, I was shifted up to the 2 p.m.- 3 p.m. slot instead, so be early!

My group consisted of one Malay boy (Architecture), one Chinese Boy (Accountancy), two Chinese girls including me (Accountancy and Law) and one Malay girl (Engineering).

Our panel consisted of two people - one Malay man that works at UIA, and one Indian lady that works for the government.

The panel was very, very friendly. Asked us whether we ate breakfast, how we slept last night... and then told us that only our introduction will be in BM, and the rest of the interview will be conducted in English. We were given 2 minutes each to introduce ourselves.

After introductions, they questioned us one by one, according to our number. General things about the course we applied for, like why we applied for it and our capabilities in the related field. For example, the boy taking Architecture was asked 'Which party is to be held responsible should a building collapse?'.

During my turn, the Malay man asked me what 'colour' lawyers were in the yin-and-yang symbol. I was thinking "...whaaaaaat?" And he went on to say that doctors are 'white' and lawyers are 'black' because they were always fighting each other. I went on to say that we should all co-operate and work together in order to get things done smoothly and that yin wouldn't exist without yang. He laughed and said that it was a good answer, as he was only trying to provoke me by saying that - so watch out!

Then we had our group discussion - we had only one. The title was 'Technological advances and inventions have a great impact in the world. Choose one example and discuss its impact.' We pulled our chairs in a semicircle and allocated one 'technology' for each person - the internet, handphones, computers/PDAs, transportation/cars, and nuclear power. We gave both positive and negative impacts.

In between, they asked us random little questions - "Who is our Deputy PM?" "Who is our Finance Minister?" "What is the voting age?" "What is the age of consent?" They also asked us to name one Minister of some Jabatan and none of us knew... and everyone just started laughing :))

Last question, they gave us each 2 minutes to tell them why we should get the scholarship.

Question time. I asked them how much weightage is given to the online 'psychology' test (eh, that was the only thing I could think of!) They weren't sure. Another asked when the results will be out, and they said around end of April/May (on the registration board I think they mentioned 3rd May?) Another question was whether we would be offered a course other than the one we applied for, and the answer is no.

Yeeeah, I think that's about it :) It was quite fun, to be honest. Lots of laughing.

Smile and greet the interviewers when you enter. Sit according to your number.

The interviewers had a briefing with us. He said only 1500 will be chosen among 10000 candidates. The result depends on academic, co-curriculum, family background, interview and also the course you choose. He added that nobody wants to study veterinary science.

It started with self introduction (in English). Talk about your name, school, family background, co-curriculum. Why do you choose your course? He mentioned to talk in English so please don't talk in Malay. A guy started with Malay and the interviewers have to repeat "In English please". Don't be nervous. Just give a brief intro.

Our topic is "Relate green technology to your career" (in English). I had the points but not well organized. :( You really need to do some research for this part. Even if you said don't know, you still have to answer it. They never give another question, but they gave another chance for you to think deeply.

The last topic (in BM) "Apakah kelebihan anda? Mengapakah JPA harus beri biasiswa kepada anda?". Talk about your qualities that make you outstanding among the rest. Don't talk for too long, they will cut halfway.

At last, thank everyone of them and leave the room.

Rating: 7/10

Advice/Additional info: Prepare for your course and career (what is your responsibility? how long do you need to finish the course? about professional qualification for career). And some info about environmental issues. Organize your points well. Don't be panic. Everything counts from the moment you enter the room. Be confident!

An advice for girls: Baju kurung is the best. If you want to wear formal, tuck in your shirt and make sure your skirt is after your knee level. Don't wear mini skirt! And tie your hair nicely, don't leave your hair (for long hair). Wear shoes that cover your toes.

All the best to you! :)

There's 25 ppl in each panel and I'm the 6th interviewee. When we signed for our attendance, the 4th girl haven't came. So I was called to join the 1st group to get in the interview room. When we were called, we submitted our photocopies of document they want.
The other 4 ppl in my group were a chinese boy who's applying for engineering and he wanna do civil engineering, a malay girl and a chinese girl who chose accountancy, and a chinese girl who chose law.
I gt no.5 tag from the clerk outside before I get in the interview room.
So I was the last one to do my intro.
Our panels included a malay lady, an indian lady and a malay man.
I think the malay lady was the ketua as she spoke the most. She mentioned what they want for our intro like ur name, school u've studied previously, ur family status(family members, parents' job), and what course you've applied.
Then the 1st question was done in BM. If I'm not mistaken, the questions were as below:
1. Kenapa kamu semua pilih untuk mengambil kursus yang kamu mahu di negara yang kamu pilih?

2. Why u wanna do this course in German since there's courses like that in local universities? ( This question was asked by the malay guy interviewer to me, I said I wanna do AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING)

3. Since we pay a lot money for you guys to study at overseas if you guys got this scholarship, and everyone will face problems when they're alone overseas like home-sickness, cannot perform well in study and etc. So what will you guys do to overcome these problems??

4. Can u state any qualities that a profession should have in them?

5. This question was threw out to me and the other guy who's applying for engineering course. "As a future engineer, tell me any comment that you have about anything in Petaling Street." I din take initiative to speak 1st because I have no idea what they want! The guy in my group said:"Actually I didn't go to Petaling Street that often, so..." "Alright, then we talk about the Sultan Abdul Samad building." "Emm..its design was like a mosque......." (I can't remember what he said but I just can remember this sentence. We're stunned at 1st when the panels threw this question.=.=)
Then the malay lady looked at me, I started to speak. I said: "its a symbol of Malaysia." "So, anything else about the building?" "Emm..Actually I don't have any other comments or ideas about the building." The Malay lady just said "Oh, ok~" Then I saw the Indian lady beside her was smiling like she's going to burst in a laugh, then I just HOHOHO~:notrust:notrust (I'm gonna ruin this interview!!:laugh:laugh)

6. So wat will you do with ur profession in the future to reduce the global warming? (This question is directed to all of us.)

Rating: Duno how to rate it..Just dun rate it! haha

Advice/Additional info: For the questions specialised for different course, I can remember a bit, just for reference laa k?
For LAW: a)Tell me about the MALAYSIAN LEGAL SYSTEM.
b)What is the function of SYARIAH COURT?
For accountancy: What is the difference between the DEB and MEB. DEB was the DASAR EKONOMI BARU, MEB was xxxxxxx.( I forgot ad...XDXD...that new plan that our PM just announced not long ago which functioned to increase our ppl's income per kapita from USD7000 to USD15000.)
After the accountancy applicants said their comments, the panels turned to us and asked us if we got any comment to speak out. The other 2 candidates spoke out their ideas. And when I wanna said mine, the panel changed questions ad. :cry:cry

So, try to take initiatives if you really have good ideas about what the panel asked. But answer oni if they direct the question to everyone. And the to do thing is, just straight to the point and add oni some appropriate elaborations. They would like to hear a brief and strong point rather than a long but weak point even you can speak fluently and confidently.

That's all I can share, if you guys have any questions wanna ask me, can private message me, as there may some incomplete part in my recalling now. I'm kinda blur now. I woke up at 5am, and haven't rest till now.:cry:cry

Good luck to every recommers who're having their interview on 2moro and Friday!

Course applied : Science (mathematics)

Venue : UITM Larkin

Date : 07 April 2010

Experience :

My group consist of
1 female chinese ; science locally
2 male chinese ; tourism
3 me ; science
4 male malay ; engineering (i can't remember well)
5 male malay ; diploma tech in japan

The interviewers (Panel 1)
1 an indian officer in Kementerian
2 a malay doctor
3 a malay jpa officer

introduction in BM ( name , school , family background ) they will ask you more if they want to know more and sometimes they disrupt our intro then we continued back )

1st : why you deserved this scholarship ? (something like this , i can't remember well) we should answered this according to our numbers.
then they shot us here . they shot me deeply about the course until they asked , what are the things that you are going to study in calculus ? what is the uses of calculus ?
haha i didn't make a research about this so i can't answer this question . i said , i don't know about this but if i've been given a time , i would do some research on this matter . (a lil bit disappointed) :(

2nd : they asked one by one . the doctor called my name and asked me , apa pendapat awak mengenai kahwin sambil belajar ? then i gave my opinion . then he asked , so how about you ? then i answered bla bla bla , then they said , waaah macaam da rancaang je semua ni haha then all of us were laughing aduui :DD
( they asked others about others questions but im really sorry because i can't remember, aduuh looks like i'm facing short-term memory syndrom eghh )

(something like this lah hehe)
these were open questions so that everybody can answer it but everyone must have 1 point for it . but i think they didn't care much as long as you can voice out your opinion and speak confidently (:

5th : ok , 'they called my name' (again me haisyh) jika kami memberi awak peluang untuk ke luar negara dan terdapat lagi satu kerusi kosong untuk tempat tersebut , siapakah antara jejaka2 ini yang akan awak pilih untuk bersama-sama dengan awaak ?
ha ? i was so like ? ? peelik3 . then i said , satu keputusan yg sukar untuk dilakukan tapi saya tak sampai haati haha aduuuhh :D kalau boleh saya mahu semua kerana semua berkebolehan
then they said , awak kena pilih seoraang jee . the the jpa officer said , pilihlah yg hensem tuu haha
seriously we laughed a lot in here :D

6th : questions that we want to ask them
but then none of us were asking , as i think the interviewers have said everything during the intro . then all the questions that i've been prepared just go like that huhu

overall , they were very kind , sporting , making jokes here and there . and it was not as i thought (:

The whole interview was 80% BM, 20% English for my group.

Advice / Additional info :
The questions that they asked were mainly about our
career . and they asked us very deeply . so please please and please prepare about the course that you have applied very well and you have determined where you exactly want to further your study . you should impress them . speak confidently (:

good luck for the rest ! i hope this can help you (:

course : Pharmacy
5 people in a group, arranged according to your birth date.Lucky for me, i got the number 1.
1.Start with self intro.Your name, previous school, family background and what course you chose.(Choose what language you prefer)

2.Why you chose the course, which country you prefer to further your study?(English)

3.How do you prepare yourself physically and emotionally to go abroad? Can you stand from living independent at overseas?(Malay)

4.Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of 1 Malaysia Clinic.(English)The time allocated is 5 minutes for the whole group,if you have opinion ,just raise your hand and answer it.Try not to talk too long so others can talk bout their thoughts too.

Advice:Be confident,do not try to say something that you are not sure bout the facts.Do not stop too long to think and don't say em....... while you are thinking.Stick to your first statement, don't change your statement every single time they ask you why.
For example:Which country you choose?
Australia.:)
Why?:oh
because the country advance technology.:)
But Russia got good lecturers.:P
Actually i can accept Russia too.:))
Huh?didn't you just say Australia?:amazed
It shows that you are not a good decision maker.
Conclusion:Don't worry too much, the interviewers are very friendly.Make sure you eat and sleep enough.
Good luck to all.^^

Course Applied: Science

Venue: Putrajaya

Experience:

A brief account here.

Our intro were made in bm. The first ques was in english, asking us to give our opinion on serving the nation. Basically, you can talk on anything bout it. Second ques was asked in bm, a very WEIRD ques we got though. It sounded sth like, while studying abroad, you attended a party, and someone happened to give you a condom, what would your reaction be? and why do you think they hand out condoms? Sth to ponder on, eh? Haha... i was kinda shocked upon hearing that.

Anyway, in between they will ask you ques, which i think, is to substantiate statements you've made. And there weren't any group discussion for my group, we were merely asked to give our opinion.

Rating: 7/10

Additional info: I have a feeling the interviewers are looking for maturity of thoughts and the way you carry yourself. Just my 2 cents though.

Course Applied: Engineering in France

Venue: Ketereh, Kelantan

Experience:
Wore a formal attire. It was a must. Tie, long sleeve, slack and leather shoe. I was with panel three, with another 4 peeps. Two of em is my schoolmate(chinese) and another two(malay) from other schools. Entering the interview room, you probably would feel like the heart bumping more faster. After greeting em, just wait their order to ask us to sit. (Never sit down w/o their order!) Well, the interview session, just like the others, seperated into 2 parts.

#1:Introduction
For my group, the introduction didnt fixed to be done in any language. So, my friend n i did it in English and the malay guys did it in BM. The interviewer let us to talk about anything we wanted to. Due to my nervousness, i just briefly managed to talk about my name, my family and my achievement in school. I forgot to mention about what course I'm applying and where the course will be. (It's a NO-NO!!) My verdict, instead of talking about your family or something useless, I would recommend those peeps to talk about ur personality. I meant ur strength. This is another way to impress the interviewers.

#2:Group Discussion
The group discussion given for my group was seperated into 2 parts, English and BM. For the English part, the panel viewed a book of his which consists of billions of group discussion's question. So, I think there's no point on preparing for the group discussion by asking others. This is because the question's range is way too big that hardly to be predicted. Also, u can impress the interviewers by asking em to give permission yall to sit in a circle for the discussion. (!!)

For the English part, my group was given the topic "handphones". We were given sometime to discuss and to my surprise, the interviewee beside me spoke up right after 20sec without any discussion. Yes, spoke up at the first place can impress the interviewer, but u didn't discuss with other interviewees. So, please, even u don't want to discuss with your new friends, just act like u discuss with em. The interviewers were looking at u all the time.

For the BM part, we were asked about 'ciri kepimpinan, macamana memupukkan ciri tersebut'. In this case, please, for those who will be going to speak up first, think about others. Others might not ready yet. It's not like u speak first, the higher mark u get. Lastly, please train to speak BM before u go for the interview. I totally screwed up with BM-speaking.

Overall :
When you're done with the group discussion, the interviewers will let yall to ask some questions. Don't simply ask any question to show ur ignorance. Since many ppl were spreading the new of 'only 1.5k of applicants will get the scholarship', then there is no point on asking the interviewers again. This is just to show ur laziness to do research. Also, I was wondering the whole interviewing session of mine is nth to do with engineering (and i also didnt mention what course i'm apply -___-). This is the lucky part and also unlucky part. I'm really lucky that the question is nth to do with engineering, just some general knowledge. But, its really unlucky that none of the interviewers know about what course i'm applying, tis let me feel unsecure. To my knowledge, my fren who is also applying for the engineering course, he was asked about the petrol, 95 and 97, which one better? They also talked about subsidi petrol. Hard right? HAHA

Rating: 6/10 (I screwed up all my BM part)

Additional info:
-Just relax, the group discussion questions are very random (no point on asking anymore)
-Always smile
-Be a good listener by looking at ur fellow interviewees when they are talking
-Sit straight and never leap to back of the chair.
-Take a deep breath if u are really nervous, it works
-Take the initiative to speak/greet first
-BRUSH UP UR BM!!!

Tht's all from me. Good luck peeps!!

Course applied:Engineering

Venue:Larkin,Jb.

I was in the first panel and first group. There were 5 of us,4(including me,applied for engineering and one accounting).

Introduction:It was fully in BM.

Every questions that were asked to us related to the course that we've applied.

1.State one well-known achievement in the field of engineering and why.
2.state the concept of physics in it.
3.State one discipline of engineering that is needed more in our country and why.(choose the discipline that you're intending to do.I chose chemical engineering and in my points I included some of the environmental issues)
4.Role play.. between 4 engineers and one accountant.
5.Why do you deserve this scholarship? (Everyone was asked this question except me..when it came to me,the interviewer suddenly asked the question below..
6.Penggabungan Ict dalam kejuruteraan.(Only for me,I did not know why.):oh(Still managed to give points + craps.)And he didn give up,from the points I had given,he asked more and more question..
7.Which county would you like to go and why.(For this part, you need to search more and more about the country that you choose.)
questions that were shot to us.. 'Capital of Aus..which Uni..what is the speciality of Aus's currency..what is Aus's prime minister's name? How long does it take to fly to aus? )

Our session prolonged about one hour +.Maybe it's because we were the first and the interviewers were so 'fresh' to shoot us with questions. The interviewers were quite friendly. If you are applying for German Engineering and so on,dont be surprised if they asked you to speak one or two words in German. One of my team mate was asked this.

Advice:Expect the unexpected.
Always wear a smile.
Dont worry much.

Rating:.....No idea :notrust

Thats all.Good luck everyone!:))

Course Applied: France Engineering

Venue: Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh

Time: 2p.m.

Experience: My group consist of 5 person: 2 boys, 3 girls. 1 malay girl and the rest were chinese. I'm the fifth person and also the last person of the batch. 3 of them applied engineering (including me), one applied social science and another applied economy.

Introduction in BM. We talked about our personal particulars, family background, coco achievements, course applied and why you chose that course. When answering the questions, please be careful with your words because they will shoot you back with your answers. I think i did well in this part until the end part. They asked me to name 3 buildings in France and i screwed that up because i don't know the buildings at France!! I knew eiffel tower but was too nervous to think of it!! They also ask me to say some basic French. I told them words like bonjour and mercy. Then one of the interviewers asked me what is air in french and i cannot answer that as well!! :( Also, they provoked me by saying I chose France because the girls there are hot. I screwed this up by saying if I want to see hot girls, the Japanese girls are hotter and the interviewers laughed about it. :cry Then they ask me if want to change to japan engineering and i said i will stick to France. >.<

Discussion done partly in english and partly in bm.

1. Discuss about the quality of water in Malaysia.
It was okay with me until the interviewer start to shoot questions at us. The discussion was done in english. Then, the questioning part starts with bm. Ask our opinion on the water quality was not so good when government was in charge of it but the quality becomes better when NGO took over, which one is better, NGO or government and how do we save water. I was the last one to say out how to save water and all my ideas was said by the other four interviewees, leaving myself elaborating their ideas. So, be sure to answer it first!!

Individual part they asked us to nominate a candidate in the room if only one of us can be chosen to go overseas. I chose a girl and gave my reasons but one of the interviewers said i had a crush on her because I chose her, which is of course not true. :notrust I think I should have chosen myself as the one but not others. There was one boy with me that chose himself and the interviewers even joked "now you see the true face of your friends" and we all laughed about it. Some questions regarding New Economic Model, how it helped to bring our economy back to normal level and role of economist in it was asked as I chose the girl that want to study economy.

Lastly, they asked us if we got anything to ask and we didn't ask any questions. Then the interview session ended. The whole session took about one hour.

All in all, the interviewers was quite nice (not to me) as they always teased me using the girl issue. :notrust

Rating: 6/10 (hopefully I'm a good entertainment for them :notrust:cry)

Advices:
1. Never say Japanese girls are hotter. I learned it the hard way. :cry
2. Sell yourself if they ask you to nominate a candidate. Show your confidence and mention your strength which makes you special enough to be the one.
3. Drink water before going in. It might be a long interview inside there.
4. Eat until you are very full and make sure you get enough sleep the night before. I was so hungry after the interview even when I ate my lunch before going for the interview.
5. Answer the questions first if you know the answer. Don't let go of your chance to outshine others.

Thats all! Good luck to you guys and gals for your interview. :wink

Here are some favourite questions asked by the interviewers around the nation in JPA interview 2010:

3) What make you special that deserve this scholarship?
4) Why choose to study overseas, but not local?
5) Would you be willing to accept the scholarship, but for local?
6) Local universities that offer your course applied.
7) Scholarships are funded by tax payers' money. How do you wanna repay them upon graduation?
8) What is your strengths and weaknesses?
9) Global warming
10) Name of Deputy Prime Minister
11) Name of Finance Minister(accounting) / Head of Judges(law)
12) Private Insurance
13) Wawasan 2020
14) 1 Malaysia concept
15) Quality of Water in Malaysia
16) How to preserve and conserve environment?
17) H1N1
18) 1 Malaysia Clinic
19) New Economics Model

Turkey

I'm actually quite lazy to type out my experience, but I've learned a lot from Recom, so I should repay back and hope future JPA applicants will learn something from here too. :)

Place: Putrajaya
Course: Accountancy

1) Introduction about yourself:
The interviewers are a little different than others that I've read in this thread. They don't want to hear about our co-curricular achievements and academic results. I think they have printed out our online application, which they kept referring to. We are required to state our course and country, reason, and tell them why we deserve this scholarship. The criteria that they are looking at are originality, communication skills, confidence, and potential. 1 of the interviewer even said, "You can even say, I deserve this scholarship because I deserve it la! This is what we call originality."

2. BM question:
Apakah yang kamu telah buat sepanjang masa 3 bulan sementara menunggu keputusan SPM?

3. Second option:
They ask us if we have any second option if we don't get PILN. Some said they only aim for PILN, while some said they can accept PIDN offer too. This is really important, in my opinion, because they will jot down this and give it to JPA to refer. There's no good or bad answer for this, I think, just say what you really want.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all for my interview. There's less questions for my group, and not even 1 question about our course. So, I think it really depends on who your interviewer is. Everyone has his/her different ways to evaluate people.
My interviewers are quite special as they don't like the usual, common sense, facts-like answers. They want answers which are out of the box, answers which reflect your personality.

REMINDER: Don't ever laugh at other candidate's mistakes, even if all the interviewers are laughing and you feel like it's a friendly atmosphere. You can smile, but I think it's bad to laugh. I am regretting now that I laughed at someone. Sorry... She must have feel really bad...

Venue: Kepala Batas

Experience

Three words to describe it. 'I did badly :cry' I left home with my father at 6.39 a.m as I'm from the island. I reached there at 8.15 a.m. We were lost actually. (It was quite surprising as my father has been there before... well, no comments..:notrust) Then went to check my name on the board. There it was, panel 3 at 11 o' clock. Then, I went to the counter (a table actually) to report to them when I saw my friend. Yippie! I got a friend! Then I waited with her and another two girls. Our names were called and we were not in the same slot. My friend went earlier than me and i was right after her with my chinese friends:)). Then I waited.......... till 10 o' clock. OMG! Time to go in. Oh, I forgot to mention. I got no.4 anyway. There were 6 of us, two engineering (including me), 2 law, 1 accountancy, 1 business. We went in, and greeted the panels. We took our sits before the lady in the middle started introducing her and the panels. Then, she explained about the interview (intro in bm, 'group discussion' in bi, general questions in bm/bi). Then, its time for introduction. We have to mention about ourselves, family background, cocurriculum activities, course selected and why, preferred country and finally working experience. Well, i did ok but i missed one of my major cocurriculum activities and volunteering job during the holidays!:cry Then comes the second part where we have to express our opinion on building one-stop centre for abandoned babies in english. I struggled and stuttered through this section (all because of i forgot that one word, so I panicked.:omg ) By the way, we were not allowed to agree with or condemn another person's opinion. Lastly, the third section!:amuse Two questions were asked, 1. Are you strong with your stand to study the course? (It's just a yes/no question, and all said yes) 2. Why do you deserve to get the scholarship? All but one replied in English (including me). I did fine with this part, although my answer was the shortest.... Then, they asked whether got any questions from us, but none asked anything. So, all said thanks and went out. Well, that's all lorr.....Then i went back home...

Rating: ?/10 (I know I did badly)

Advice/Additional info
1. Think quick. For us, they gave time to think, however i think that it is vital to think quickly.

2. Think differently. Unique answer with personal touch always draws attention.

3. Don't forget to give back the tag and take back your files. I almost successfully have forgotten that.

4. About the attire, they don't really care much as long as it's formal and nice to see.

5. Relax. Don't be a tention party like me:cry!

To those who are going for the interview tomorrow, good luck lorr....:wink

First, we were asked to introduce ourselves in English. They did not give us any time limit and we are free to talk anything. Instead, they insisted on telling ur koko achievements and they write down as well. For example, if you say u play sports. They will ask wat sports and write it down as well. I do think that it is important to tell them ur koko achievements as they wrote down ours.

Question: Bagaimanakah anda boleh menterjermahkan konsep 1Malaysia dalam profesion anda. (in BM)

Okay I felt that this question is of coz less about facts which is entirely good but it's bad for those who are taking course like Accountancy. One of us applied Accountancy and then I think he's the one who can give the least point. Nevertheless, I salute him for trying to give his best to speak out his points and try to get involve in the conversation.
Also, I felt that some of us actually gets out of topic. They mentioned about some of nilai that we can find in moral as a way to translate 1Malaysia based on our profession. For eg, ( Not what he said) we should practise harmony among each other. So irrelevant but none of us actually stop him and say he's out of topic. Also, I realised only two of us( including me) actually understand the topic and give examples that how we can contribute. The rest like pour out their Moral nilai. For the one who applied for accountacy, he did like that and I salute him for speaking out and try to get involve. I can say that he can almost say about nothing. I myself suggested an idea that I think engineers can work on and I think it's pretty safe.
Then they asked us to present the idea to them individually. I made a mistake there. So, I think i might over-dominate the whole interview. So be careful as not to speak all the points altho you are the first to speak. In the group discussion where you are supposed to present to them, the points are from each and every person. Please don't copy and paste others' idea and elaborate it. That's the mistake I did. I quote the idea from that person by saying he said this and that. But I just realised afterward that I might have stole their points. This is something that is reached and agreed mutually. Strangely, despite those ppl who pour out their ideas using nilai-nilai only, out of 3 only 1 person who actually repeated their nilai. The rest talked about something more relevant in individual. But since I did not touch bout nilai as I myself do not think that these nilai are really answering the question, I am quite shocked as I left those points that they have mentioned for themselves to elaborate but they did not elaborate on it. Only one did.
So, do not get out of topic. If any of my group mate see this, this is my personal view and you might have your own reason to justify bout it, u can tell me. I personally did not do that in group bcz at least you all are trying to say something. I understand that and it's not my job to tell you what is right and wrong. I just do hope to know why nilai nilai are relevant to 1Malaysia based on ur profession

They even asked " What do you understand about 1Malaysia". I did badly in this coz i dun rly know wat's that.

They asked who are undergoing foundation at any place. I told them I did but none of us told. Only me. Guess it's not a good thing to tell them you did. How does that affect at all right? I mean they wun even know if we are really in any course. They offer but if u duwan, u reject. Since u told them you are inside a program, might affect a bit. I dont know bout this

Seeing us talking bout 1Malaysia, one of them finally asked Siapakah pemenang pertandingan lagu 1Malaysia? None of us know.

My advice:

Going for the interview, don't expect to be perfect. I think most of us actually was being shot. Even mine, I did well in the whole interview( I think) but at last, one of them asked that question and we have to look down and felling ashamed of ourselves. So, do not be sad if you are being shot and can't answer. Everyone get shot in there and almost a lot of ppl cannot answer 1 or 2 questions. So dun feel bad if u can't answer. Everyone will get shot at least once.

Greet the interviewers nicely and SMILE. Wait they ask you to sit and THANK YOU.
Well, my interview session was separated into 3 parts.

1:Introduction
For my group, the introduction must be done in BM. The interviewer let us to talk about anything we wanted to. So, talk about name, family background and co-curricular achievement in school, what course you want to apply and which country. You must know the reasons on why you choose that country.

#2: Question: Do you know what is the meaning of alternative energy? What kind of energy is alternative energy? Why we want to practise alternative energy? What is the advantage of alternative energy? (In BI)
The interviewers gave us 2 minutes to think and arrange our points. Then, they asked us who will be the volunteer to talk first.

#3:
Question: Do you prefer or regret the course that you choose ?(In BI)
All of us said No regret except a guy said he wants to do engineering instead of science.
Question: Why you do think you deserve this JPA scholarship? (In BI)

On the same day, one of my friends from other panel was asked about 1 Malaysia Concept and do you think SPM is easy or hard?
And my friend, who applied medicine, was asked “How would you make hospital better and why? Apakah punca-punca remaja melibatkan aktiviti-aktiviti yang tidak faedah dan langkah-langkah pencegahannya.

Panel: 3

Group: My group was a lil bit weird, there were 4 students in a group, 3 girls and 1 boy. 3 girls are chinese and the only boy is malay. Weird is it? 1 social science, that’s me, 2 accountancy and 1 engineering.

Time taken: around 40-45 mins

#1 Self introduction:
Introduced ourself in BM! oh my god, my BM sucks to the max. Can’t even speak proper BM. I had mixed a lot of English in the introduction, i know it’s a big big big mistake to do so, but what to do, i really don’t know how to speak proper BM. And i was super panic cause im the first one! Okay, back to the point, we can talk whatever we wants, talk about our family background, talk about co-cu activities, why choose this course? which country u want to go? and why?

#2 Discussion:
In english, luckily! so the question was: patriotism levels among youth in the country have declined, state your point of view. We were given 2 mins to jot down our own points.

#3
The panels asked, who wants to change their course? none of us say yes. So, move to another question, so the panel asked us, there are 1500 places for this year, now we are given an opportunity to promote ourself and talk about why we deserve the scholarship? We can choose to answer this question either in BM or English. yeah, for me of course English. lols. 3 Chinese were using English to answer this question just one, the only boy answered it by using BM.

That’s all, the interview finally ended. All 3 panels are nice and polite. They won’t shoot us and never shoot us. FYI, one panel is pengawai JPA, one is doctor and another one is someone who works for government as an architecture for 8 years. lols.

p/s: I know my english is not good at all, sucks. So, this whole long long article sure have lots of mistakes. I’m so sorry. All the best to all who went to the interview! and good luck!

Venue: PICC, Putrajaya

Time: 8.00 A.M.

Personal experience:

Here at Putrajaya, there are 15 Panels with 25 interviewees each and then will be divided into 5 groups of 5 interviewees. I was lucky as in batch 2. In my group there are 3 guys from three different races which are Chinese, Malay and Indian and 2 girls which me and 1 Indian girl.

Well, my interview was weird because we got no topic to be discussed AT ALL and ironically, it lasted more than an hour.:laugh

The interviewers consisted a PTD ~ Indian women, an engineer and a professor who's currently teaching at UIAM if I am not mistaken~ Malay guys.

To tell you the truth, they (actually it's just the professor who did the talking. The others were only chipping in) just ask us about our personal interest and asked us to elaborate about Program Pendedahan Kerjaya Seorang Doktor. They also encouraged us to write books and do specialization if we continue pursuing our dream of becoming a doctor.

The professor even told us some jokes. For intance, when the engineer guy told us that he's from JKR, the professor immediately cracked up jokes by saying "Oh, Jalan Kurang Rata" and all of us laughed.
The other one was when he asked us the meaning of MBBS. We said Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery and he suddenly said "Wrong!!". All of us started to get panicked as his impression towards us may have gone down in the drain but then he said, "Members of Backbenches Society".. :nuts We all laughed out loud. He was so funny.

Then he gave some advices and asked us if there's anything that we wanna know about this scholarships and the courses that we have chosen.
The end.

P.S.--> I don't know if this will be helpful to those who are going for the JPA interview

I really don't know how to rate my performance as I was unsure myself of what have I done during the interview.

Here are some favourite questions asked by the interviewers around the nation in JPA interview 2010:

1) Introduction [Name, previous school, family background, co-curriculum, course applied and reasons(Make sure you do adequate researches on the course/major selected)](Mostly in BM, but if you're lucky, you will get to speak in English.)
2) Country selected and reasons. (Make sure you don't say about foreign education is better, or else it might be offensive!)
3) What make you spe...

Then what is the point applying this overseas scholarship when you don't even agree education is better out there? Interviewers are mature adult and do you think they are likely to be fooled by this i-wan-this-scholarship-so-i-lie answer? Anyway I don't think this lie is necessary and is neither effective.

In that case , if you applied for overseas , just give them examples why you say that overseas is better , especially the country you choose ( important : make sure you tell them you will back to Malaysia and contribute back to your country ) :P

Venue:Majlis Perbandaran Ipoh
Subject applied:Teknologi Maklumat/ICT

Today is my interview day--8.8.2010.it's at 8morning.I reached the majlis perbandaran
building at about 7.30am.The journey to ipoh has never been so ….,u know what I said, because I normally went to ipoh with my family to travel,or have some wedding dinner, etc.never been encountered in my life—went there for INTERVIEW.indeed, this is first time in my life for such serious interview,I think. My heart was pumping upside down.

Well,as I stepped down from the car, there’s an guy, taller than me I think.he’s with his day,oso just stepped down from the car.His dad is even taller, kinda like European guy.i think he’s like Indian guy,but I guess he’s completely pure Indian.the first impression I saw his dad was,I had an idea that he is one of the panel.but I was wrong,he was a parent, came with his son for interview.the son automatically shook my hand,I was shock because I don’t know him at all.later,I wished him good luck.

I entered the ground floor.there is a section where parents were not allowed to go in.i followed the guard’s instruction, went to the second floor. There were too much interviewee using the elevator,so we went up using the emergency path.I was relieved and felt better after I saw my friends from the same school, like winson, khai wei, huey ling, juo yin,and hong chian.we went up to the second floor, checking our names there, but my name and two of my friends name were not there in the name list.the person incharge ask us to wait for a while.so we went down ground floor again, search for toilet.the toilet at the ground floor was locked,so we went up second floor again, after asking the guard that there are toilets available at the second floor.

After we went to toilet,we came across a guy who’s sitting at the registration area, and the guy ask us to check our names again.yeah,we found our name’s there.so,there are 5 panels for my day.different panel, they have different rooms for interview.so,don’t be surprise if you found out that the second panel have to go up till the ninth floor!for me,I’m lucky enough to stay on the same floor.

I was in the third group.so,for two hours,we chat with our new friends there.exhanging ideas on how the questions may asked, and the current issue.(we even exchange our facebook!)well,I did know new friends there, two of them are from ipoh, and the other one is from gunung rapat.so,hong chian and me sat together and chat with the 3 new guys we just know.at first,we thought we were in the same group.but, after the second group came out from the interview room,we only discovered we were not in the same group.hong chian and me were the same, but not the other 3 guys.it’s such rather down because we plan to cooperate when the panel shoot at us.(haha…)well,my new group consisting of two guys, and 3 girls.one of my friend from st,george,he’s in the second group.i managed to catch some opportunities to ask some questions from my friends who were out of the interview room.

First, greet the panels.good morning, selamat pagi..etc.I saw one of the interviewer, and the whole group,I was the only one, greeting him with tamil—kalleh varnekem.maybe this is one of the advantage for going ns!haha…the first thing was Introduction .the panels will give the guidelines like yourself, names, family background, koko activities and course applied and the reason for applying the course. The first Chinese girl started off.i think she’s quite tensed, and so am i.she introduced herself, and the family background.blahblah blah…I cant remembered quite well cause I’m tensed at that time!i planned to shake hands with the interviewers, but cant!because there’s a big round table in front of us,we cant reach them.the first girl applied for applied science, and she applied for PIDN,not PILN.so,it went on for the second girl, which is also Chinese.she applied for tourism.she did quite well for her introduction, and she was tensed too.she applied for tourism.in between when the girls talked,I listened to them, planning what am I going to talk, and I nodded my head to agree with them.through this,I managed to calm myself down magically.it was my turn as I was the third person to make self –intro.i uses malay as it was required.’’Salam sejahtera kepada panel dan rakan2 yang baru saya kenali kat luar.Salam 1 malaysia.Nama saya lim chip dong.masa kat plkn saya lebih dikenali sebagai lcd, nama samaran saya.saya tak kisah kalau panggil saya lcd’’I make my self-intro quite well, and I’m confident for my self-intro.I talked about family background…and koko activities,in the aspect of badan beruniform, club and socities and sports.but I was to nervous that I left out for the competition –including the web designing competition and essay writing competition.i went on to my course.why I apply for IT.i gave two reason, the first one is because I am really interested in computer.(you have to really been interested to the course you’re applying for.you cant just memorize the course u wanna studied and the reason why you studied.it’s too dangerous as you will be too tensed to forget all your points.Ns do trained my BM quite well.thanks to it.)I gave some examples like I love to creating websites(it’s true,no lie at all.please be sincere when you gave the reason)I learned some basic html language by myself by reading up
some books.so the interviewer asked me whether can I create software or not.i answered none,I’m more fond of creating webpages.and he asked do you have a blog.this time,my answer is ‘’YES’’.
(tips:don’t answer yes if you cant really do the things.they will shoot at you with questions!dont forget, they’re professionals and you cant fool the panels.do answer yes for what you know.My advice is,be honest when answering questions.dont keep answer yes, even you cant do it,just to get the scholarships.so take up some hobbies and read up articles related to your course.it helps.and most importantly, you’re interested in what you ‘re applying for.no pressure from others like parents.the future is in your hand.think carefully.have the enthusiasm with it and you’ll success.)
The second reason I gave was related to the government’s policy.i talked about the governments are releasing some very exciting policy related to the field of IT recently.and it’s a great potential to study IT.

I’m too nervous again,to left out the third reason, regretted.

The panel did ask me some questions, like are you going to study local if not given overseas scholarships?my answer is yes,as long as I can solved my financial problems of the family.but I still prefer to study overseas.and the panel didn’t shoot me for this questions.they also ask me some other things like, what country do you prefer to go?i answered US.my first choice is US,and luckily the jpa offered US for me also.then they asked why?i answered, relate it to the apple ipad.US is advanced in IT.we can see that some crazy apple fans are willing to sleep in the tents, which they set up outside the apple stores, just to buy ipads.the panels asked about the same thing,if occurring in Malaysia.i am conscious enough for apple ipads and iphones.because I’m one of the crazy apple fans. =) I answered, well, ipads still haven’t being sold in Malaysia.this time, the other panels answered,no,I mean apple iphone.i said’’this situation don’t happened in Malaysia.but the IT field in US growth tremendously,it’s not only the governments who’s doint the job.this requires the cooperations from the private sector also, and the publics.

(for my interview, the panels ask mainly in BM,I mean, for my questions.)

My self-intro was over.beside me was a Indian girl, who’s applied for accounting.she did make a quite well reasonable answer for her family economy status.she said that her family already sent her brother abroad,so her family cant afford to send her overseas again.)but I believe what she said is sincere, and please again, please don’t give this reason if this does not happen in you family.be sincere to yourself.explain the truth happening in the family.face your conscience and you should not feel a sense of guilty after all if you tell the truth.

The last interviewee is my friend, hong chian.he applied for civil engineering.he talked less but the interviewer do give th chance for you to express your opinion.so don’t worry,be relax.

Later, the panel ask us,IF you are given the chance to choose, only one of you will be sent for PILN.you can choose yourself,or your friend.but you scholarships will be dropped, changed into PIDN.what’s your choice?the girl applied for PIDN does not required to answer the question.so,only four of us are answering.

I chose the girl beside me,who applied for tourism.i don’t want to express myself too selfish.i cares for others, and actually I do.the girl is so tensed so I pity her, yeah.i related my points with malaysia’s potential in tourism industry, and the kuala sepetang’s mangrove forest.then it’s the Indian girl’s turn, she chose herself, giving reasons like economy problems.and hong chian too,he chose himself because he’s confident that civil engineering will contribute greatly for the country. And both of them kena teruk for choosing themselves.the panels shoot them with questions like there are many accountant and civil engineers in Malaysia.so why should you deserve this?and the panel even questioned the Indian girl, like many economy crisis is caused by accountant because they’re doing the fake accounting work.so…..blahblahblah.In conclusion,my advice is,be firm to defend your points when you choose youself, when answering this type of questions. You must have a strong proof that you really deserved for the scholarships.

The panels went for the second section—open discussion.I did quite poor for this part.i’m expecting them to ask questions like are you willing to go to rural areas to serve or current issue.Well, they didn’t ask.they asked us to sit in semi-circle.they threw out a statement,it sounds like this:what is your opinion and research, claiming that the patriotism among youngsters are declined.I thought the panels are giving time like 2 minutes for us to discuss among ourselves. But it happened too badly.i only managed to answer a few things, just like add ons.i’m not giving any points for this questions.the girls were dominating it.LOL,I just do too bad in this part.

The interview was over.it just happened too fast, and I thought that they will continue and I will be able to express my ideas.this don’t happen, anyway.the panels did give us some time to ask question.and we knew that we’ll be able to see our results online on the 12th of may.the interview ended here.

Thanks to all recomers,I get myself prepared from the articles shared.and thanks to my friends too,for sharing their experience during the interview.also,I appreciated your help and support much. Thanks!hope all of us good luck!

reached there at about 1pm++. signed on a white board, i was in panel 8-- 4pm. our names were listed according to B.O.D. so out of 6 in my group,4 people are born on the same day...haha^^.

waiting part: i wasn't too nervous and had chit chat with my group members....and till a part we were laughing so loudly that we were warned by the kerani...the interviewers came out too and said: mainlah ar...nanti bla bla....

so at 4pm++we went in. there were 3 interviewers, one malay woman, one malay guy and 1 indian guy. the malay woman sitting in the middle first gave a briefing.then a chinese girl with tag no6 was instructed to start with self-intro part (she went in slightly late...) only the girl did that in BM while the rest of us did it in Eng because the interviewer asked in English. overall, it's was just self-intro, where we told them our name, previous school, family background, co-curricular activities we participated, what course we chose, which country to go to.

then, the interviewers will ask us things regarding our course. like i wanted to do dietitics. the indian asked
1)why pilih under science, not perubatan?
then i said because based on my research, the title is bachelor of sci in nutrition and dietitics...so i choose science.

2)what can you do for your nation(sumbangan...they asked everyone.some in BM some in Eng)
[COLOR=black][FONT=Verdana]i said educate ppl on importance of nutrition bla bla...the indian guy pressed me and said now malaysia just launched a campaign, no need to wait u for 5 years. So I went on to say that I can be a sports dietitian and my contributions bla bla bla

Then what is the point applying this overseas scholarship when you don't even agree education is better out there? Interviewers are mature adult and do you think they are likely to be fooled by this i-wan-this-scholarship-so-i-lie answer? Anyway I don't think this lie is necessary and is neither effective.

That is called education policy which will indirectly affect the education system. You can get education just about anywhere, good or bad; and you don't need to go overseas to get better education about life.

P.S.: Please be reminded that this is an only-interview-experience thread and keep it clean for future recomers.

then they continue to ask...lawyer nomally nid to defend someone which is guilty to get avoided from convictions..how will u handle such cases?then i said tat if i found tat my client is rely did wrong..then i will try to convince him to admit his faults...is tis a good answer?zzz

one more thing!i said my hobby is singing n i like to go to ktv..then the chinese male interviewer ask me sing wat song..then i say modern chinese song lo..then!!omg..he ask for example..shit..my mind suddenly blank..then i simply say 'forever love' from wang li hong..zzzz

advice:erm...try to speak as much mature points during group discussion..it cn impress the panels effectively...but some of the group may nt hv group discussion..it depends on panels..brush up bm n english speaking skills!!it's very important..as i m one of the victims of it..which cnt speak bm n english fluently...speak confidently..be urself..the best~~

rating:dono..mayb 7/10 o 8/10 gua..

Course Applied: Science (Statistics)

Venue: Putrajaya

Date and time: 9th April, 8am

Experience:
I was the first group for panel 4 so i didn't have to wait long before my interview. My group consisted of 6 persons. 4 Chinese girls and 2 Malay boys. Interviewers were 2 Malay ladies and 1 Malay/Indian man who was an aeronautical engineer.

There were 2 parts. We were to introduce ourselves in BM and there was a discussion topic in BI.

Introduction:
Name, School, Course and why, State country and university. The interviewers will ask questions regarding your course. For mine it was what can you do for your government? Why that country? What's biostatistics? What kementerian will you be working in when you come back?

Discussion:
What is your opinion if the government stop sending students overseas during your preparatory course? There was a list of questions for the interviewers to choose, and they choose that one. The discussion was very short as we only gave one opinion and that was roughly it because we took longer time during the introduction as the interviewers asked a lot of questions.

Overall, the interview lasted for 1 hour.

Advice: When you enter the room, smile to the interviewers and stand in front of your seat, don't sit down immediately. Read up on the course that you take. On what you are going to learn about and how you can serve the country. And also which country you want to go. This is very important to show to the interviewers that you've done your research and is sure of what you want to do in the future. Prepare an introduction in BM and BI so that you can leave a good impression to the interviewers that you've prepared and that you can express yourself well. (:

I would say that going for JPA interview was a good experience. To those who are having cold feet reading other people's interviews, my interviewers were very very nice. Even the kerani was nice! Don't worry, and trust in God that He will provide for you. :D

My interview was on the last day and I doubt many will be reading this, this year. But I would like to thank ALL RECOMMERS, for those who shared their experience, knowledge and helped answered my questions. I love you all! hahah :D

Rating: 7/10

Course Applied: Science (Actuarial Science)

Date: 9th April 2010

Time: 8am

Venue: PICC, Putrajaya

Experience part:

Well, I reached there at 7.45am, which the hall had already full with potential scholars. I went to the board nearby and checked my name, and signed it to confirm my attendance. Later, i went straight to the panel, which i had leave my mom outside(only interviewees allowed to go in). Then, i went to search for my panel, Panel 3, and sat there. I met this guy, which was at the same group with me, applying for Science local. We chatted a lot but nothing much important. Later, a JPA officer called my name, and ask me to hand in all the certified documents (IC, birth certs, ...), as well as the clear holder fulled with every document needed.

Well, fortunately i was able to get know of my group members, 3 girls (Michelle Phoon, Emily Cheah, Jasmine Yeoh) and 2 boys (me and Soon Yew). Well i know, all Chinese. Michelle is applying for Chemical Engineering, which she later wished to switch into Science(Chemistry), Emily(Business Admin), Jasmine(Accountancy), me[Science(Actuarial Science) and Soon Yew(Science local)]. Not long after, since we are all at the first group, we went into the interviewers room. We greeted them, and they permitted us to sit down, as usual. The interviewers consist of 2 Malay ladies, and one Indian lady. They are too kind, and the Malay lady started first.

Here're the questions:

Section 1 (Introduction)
Malay interviewer 1: Okay, please introduce yourself in Bahasa Malaysia, starting from the 5th person, then 3rd, 1st, 2nd (me) and 4th.

Okay, everyone seemed doing fine on this part. Well, for this part, there was no any time restriction, so we can talk anything we want, as long as we wish to. I'm not really satisfied for my answer in this section, as i didn't say much on my course. And the weird thing was, they didn't even shoot me once!!! They didn't ask a lot about my preferred course, which i have been preparing it since last year. Well, the interviewer did ask me about "So, you like movie of numbers?" , and i said " yeah, 21(if you know the movie)." Well, at least i did mention about i do know that to be a qualified actuary is not an easy mission, and i know that i'm capable to do it, pass the professional exams. I did sell myself a little bit here, but suddenly i thought of how if they ask another question, which is "Why you deserve this scholarship?", and i might not have the chance to speak the points out as i have already stated everything in the intro(But eventually they didn't!). So, i stopped at the professional exams, and i totally forgot about my preferred country and reasons, which nobody in my group mentioned about it.

Section 2: Group Discussion (English)
Malay interviewer 2: Okay, what is the current issue that you are concern about and why? Discuss it in 5 minutes.

We moved our chair to a semicircle shape, and discussed about the current issue, and finally came out with 1 Malaysia Concept. We discussed it for about 5 minutes, before the interviewers said that "Can we start now?". Everyone agreed and moved the chairs to the initial positions. I was not the first one to talk, as i don't really know what to talk in 1 Malaysia concept. Well, after two other interviewees spoke out their opinions, i volunteered to be the third one, which i think is, not too bad. I talked about 1 Malaysia is a concept introduced by Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, a concept that can consolidate our nation unity among races, to prevent the past history to repeat, just like the tragedy of 13 May 1969. Besides, 1 Malaysia concept also about one thinking, which can make all the citizens focus to one vision, Vision 2020, that set by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia. Oh, and suddenly i thought about a post i read in a blog (Boyzoo's blog if i'm not mistaken), I said about there are lots of Malaysian staying outside Malaysia, and become permanent residents in their working countries. Many thought that they are lack of loyalty( I forgot about the word "loyalty" and after a while stuck at the point, i said "Taat setia", OMG!!! >.< ), but in fact, they are much more patriotic than what we might thought as. They are actually very proud to be Malaysians, and whenever people ask them about their origin, they'd answer "I'm from Malaysia", and they'd promote Malaysia to others.

Suddenly, the interviewer asked me:
"Do you have any relative staying overseas, as permanent resident?"

Me: "Well, yeah, i have a cousin who is a permanent resident in UK, working there." Then, everything's over for the Section 2 after others spoke out of their opinions.

Section 3: Personal Question (BM)
Indian interviewer: Okay, sekarang, nyatakan satu keburukan Facebook.

Oh gosh, i was like, Facebook??? Okay, nice one. The first person said out her opinions, and later i spoke out mine as well, as the second interviewee. I said about Facebook is totally wastage of time, and as a teenager, we should appreciate the time studying, and do those activities that are more beneficial, such as be a volunteer in a charity centers. Besides, Facebook is also the place for the cyber crime to occur. Well, i think i was okay in this part.

However, for whole interview session, i think i was a little bit... nervous. I was relatively slower in speaking(especially English), and i need to think longer before i speak, as compared to other interviewees, who could speak English really fluently.

Rating: I don't really know how to rate myself. Maybe 6/10. Someone rates me please? :huh

Advices: Well, to all junior Recommers, or Recommers-to-be, just read up other posts' advices and you should be doing fine. Thanks a lot Recommers, and best of luck to everyone!!! =)

I think yours wold merit a 7/10. :)

As for me,

Course Applied: Law

Date : 7 April 2010

Time: 2 p.m

Venue: Majlis Bandaraya Miri, Miri

My group was the last to go. There were 2 boys and 4 girls (Gerald, Adrian, Felicia, Adeline, Garnette Fedora and me), each one applying for an overseas scholarship except for a friend from a former school, who applied for a local scholarship in Chemical Engineering. In fact, 4 of them applied for engineering, and I was the only one who applied for a non-Science degree.

We spent most of the time talking to each other, and soon enough, we were talking about current events, the potential of Sarawak and Sabah for development, modern city in Malaysia, our courses, etc. The officers who were nearby also chatted with us and gave us encouragement.

When it was our turn, we all greeted the interviewers before taking a seat. Here's the lowdown on what the interviewers asked us.

1: INTRODUCTION

I think this is basically the same as everyone here - they ask us to elaborate on our name, school, our achievements at school, what course are we planning to take and why.

2. DISCUSSION.

They asked 2 questions: One in English and the other in Malay.

First question was: Who inspires you and why?

I was the last to answer since everyone else gave what they thought. I saw that most of my friends talked about people most close to them: either a teacher or a parent.

I answered them by stating that I have two people who inspire me: my dad and the Prophet Muhammad saw., and I proceeded to elaborate on why. I had to admit, I spoke almost haltingly as I was quickly brainstorming without havig anyhing as a guide!

The seond question was, "Apakah yang menjadikan seouran jurutera/pakar bioteknologi/peguam yang baik?"

Ha! At this point I was the first to answer! XD I stated that a good lawyer should not only think of profits during his career (just because you're getting high pay!), should have a strong character foundation and principles, and should act rationally and professionally at work.

3: Q & A SESSION

At this last part, the interviewers asked if we have anything to ask about the scholarship, etc. Each of us had our questions and the interviewers gave us good answers, keeping us at ease.

I just forgot to ask whether I would be doing my A Levels in Malaysia or overseas if I get the scholarship. =.=

So if I had to rate........6/10.

Judging from what you guys have been asked, I think I should feel lucky I got off that easily. Anyway, hopefully we'd get a place!

hey nick...which panel did u get?
Oh...btw...its time for me to contribute back my interview after getting so much help from recommers..:)and to nick,..thks alot man...one of th topics u posted yesterday rwas indeed th topics we r supposed to discuss 2day..xD
Ok...for my case...
Course Applied : Engineering
Date : 9 April 2010
Time : 8 a.m.
Venue : PICC

When I arrived there at 7.30 +...all potential scholars were all ever-ready...well-dressed...and all full with confidence...and my fren and I..was lyk...abit tensed up and nervous...hahah
Anyway...we proceed ahead when the encik told us to go to pur designated panel and register.
Get to meet many of my old frens and also many new frens der..:)
then came th interview part...*nervous...cold sweat*

1. INTRODUCTION
we can choose either to answer in BM or BI. So,,i choose to answer in BI..juz a breif one actually...I am supposed to talk about my name, previous skol, parents occupation , my future ambition and the place iwud want to study...(PILN)...last but not least...I hv to elaborate on my co-co activities.
2. DISCUSSION
It is a random discussion with the interviewers..evryone wud be given time to express thier time...juz don't use too much time...my topic in BM was APAKAH AKTIVITI YANG SEKOLAH DAPAT MENGANJURKAN UNTUK MEYEMAT KONSEP 1 MALAYSIA? haha...its somthing lyk this..forgotten th exact question...so everyone jot down thier points...and they asked anyone would lyk to volunteer to answer first..then I raised my hand to answer it first b4 my answer was being used up...=p...2nd question is GIVE MY OPINION ON THE QUALITY OF AIR AND WATER IN MALAYSIA? this is in english. so same thing agen...evryone jot down...brainstorming ideas...then same process again..this time others volunteered first and i wud juz add on my points.

suprisingly...this is all for the interview session..:)the last part was actually a Q & A session... the interviewers were so kind tht they even asked us to take a break and laid back abit...dun be so nervous...hahaha...maby we r jus a lil' too nervous...:)
So, evryone in my group shake hand and we leave our rooms after bidding goodbye...lol..

Rating : dunno...maby 7/10..it was not bad if only i hadn't been nervous..lol..evrything wud be perfect

Advice : basically.. one main point...try not to memorise scrpits...it helps to give ideas but if u feel uncomfortable dun do it..as it will make u more nervous as a result of the fear of making mistakes..eg. missing out on a main point...juz relax..dun b lyk me...such a nervous bloke...lol

Hihi!! i'll do my best to tell ya'll what happened. the advices will have asteriks (*).
i left my place at 7am and almost got lost. ;) the road signs hopeless for first timers
it starts to jam at 8, when ppl start going to work.
*go early or to try going there once first, before the interview itself.

Nywayz, i reached there around 8.10. once there, i went to the lobby and checked my name, which was on a list posted on a board. After signing, i went to the upper floor where the interviews were supposed to take place. there was a HUGE waiting place for parents. i had to split up with my parents there. it was kinda intimidating tho, SUPER alot of ppl. :)
*the trick is to look confident even if you're SUPER scared.

i had to walk past hundreds of people who were waiting for panels. :) Luckily for me, i had friends there. my interview was the 3rd batch. i managed to ask my friends from the 1st and 2nd batch about the interviewers and the questions asked.
1st batch: 1 malaysia, air and water pollution
2nd batch: petrol price

once outside the room where we were supposed to be interviewed, you don't need to hand in anything until the clerk asks you to.
*make sure you get everything ready and in order in your files. that way, you won't panic when you're looking for your stuff and you'll definitely be calmer. :)

when they called the names of the people from my group, it was very automatic, the other girl in my group, Priscilla, and i immediately clicked. After that, we got the other 3 guys (2 chinese, 1 malay) together and we started chit-chatting,This must have livened up and definitely loosened up the tense atmosphere.
*get to know your group members and make friends.

before going in, we agreed to help each other during the discussion.
when the 2nd batch got out, the five of us were so ready to go in we were waiting right outside the room door. what we didn't expect was that the interviewers came out for a break. LOL. so, we sat down and waited again.

since i was the 2nd last to go in, and everyone was sitting down edi, i sat down also. =.=
*The interviewers must have asked them to be seated. If not, Don't sit down until ask to.

there were two guys and one lady.
one malay, one indian and one chinese. 1MALAYSIA! :)
the malay lady spoke SUPER english, and the chinese guy spoke SUPER bm.the indian guy kept quiet and smile most of the time. They were great and very nice.

i think our interview was the longest. we took around 45 mins just for our intro. ><
for my panel they basically want to know:
1. Name
2. Siblings
3. Parents' occupation
4. extra curricular activites
5. what course we wanted and where
6. if we were doing any preparatory course
they basically wanted to know LOADS about your koko. EMPHASISE on koko.
they took notes for that and also on what course we wanted to do and where.
*please prepare your intro thoroughly. prepare for both malay and english.VERY VERY IMPORTANT!! They may asked in either

oh yea, and the guys in our group were not 2 chinese and 1 malay, it was one malay, one indian and one chinese. (sorry rahul. lol)

*remember your koko activites and posts that you wanna tell them about.
:)
**don't ever get intimidated when you find out your group member's koko or by their answers. (Actually i was a bit).

my group really did well on that part. every one of us were SUPER involved int our ECA (extra curricular activities.)
btw, 4 of us did it in malay and 1 in english.

just so ya'll know, the interviewers are professionals. for me, since i applied for engineering, there were REAL ENGINEERS interviewing me.
*Do research on the course you applied for.

and when we talked about what course we wanted, they asked:
what if you didn't get that place? what if we give you somewhere else?
PLEASE don't say that you don't want it, say that you appreciate it, but you would prefer it (where). if can, back it up with good points about wherever you wanna go. *just make sure you don't leave any loopholes for them to shoot you.

by this time, it was already 1045. >< so the interviewers kinda rushed thru the discussion part. ^^

the first ques (malay):
~apakah pendapat anda jika JPA mengentikan PILN?
since all of us applied for the overseas scholarship, we went against it of course. we mentioned "i agree with (who)" and stuff like that.
i was the third to voice my opinion. We need not go in order of no.

the second ques (eng):
~talk about the current local issues in the media.
so, we spoke of global warming, MCA, only 1500 JPA applicants could get the scholarship. :)
i talked about the tremor that was felt in penang. then i added in a little engineering points.
i was the third to voice out.

eg: i think that the safety factors of every building should be increased. for example, the twin towers. i believe that it has an allowance for earthquakes of magnitude xxx on the richter scale , and that since the tremor felt was arnd xxx also, the safety factor of the twin towers should be increased.

like i mentioned above:
*get to know the terms used in the course you applied for and know what you are talking about if you do not want to be bombarded.=.='

at the end, they told us when the results were coming out. ^^

then it was over. once the door was closed, we were relieved we even took a group picture. LOL.

if you need any more info, feel free to email me. :) Looks like every panel asked diff questions, different style. So just be prepared for all situations and read up on current issues.

Don't know about the outcome since there are so many applicants but well, hope the sharing helps.

ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU FUTURE INTERVIEWEES!

~God bless!

Course Applied: Accountancy (PILN)

Venue: PICC

Experience: The story begins on the 7th of April. On Recom, people were saying that their interview timings were being altered. So I check e-Sila and true enough, my interview was changed from 8am to 11.15am on Friday,9th April.
So on the day of the interview I left my house as early as 9am. To be safe, and partly because KDS warned me to go earlier as they called him in about 25 minutes earlier than stated in his letter.
So, at 9am we took a slow drive to PICC. As we were approaching the Putrajaya toll, suddenly my father's phone rang.
"Hello! Nicholas! Where are you? Come faster!"
Lol. Wth, it was only 9.30. My interview was supposed to be at 11.15am. -_-"
So, my father rushed to PICC (140+ km/h)
Then we arrived at that oddly shaped building and parked and rushed to the lobby.
I saw my name, it was under the 11.00-12.00 session. O.o

Well, I then rushed upstairs and saw a lot, A LOT of parents, but like just 1 or 2 students. Then I figured it out, and went to the interview halls. Walked in there, looked for panel 4. And then suddenly the secretary was like
"Hey Nicholassssss! Come here! Here, here !" LOL. I was wondering how she could've recognised me.
Then, like hardly 2 minutes later, that lady was pulling a chair into the interview room. Then she was like "okay, you can go in."
I was like :O So soon?! Haha, okay.
And I went in and the interviewers asked us to sit down. My panel consisted of 3 people, 2 Malay ladies and another Malay guy. JPA people I presume.
So, the introductions went on, I was 7 out of 8. Then came my turn. I talked and talked. They asked why I wanted to go overseas. Why this country. Why accountancy. Why UK. Why not Malaysia. So I answered each and every why. :) Oh yeah it was in BM, but ok lah, not much problem.
Then, since each person's intro took quite long, with the questions from the interviewers, the discussion was pretty short. They asked us to sit in a semi-circle. So, we did. Then they gave us the topic " Mental health is important to students". Then I heard them say 5 minutes. But like 10 seconds later, this guy started speaking. Wow, so fast. Okay lah, let him speak first. Then after he spoke, I added on the importance of mental health, especially to us students overseas. Challenges etc etc. Then the interviewers asked the others to elaborate on what is mental health and how to stay strong mentally. So they all spoke. And then I added something that went like, do everything in moderation. Study + de-stress. Something like that. Since it was in English, I could speak like rather spontaneously.
Then like a few minutes later, it was over! Wow, that was fast. Then the panel members asked if we had any questions. Some of us asked, including me. Then they told us, okay you may go now. :)

Rating: 8/10? maybe la. because I could answer their questions quite well. And discussion was good :D

Advice/Additional info: By the way, the interviewers were super nice, that is always smiling and laughing. However, for future interviews, ie next year, please do at least some research on your course and country of choice. They really grilled those who weren't sure. Don't change your mind so easily.; like going from Social Sciences to education all of a sudden. And be confident, one guy was very jittery, you could hear it from his voice. And the interviewers told him to relax and calm down. His voice was very shaky, almost like as though he was crying.

i guess mine will be the last 1...haha...

place: picc
time: 11
day: 9/4/10
course: economics

after checking the letter from jpa, i decide to go abit later...as it was stated 1115 there...anyway i reach at 10 thou...then sign my name and when to the counter and register...once i reach the ppl there straight say something like...dh cukup org blh masuk...wth?? haha...then i sit down, trying to chill myself and make some new frens to DISTRESS...haha...

after like 5 mins later, the previous group from my panel came out...and one of them share her experience wif me...and she advice me to DONT EVER say you dun like doctor...coz there is a doctor there...ok so bear in mind that...after awhile, i was given a tag and then...my turn...i got number 4...donno whether its good or not oso...

then once we enter...we were briefly told about the interview and ask to intro ourself by saying... name, school, family background, and course... guess like i am the onli one applying for econs in my group thou...haha...then one of the interviewers was like...eyh you apply econs?? but u dun have economy asas paper...then i replied...we dun need economi asas paper...we onli need acc, chem and phy...wrong thing to say coz she shoot me directly wif m16 at the end...haha...

then we start wif our 1st quest... wat will you do if you didnt get the scholarship and the course you applied?? well i was the 1st one to start...i will appeal from the gov...if really xdpt...(mix some eng and bm...the quest was in bm thou) then go for either f6 or local matrix if i get la...haha...for the future candidate for jpa interview, i advice u to say tat you are willing to go for form 6 coz jpa loves form6...no idea why...there is 1 boy in my group tat got bang for saying he dun wanna go form6 coz he say its tough...

then 2nd quest...who is ur role model and wat qualities tat he hav?? this quest is in bm thou...i said our current pm which is najib...and qualities is responsible...my other group member said lee chong wei, sharizat and mahatir...

3rd quest...in eng finally...wat can you do to curb human trafficking?? we were given 30 seconds to think and jot down our points...my answer was 1st dun employ foreigners as maid...instead employ local ppl as maid...then report to police or dbkl...link it wif the current news tat dblk do...then 3rd send those children to shelter homes...

4th round...which is suppose to be a personal quest end up to be a m16 shooting session for me...damn...there is 1 interviewer tat keep on bang me on econs quest...asking me about form4 economi asas quest...gosh tis is bad...and all i can say is...i donno and i am sorry...and she keep on say i made the wrong choice of choosing econs...and i should go for acc as well...come on...tis is my choice...=.=...she even say tat i will be slower than other ppl when i am doing my foundation...coz i no basic...gosh tis is wat hardworking ppl are for...work harder to be same as the rest la...=.=...anyway i just end her critizing session by saying...i will buy econs book and read before hand...she laugh at my statement...donno wat she meant wif tat...

there is another girl which got quest about wat is the diff between 1st child and 2nd as she plan to take child physcology...

the end...rating?? 6.5/10

advice to future candidate of jpa scholarship...try to be outstanding and be firm wif your choice of courses...dun panic and change ur course just because you got shoot wif m16 on the head...be calm and always think positive...and most important is...always read recom...haha...:))

*Second batch interview*

Course Applied: Diploma Kejuruteraan Jepun

Venue: Putrajaya

Experience:

Okay, I reached about 8am+
Knowing that my interview is @<hidden>, I went in around 10.45am(approximately 30 mins before). The clerk was very very nice. Lol
After she checked everything, she asked me to sit and wait.. till she calls me. Then while waiting, I made friends with some sitting near to the interview room.

Panel 5 (:

Okay.. my group : 5 girls [3 chinese – Econs/Accounting/Jap Eng(me), 1 malay(Korea Eng), 1 indian(medic)] 1 boy(Jap Eng)

Panels – 2 malay Sir, 1 malay lady (they are very very nice, p/s they didn’t simply tembak us, its more like a friendly conversation)

Instructions given : BM question answer in BM, English question answer in English. (overall, 2 topics BM and 2 topics English)

Introduction in BM.
The usuals.. Name, School, Parents occupation, Ko-k, involvement in school. (From number 1 to 6) I’m number 2. A bit nervous there, :( well.. its kinda impossible NOT to be nervous right? I kinda struggle a bit, stopped for about less than 1 minute then I try to continue. :oh The interviewers are very kind, they asked me to relax and inhale and exhale. =D

Topics :
1. Smoking among teenagers (how serious it is, what govern should do) in English.

2. After that, the malay officer asked us, “Pandai bahas tak?”
All of us were like.. “uhh? Bahas?? Tak pandai sangat..”

Then they asked, who wants to be the leader (pengadil) who does the introduction and rumusan. Uhh, I volunteered. :sweat (Seriously don't know what was I thinking at that moment. :box )

Then they asked who wants to be the pencadang and pembangkang.
Others were like.. sir, what topic? But the interviewers refuse to tell us the topic till we decide who are the pembangkang or pencadang.

Topic – Peranan Institusi Keluarga dalam menangani gejala sosial dalam kalangan remaja.
*PS : This question the interviewer took from a Sivik book, (I saw) But not sure which form mia book.. its definitely not f5 sivik book. lol

*We need to sit in one semi circle, and me as the pengadil, I sat in the centre.. and then they asked me to start the bahas. Honestly.. I don’t really know whats happening and kinda regretted that I volunteered to be the pengadil. :-?

Well, I start off by saying, topik sudah diberi oleh panel, sesudah kini kita tahu gejala sosial merupakan isu yang meruncing(damn, I didn’t think of this word when I was in the room). Sekarang bolehkah kita mula dengan pihak pencadang?

And the bahas goes on.. the interviewers asked us not to look at them, they just want to see how we communicate with each other, treat the interviewers as invisible :P

The pencadang stressed on family is important vs the pembangkang stressed on government’s role and also friends influence on youngsters.

Then after all the bahas, I was asked to make a rumusan.. I said, after hearing all the pendapat daripada pihak pencadang dan juga pihak pembangkang, dalam pandangan saya.. (I’ll continue in English :amuse) I pointed out that we can’t just stress on government’s role and also stress on family’s role alone.. the government and families should work together to solve this issue. We as a Malaysian we should work together to solve this problem, not just stress on individual responsibility. (according to the points given by my group members, I elaborated a little) Then the interviewers keep nodding as I look at them when I talk.

Pheww, it finished then we sit back in our own position.

3. Why should JPA give you the scholarship between your group members?

I kinda stressed on Japan’s the number 1 electronic country, I want to learn their work ethics (The interviewer asked me what kind of work etchic? I answered their hardworking-ness as we know Japanese are workaholics. Then she asked me again, you want to turn Malaysians to workaholics as well? I defended by saying Japanese are workaholics because they love their country so much that they want their country to be number 1, so I would want young Malaysians to be like them as well) & WHAT IF you didn’t get JPA scholarship, what will you do?

*Question 3 you can either answer in BM or BI

Rating: x/10 (How much do you people rate my performance? Despite when I talk I kinda got stuck here and there)

Advice/Additional info: Follow the flow.. and just talk normally.. and try to speak out, and cross fingers (:

Well, some of the questions asked for others –

Economics – Did you search on which university is the best for Economics? Why choose USA for economics?
Korea Eng – Going there to see Winter Sonata?

Any better suggestions :

As for second batch interview.. I didn’t know they don’t follow your groups as in the registration board.. As long as you arrive early, you can just go in and complete your interview. (I was kinda silly for sitting from 8am+ to 10.45am at the lobby -.-!)

p/s : I don’t remember much on what I’ve crapped in the interview room, lol.
Oh yea, I did say in Recom that I applied for Korea, but in my temu duga letter, it was written Jepun.. well.. I said I wanted Jepun(the interviewers didn't say anything about me choosing Korea) hmmm.. I guessed.. I clicked wrongly when I sent in my application?? They didn't ask me much about Japan though...

Uh, the interviewers didn't ask about who's the JPA head/who's the agung and funny funny questions. I guessed my panel are lucky to have good interviewers!

Well, that's all I can contribute to Recom for now =/
Rate me someone, cause I still think I did struggle while talking off and on. :cry

*cross fingers*

Good luck for all of us, and go go go, gambateh!

Hey Recommers, I've just officially registered as a member eventhough I checked out this site for information for a really long time..Sorry for the delay, hope it still helps for future aplicants!

Venue : Putrajaya
Time : 8.00 am
Attire : FORMAL !!

So, basically I reached the place at 7.30 am, not wanting to be late. Its important that you are early because anything can happen. You do not want to get caught up later if you decide to be 'fashionably' late.

This is how it works. There's 15 panels for each session ( morning/noon ) and 25 people ( applicants ) for each panel. There, you are divided into 5 groups based on your number in the panel list. Lucky me, I was no. 25 in my list so there you go, GROUP 5 !

I waited for about 4 hours ++ as each group takes about 45 mins minimum. ( note: its never a good thing to be in the last group cause you'll get so nervous looking at dejected/overly happy faces walikng out through the door )

A good tip, if you have time to kill ( like me ) head to the cafetaria. it'll calm you down a bit..

Okay, so finally it was my turn ( FINALLY!! ) and we went inside the sound-proof room to see 3 interviewers seated at the the table. Don't be nervous when you see then. first impressions are crucial here!
There were 2 parts, Introduction ( bm ) and Discussion ( eng ).
I was no 5 so I was the last to introduce myself.. NOTE : Do not overly boast your achievements and watch the amount of time you speak. Allow space for the interviewers to speak as well. And do be alert, they can 'shoot' anyone at the same time so you DO NOT want to be daydreaming. :D

We were then given a few minutes to discuss on our topic Expectations after graduating and before starting as a doctor . After everyone has present their topic, they will then randomly start shooting people.

Please do take note that you have to really know the course and where you want to study and why. They will keep shooting you on that. They merely want to see your confidence when you speak regardless if its right or wrong ( but please don't crap too much as well )

My group consists of 5 ppl and there were 3 engineering , 1 medicine & 1 economics , ok we went in and greet them and take a seat when they ask us to , and we starting to introduce ourslf in BM ( name , school , family background , course applied & country chose ) , after tat we were given a topic in both BM & English to discuss : " sebab2 penderaan kanak2 & try to define the meaning of alternative energy source and why we nid to use tat ? " We were not given a few minutes to jot down our points and we jz shooting out wad we had in mind after a few seconds the topics were given by 1 of the interviewer . We were requested to giv a conclusion about the topic after a few minutes of talking . And after tat the interview was over and we shake hands with the interviewers .

P/S : there was no Q&A section and they not even asking why we choose this course and why we chose this or tat country , nth was asked about our course and tats why our interview was the shortest @<hidden>@<hidden>" well is it a good or bad sign for being fast ? =D

I'm the latest to post my interview experience, sorry!:P Anyways, for future reference...

Place: PICC
Time: 4pm
Attire: I wore a Punjabi suit.
Group: 5 ppl (2 Indian girls,2 Chinese boys,1 Chinese girl)

Well, my interviewers were 3 Malay men. They had the smiley-kind faces so we calmed down a bit. My group members- 4 of them were applying for med, the other one was applying for pharmacy.

1. Introduction (ENGLISH)
I was the 2nd to introduce myself (name,family,co-cu,reasons I chose med) and they like to ask a lot of questions, sometimes they ask funny questions (like the girl before was asked why her parents only had 2 children and not more, lmao). Anyways for me, they asked me why I chose med, and I gave my reason and told them my family was against it because it was a stressful job,etc..and they were like, 'we agree with your parents! Don't get into med!' Then the guy asked me what I'd do if I failed. I said my hopes of becoming a doctor would be buried, he said you do know you'll have to pay back right? I was shocked, cos I didn't know! :notrust Embarassing, then he said 'Haha, you're scared right now? So you're gonna switch your option? I said no.:P They didn't ask me about the course/country of choice/uni/general medical stuff.

2. Q&A (BM)
There was no discussion for us. we each had one question and we had to give our opinions on it. I got 'Sekarang doktor-doktor boleh beri prescription dan pesakit boleh beli ubat-ubatan dari farmasi. Apa pandangan anda? The other guys in my group got 'Medico-tourism, Klinik 1Malaysia, Sumbangan anda kepada negara and one more, I forgot. as for my question, after I had given and elaborated on 2 points, he kept saying 'lagi?' He was obviously looking for a specific answer, but I couldn't really think of anything lese, then he said...'Kalau doktor bagi prescription saja, dia takkan dapat duit untuk ubat! Farmasi akan dapat!' Everybody was laughing, so I did too, but honestly, even if I had thought of that, I wouldn't really have said it, cos I didn't want to come across as a greedy person....*shrug*

Overall, the interview didn't really feel like an interview, it was more of a discussion, cos they were not really garang or made any faces or were intimidating us at all. Although PICC is one heck of an intimidating place, that's for sure.:oh

I also noticed that they tried to make us talk, even those who didn't have points. Like, this girl had no clue about Klinik 1Malaysia, she said she knew only about 1Malaysia, the interviewers were like, "OK, apa yang anda tahu tentang 1 Malaysia" They were really cool and funny. And I wasn't nervous in the room at all.

I dunno what my chances are, I just hope that this isn't some kind of eye wash! Just hoping for the best. Good luck to future interviewees!:)

JPA interview 2010

6.00 am Woke up.

6.30 am Fetched Jian Cheng.

7.00 am Reached destination.

7.15 am Just a few souls wandering around.

7.30 am Settled down on a small ... table ? with mum and bro, went thru the short notes again.

7.45 am Went to look for my name, Panel 5, dropped my signature. : )

7: 47 am Met up with some friends, Grace, Wigo, Jethro, Joseph, Yan Ning, Hur Thong, Khai Yin, Ying Kai, etc. (According to them, my faced looked tense/stress, real pale. lol)

7.55am Getting more and more crowded as students and parents all stand around the front door

8.00am Handed in my clear folder at the table in front of the bilik.

8.01am Waiting waiting waiting...

8.10am My name was called and I was given a tag with the number 4. Pinned it on.

8.12am The clerk opened the doors for us, we walked in. ( I was the only one who knocked on the door.)

8.14am Our turn ! Managed to force out a smile. Well I hope it was a smile. Too nervous.

8.14am - 9.30am ( 1 hour plus , i think our group was the only group that took so long )

"Good morning."

The interviewers intro-ed themselves, there were 3 interviewers, in my panel, 2 Malays and one Indian, one Doc.

"Yes, selamat pagi. Kita akan mulakan sesi temu duga kita, sila perkenalkan diri kamu ." Said the first interviewer who was a Malay, the doc. (i think she's the Ketua.)

We replied one by one starting from the Indian girl on the right. She intro-ed herself in BM, Pengawas, Kadet Bomba, debator, etc.

BUT ,Idc.

I was like so omgwtfwth nervous. Small-Deers-Simply-Crashing situation in my heart. xDD
Lol, i cant imagine how ugly my face looked like. :/

Next, YingKai answered in BI, next, in BI too. Woots. I sorta talked to myself...

" Wey, i thought should answer in BM when the interviewers asked in BM ? "

" Yeala, but why are they answering in BI ? "

" Aiyahh, go for BM ! "

*Intro-ed myself*

The best part of my interview was, there were NO group discussions. Oh hell yea ! ;-) The interviewers just called on our names one by one, and finish asking the questions on that person then ONLY proceed to the next person.

Apparently i was the LAST ONE. :(
(But it's lucky to be the last one too, you have time to breathe, to think, to jot down whatever that's on your mind)

The first one was , the Indian boy sitting next to me. He's taking Biotechnology , if i'm not mistaken. Well, in the introduction part, he told the panel that , he's in the olahraga team, and bla bla bla state champion apa apa apa, lol , here comes the exciting part...

Interviewer : Kamu sangat aktif dalam sukan, kan ? Bagaimana kamu nak meningkatkan imej negara apabila kamu sedang melanjutkan pelajaran di luar negara ?

He took a couple of seconds to react. 5 of us got stunned. Lmao. ( I felt relieved, cuz it wasn't me who have to answer that tough question.)
And so he talked about Datuk Lee Chong Wei, bla bla bla, etc.

Interviewer : If you're the ambassador of Malaysia, how would you promote our country ?
AGAIN, 5 of us got stunned.

NEXT,

... the Indian girl. She's taking LAW.
The question goes like this :

- What do you think of Malaysia's Law ?
(Lmao, i was like O.O" when she asked that, but she managed to bombard a lot on Sejarah -.- , what to do ? she's a debator, her english, no joke, is good, real good. )

- How to balance student lifestyle ? homework and co curricular activities, in BM.
(She couldn't talk well in BM, and she kept on saying "LIKE", i think she used it for like 50 over times, no kidding. @<hidden>@<hidden> And she was like kept campur english words then she was then warned by the ketua, IN ENGLISH PLEASE)

NEXT, Ying Kai.
I wasn't paying much attention at tat time, i was busy jotting down what's on my mind.

NEXT, a girl from Penang Chinese Girls' High School.
She talked softly. The topic given was " Children nowadays are spoilt, do you agree ? "

NEXT, Ong Bo Lie. ;-)

" Kamu ambil ... "

" German Engineering." *smile 1*

" Ooh, kenapa nak pergi German ? "

" Institusi pendidikan di German menawarkan program-program yang boleh dianggap sbg yang terbaik di seluruh dunia, terutamanya dalam bidang KEJURUTERAAN. Universiti di Jerman juga mewajibkan mahasiswa mereka menjalankan praktikal, "develope" mereka punya soft skills."

" Hmm, How would you change the world using your skills you learnt later on in engineering courses ? "

" Well , i'm kinda into Environmental and Water Technology. As you can see, the world now is terribly polluted. Global warmings, green house effects, etc. I would bla bla bla ... "

" Who inspired you ? Who was your role model ? "

" My dad. BLa bla bla ... I went to work, bla bla ... " Lol, PIG FARM, remember ? xD But i didnt mention PIG farm cuz there are 2 Muslims there. @<hidden>@<hidden>

"What's global warming? " " How to solve it ? "

*spammed SPM essays points*. ;-) *smile2*

CLIMAXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

The Indian interviewer : " You live in Pulau Pinang right ? " * flipping thru my infos*

" Yeap" *after 4 seconds* " Err, sorry nope, in Bukit Mertajam. " *smile3*

She laughed. -.- i didnt mean to make fun of anything, i wasn't joking. lol.

" Bukit Mertajam is part of Pulau Pinang." *she smiled at me*

" OOPS, haha." *smile4*

" So... who's the Ketua Menteri of Pulau Pinang ? "

O________________________________O"
Waliew walao omg omg omg.
Sad to say, i was stunned , hanging at there for like 5 seconds.
I wanted to say Lim Guan Eng but i'm not sure about this.

THEN THEN THEN,
suddenly the girl (PCGHS) said soooo softly that i can hardly listen.

" Lim Guan Eng ... "

Then i straight away said " Lim Guan Eng " LOUDLY. lol.

the interviewer : " What took you so long ? You're not confirmed with your answer ? "

I answered nth but smiled. *smile5*

Ketua : " Okay, terima kasih bla bla bla... selamat maju... "

i was like, WOW, NO GROUP DISCUSSIONS WEY ! XDDDDDDDDD

So we shook hands, thanked them and walked out of the room with a BIG smile. ;-) *smile6*

They didn't really "shoot" us that badly. We managed to survive unscathed.

-END-

Note: The above experience happened in a blink of an eye. I'm trying hard to recall what had actually happened. The above story told might not be 100% true.

Ahhh!!! I hope I'll get it. *fingers crossed*

Rating? I don't know. Can someone rate me?

Advice: Don't give lengthy answers but answers that actually means something. Does that make sense? It's not how much words you say but the message that you're trying to convey.

GOOD LUCK!

p/s : Lol, Lim Guan Eng ah Lim Guan Eng. : P

:ohnope.... you have to do it yourself... just do a simple and relevant explanation about yourself is enough...... the interviewers might get bored if your introduction is too long and irrelevant.... and do introduce yourself in a 'proud way' even if your result and qualification is good

Tell them something interesting about yourself, something that makes you stand out from the crowd and helps them to remember you, so that you won;t be another name in a long list of interviewees. But keep it brief and simple, and don't add things that people don't care about, or you'll bore the interviewers.

I can't get my school authorities cop or signature as my school is in Johor while I am residing in Selangor. I can't go there and back b4 the interview. So all my paperwork including brg pengesahan pendapatan is not verified. Can i explain this to the JPA guys?

I love this thread so much! Really saved my life in my preparation. I'm going for the interview on Tuesday! Pharmacy :nuts

A few questions,
#1 Is it necessary to wear baju kurung for girls? Or any formal attire will do? #2 Is it like okay to reveal that I'm currently in college already? I would think that this info will give the impression that if one can afford college, that this scholarship is not necessary.

All the best to everyone out there!!

Any formal attire will do. And you probably shouldn't lie during the interview, in case if they catch you lying, which would leave a very bad impression. Just tell the truth. You should do fine.

I believe for my interview, they did specify the criteria for the introduction. However, to be on the safe side, just keep in mind the basic criteria for your intro.

can tell what are the basics??

Maybe you can tell them how many siblings you have, and your parents occupations. Don't think they are interested in your co-curricular activities. Everything is in your certs, and by the time the interview begins, each interviewer would have stack of your photocopied certs and results in front of them.

Err...a question here. Are we suppose to prepare 2 borang pengesahan pendapatan? because its written in both 3.1 and 3.2

8.00am
7th of April 2010

All the best to everyone out there!!

hey! im going to the interview on Tuesday for pharmacy too! :D
what time is your interview?
