2 Aug will mark the beginning of the end of my 4-year journey in NUS in Singapore. One of the things that I am looking forward to is the SEP. I have always wanted to experience different cultures and lifestyles. Undeniably, I feel more than glad to be able to gain admission to NUS. But, on the other hand, I really hope that I will be able to participate in SEP.

The question here is where should I go? What university should I opt for? Whether or not you guys were once an exchanged student, your views are very much welcome. Moreover, since Recom is a Malaysian Students Network, which networks Malaysian students from all around the world, be it US, UK, Aus, NZ, Japan, or Germany, this is the best place I can get the accurate accounts.

For your info, I will take civil engineering course. As far as I am concerned, UC Berkeley in US is one of the best unis for this course. But, frankly, UK is on top of my list. Anyway, I am more than glad to read any view from anyone regardless of where you are from.

Thank you.

If you are not in a hurry to graduate, go to Japan or Germany. You can learn an extra language.

Will definitely be an asset later.

Lots of Malaysian students in both these countries. We'll definitely be glad to help.

P.S. I'm in Germany.

I would discount Australia or New Zealand from your list.
I don't think you would be better off here in terms of your studies compared to esp. the US uni.s like Berkeley.

Unless you like life over here, then by all means come.

In terms of studies, especially civil engineering, I think Singapore outranks Australia and New Zealand. And, I totally agree with The_Observer that it will be better to go to US in that sense.

Besides considering the cultures and lifestyles that I may experience in a country, the ranking of a particular uni in civil engineering course is not to be ignored as well.

I have been to Melbourne once to attend my bro's graduation in 2000. I like the place there, in fact. But, I am not sure how the passage of time has changed Melb. Having been to Melb, perhaps, I should go to a place which I have never been to before. Anyway, I do not mind going to Melb again on holidays, but on exchange, I have to ponder over it at a considerable length.

I have yet to begin my first year. But it is harmless if I start planning right away. If I am selected by the faculty, then, I may leave for my chosen uni in Year 3.

Keep your fingers crossed for me.
