Searched around for similar threads and didn't find any. Check. :wink
I've got this fun idea: Why not we share our very first day (or week) of your attended pre-u,(or U if you got the offer) whether recently or few years past (as much as you can remember). Not only can we get to know each other better, but can also offer some background to upcoming SPM graduates to alleviate their worries=) What do you think?
Here's a suggested format for easy searching:
Pre-U course/U course:
Science or Arts foundation?:
Name of college/university/school(if you want privacy on the school name, just state the city):
Experience:
Since this experience is still very fresh for me I'll start=)
Pre-U course/U course: Form 6
Science or Arts foundation?: Science switching to arts
Name of college/university/school(if you want privacy on the school name, just state the city): Puchong
I was pretty nervous today when coming back to my school to register for form 6. Knowing that many of my friends opted for private studies I was like "oh gosh, I'm gonna be here alone" but felt very surprised when I met around 6 of my former schoolmates also there to register. I felt so relieved when I saw them:amuse
First we were required to register, the teachers checked our documents and we paid some miscellaneous fees. Then, there was a official 'majlis perasmian' with speeches and etc. Then we gathered in the closed hall of our school to play some icebreakers organized by the seniors (aka Upper Sixers). They, well, did a good job in helping all of us, who came from different schools, mix around more and get to know each other better. Well it's only day 1, there's a lot to come in the next week.
I'm given 2 weeks to decide if I want to change stream(my teacher told me not to rush it)...the seniors were pretty helpful and kind...if I'll be leaving, I think I'll miss them and the new friends that I'll be making in the next month...:oh I've got to miss tomorrow's activities for my 3rd try for the on the road driving test...well that's all from me.
What's your story?

Thanks for your story, CelineD :))
I shall start mine now... hehee
Pre-U course/U course: Form 6
Science or Arts foundation?: Science [Physics]
Name of college/university/school : Penang Free School
Uhm, how should I put it..
First thing that happened was everyone has to go to the field for spot check under the hot sun :(
Checking uniform, nails, hair(for the ones dyed), socks, earrings.. (physical spot check)
-- Those who didn't pass the spot check are supposed to go home, like the ones dyed their hair must dye it back in black colour and return tomorrow.
Then only we are allowed to register ourselves according to our respective previous schools booth.
We're given forms for what subject we want to choose, by tomorrow we have to pass it up and by friday we will know our respective classes.
and then the ceremony of "Perasmian Tingkatan 6 Bawah" started with a speech from the HM, followed by the PK HEM.
Then some speech from a BM Teacher, talking about the BM paper..
And then we learnt the school song with a music teacher with the piano.
Well tomorrow we will meet all our subject teachers :nod
This whole week will be orientation week, classes only will start next week. :amuse
And we're gonna tour around the school! hahaha.
How great, 7.30am to 2.40pm with breaks 10.50am to 11.15am and another one at 1.10pm to 1.35pm.
Overall, its okay.. I have been talking nonstop with my friend, heee. I don't know whether wanna transfer school or not cause all the paper work and also need to wait like a month for everything to be done, and by that time I think I will be used to the school already.. :oh
Anyone with other stories?? ^^

Thanks, leolsq for sharing your story=)
Wow, your school has a piano? In our school they'll play the recording over and over again until we get it, but for me it's ok. After all, as an ex-student I kinda know the song by heart already...:wink(unintentional pride. Sorry!)
anyone else?
Really, you don't have to share as long as me...sorry if I've been intimidating:amuse

Good thread. :)
I'll include my experiences in both Pre-U and university orientation but since I'm in my second year of university now, details may be a bit sketchy.
Pre-U Course: Australian Matriculation (AusMat)
Science or Art: There's no real distinction between either in my course as we were free to choose whatever subjects. However, all of my subjects were science so science stream, I guess.
Institution: Sunway University College
As with everyone else, I was pretty darn nervous during orientation. This was further compounded by the fact that I had no friends whatsoever during my first day since most of my classmates opted for Taylors College instead.
Orientation began pretty smoothly with the standard welcoming speech. We were warmly greeted by the staff and a video produced by last year's batch of students was shown. That set the tone very nicely for the rest of the day. A meet-and-greet session with the seniors was also held and this allowed the lost souls (us) to clear any lingering doubts.
We then proceeded to rooms for a simple maths/English test so that the very weak students could be offered additional subject and course advice.
After that, it was pretty chaotic because we were supposed to pick our subjects and class times (timetables were self-arranged, university-style). As expected, the queues were MASSIVE and everyone was a bit jittery. :P BUT, this was an excellent opportunity to meet new people and from this mad, subject-enrollment rush, I made my first new friends.
In general, it was pretty exciting yet distressing at the same time. :)
And now, for university details:
Course: Medicine.
Institution: University of Western Australia.
University orientation was a lot more well done. Instead of being compressed in a day or two, orientation lasted for over a week.
There were two welcoming sessions; one for international students in particular and one for the general student population.
After that, there was an intimate meet-and-greet lunch session between the 25 international medical students and the staff. Great fun and we had ample opportunities to mingle with the crowd and meet new friends.
There was also a barbecue held by seniors to welcome us. The mentor-mentee system was used and each junior was partnered with a senior so that ties between graduating classes could be fostered.
And yes, the university was kind enough to organize free trips for international students to the nearby port-town of Freemantle. It was good fun; nobody in the bus knew each other during the journey there but on the journey back, everybody on the bus was acquanted and happily chattering away.
Basically;
university orientation> college orientation.

The 1st day was BORING. :notrust
We just registered our names and listened to several talks pertaining to subjects to be taken in STPM, school rules, time management for f6, co-curricular activities etc. I sat in the auditorium for like hours, so i guess my body's blood circulation must be bad during the whole session. :nuts
Today's the 2nd day, and we haven't started our lesson. Same thing today, BORING TALKS. However, after recess we went for registration for co-curricular activities and also, the election of the sixth form society's committees. It was nice, coz I was voted. LOL
Tomorrow onwards we will start our lesson. Sadly, I need to attend the science classes 1st while waiting for the approval from JPN to switch to art stream. And they will start inspecting hair lengths, nails etc by tomorrow. Anyway, I am already well prepared. No worries :P
P.S. I'm trying to adapt myself to the f6 life but somehow, I keep on reminding myself that I'll have the chance to run away with scholarships. This feeling really sucks. Anyone in the same situation?

Thanks Young and Grace(you're Grace, right?:)) for contributing...
Young: Thanks to you, we get a glimpse of how Ausmat is like(for those of us who didn't opt for it, and others who plan to get into it in the future.) So, how's mixing with the Aussies like?:wink
And to Grace, I have felt the same way too. In fact much worse. before my dad let me read a blog post about pre-u myths(I bumped it recently, check'Options after Spm' in the Education section) I was very determined to not end up in f6 if I could. well you seem stuck in there, but i guess (from your description) it's the way the school organized the orientation that may lack creativity...all talk and no 'play' for now yet(I'm not flaming your school ya...just offering suggestions). Hang in there...it's only the 2nd day. Who knows, the real fun may start tomorrow? I am grateful that in my school the seniors planned the whole thing so that the ice was broken on the first day itself..Since you're on the 6th form committee why not suggest fun-er activities to break the ice?All the best to you:amuse

Pre-U course/U course: Form 6
Science or Arts stream: Science (Physics)
Name of college/university/school: SMK Seri Serdang, Seri Kembangan, Selangor
Hey everyone, I have just registered for Form 6 in SMK Seri Serdang yesterday, which was my first day in Form 6. I would be studying there for one and a half months, before commence my A-Levels at MCKL in July intake. When i reached the school at 8.15am, I saw some Form 6 students were already there sitting on the chairs, and waited till 9am. By the time, the Upper 6 students told us to go register at the tables according to the previous schools respectively. When I reached the table, the teacher asked about my school and commanded me to show her the SPM result, and she was like "Oh okay! You can straight away go to the table for Class 6 Setia Bawah(Biology class) to register your name, since your result is okay. I had totally no idea and continued to register at the table, until I found out that the class is Biology class. However, I like Physics more, so I requested to change subject, which meant change class. Then, I went straight to the table for Class 6 Mulia Bawah(Physics) and registered my name.
Well, when I showed the teacher my result, once again the teacher was shocked and asked me that whether I did get Matriks or Diploma, and so I told her that I have got Diploma, but I decided to reject it due to the lack of interest in the course offered. After that, I went to another table for fees payment and I bought the Metriks card (some kind of tag for Form 6 students), which is compulsory for Form 6 students to differentiate them from the juniors. Then I asked about the payment, whether I should pay it or not. I told them that I would quit Form 6 and enter MCKL for A-Levels in July. However, the teacher said that I would still need to pay RM54.50 for the fees, since I would be using the facilities in the school. The teacher in charge of Form 6 was so nice to me, but she kept persuading me to pay the fees, and she said that it is for charity and donation to the school. -.- Nevertheless, my mom is willing to pay for it, rather than letting me keep rotting at home. (But I will try my best to delay the payment as long as possible! xP) At least I can learn something new at school, rather than spending my precious time online at home.
Well, I think the school compound is so beautiful, with the tranquil panorama and ideal environment for me to study Form 6, even for just one and a half months. Oh, and I saw quite a number of old friends too, from SMK Seri Kembangan and SMK Seri Indah. I'm really glad to meet them again, after two years of separation. Well the class has officially started today, at 7.25am!!! I can't be a nocturnal anymore, and apparently no more stay up for me until 4am! Hopefully I can enjoy myself in the new school and learn some Form 6 STPM syllabus. =) Good luck everyone!!! ^_^

Yup, I'm Grace :))
I was also in the anti-f6 group before I really looked at it with a different perspective. And alas, I am now wearing the f6's uniform. As we all know, f6 isn't that bad. Perhaps after knowing the scholarships' results, and if I really fail to get any, I'll indulge into the f6 life.
Totally, my school lacks creativity! Haha. Hmm ya, I reckon it will turn out better as time passes. Thanks a lot, I will :nod You too~ good luck

Thanks for all the useful feedback...
To the F6/Matric/certain courses who started this Monday, now you can describe your first week too, since it's over!:amuse
Any Matric/A-levels/IB/Canadian Matriculation/Diploma/Foundation (kinda long list) sharing here? To help answer (my) and potential pre-u students curiosity on these courses' first days...?

You're welcome. Well this week was pretty nice for me, and as I am in Physics class, my class have only 5 girls (3 Chinese 1 Indian 1 Malay) and others all boys! So, it was quite boring actually, if you know what I meant. :P
On the second day, it was quite bored as most of the teachers didn't came in but only my class teacher. She explained to us about the format of Pengajian Am and out of my expectation, she has gained her Master in Psychology. Then, I took my chance to ask her about my dilemma, whether to take Physics or Accounting in my A-Levels. She couldn't really give me the answers, and eventually she advised me to go to the counselling room, to seek advices from the counselling teachers. There were a few students there taking personality tests, for they want to change from the Science stream to the Arts stream. Finally, after everything else was over, I still sticked to my initial choice and not to change to Arts Stream - I would be taking Physics instead of Accounting. :)
On the third day, the orientation started and it was rather bored with various welcoming speeches by the administration board. After the speeches ended, the counselling teacher gave us a talk regarding the relation between the packages of subjects offered in the school and the courses offered in the local public universities. Some personalities tests were given after the talk and oh well, I think I knew myself quite well. :laugh
On the forth day, the orientation continued and an Explore Race was organised to entertain the Lower 6 students, as well as to bond friendship between the group members. I was elected as the group leader; And I was quite happy for being able to lead the members, try my best to ace the challenges faced by my group, and eventually try out the traditional games in Malaysia such as Batu Seremban, Gasing, Bulu tangkis, etc. It was fun and great experience for me, and all of us enjoyed it immeasurably. Finally, orientation ended on that day. Thanks to teachers and Upper 6 students, we enjoyed it a lot! :)
Today, my class started officially and I got to know my Physics and Maths T teachers. Well, today all the teachers didn't start to teach us, but merely chatting with the students, and I was sitting at the front row. I asked about the qualification of my Maths T teacher, and expectedly he is a degree holder of Bachelor in Science (Mathematics) from Malaya University(UM). He then asked me about my ambition, and he was surprised with it and asked about my result, my future plan and pathways. Later after the recess, I went back to the class and my Pengajian Am teacher was already inside the class. She didn't really teach much, but she was really nice and chatted a lot too. Suddenly, she want to choose the class monitor since my class still didn't have the leader. Nobody want to be the volunteer, and unexpectedly teacher chose me as the class monitor. Oh gosh! How could I be the class monitor since I would be only there for one and a half months? Nevertheless, after my friends persuaded me that I am qualified to be the class monitor even for only the limited period, I have to accept it eventually. Hopefully I can do my best in my part time job as the class monitor of the Physics class! :)

Hi guys, allow me to share about my first week and 2 days in. This includes the "counseling session" that's mandatory for anyone who wishes to change from Science to Arts in f6...=)
The first week: Orientation (and "mild torture")week. A quick recap: We played crazy icebreakers and games, danced and sang, did the "Chicken Dance" daily. We were asked to sing, dance, get everyone's phone numbers, give seniors massage to get signatures...but all in all it was fun! ;)
In week 2: I actually got to know many new friends yesterday and today, since we were all "settled down" much more now=) Got to know all the subject teachers...all of them were quite nice..hope that the same goes for the new school that I may be transferring into...
Today was the counseling session. It's a standard procedure for anyone who's changing stream so that whoever who wants to do sure does it for reasons that are strong and less likely to regret. I was given some inventories to fill up, then the counselor had a chat with us about the results. I passed (,meaning that the test results showed that I was more suited in arts than science)and so my change is now waiting approval from JPN (I think) along with a letter of recommendation from the counselor=)
have a nice day~
