Once again congratulation to those of you who are selected for the government scholarship. I know you guys are pretty excited right now. Haha...
However, when it comes to the enrolment process into your respective preU college, it can be very daunting. Not to mention when it's the first time you hear about the college you are going to, especially INTEC, which is very less known by general people out there :P
This thread is created with the purpose to answer all your queries you have regarding the enrolment process, form filling (when you get it later on), college life and anything about INTEC. It also serves as a platform for you guys to meet each other and discuss various issues regarding your future preU study at INTEC. Of course, you can always refer to the relevant sections in Recom Wiki before that. If you query is not answered there, feel free to ask here.
Oh btw, I was a previous AUSMAT student in INTEC. Currently is studying Pharmacy in Australia. Therefore, there are certain limitations in terms of my capability to answer questions related to other preU course like A level and ADFP. But I am sure there are many seniors in ReCom who would be able to help you out with those.
Last but not least, for all of you who are going to embark on your journey in INTEC later on, welcome on board and all the best to your study later on :))

*Shameless self-plugging.* Do check out the ReCom Wiki article on Cemara and Akasia (http://www.recom.org/wiki/Cemara_and_Akasia) before asking questions here in this thread.
Changed title of the thread. This thread shall be used to ask questions and provide answers for students who are going to INTEC in July. Unnecessary posts like "Who else is going to join the same course as me?" and questions which was answered before in the thread will be removed without notice.
As a courtesy to the others, I request that you also add information which is not in the wiki before to the article. It will go a long long way in keeping this forum clean, and all information easily accessible to the others

Hi.
AUSMAT (at INTEC) is equivalent to SAM in Taylor's/INTI. It's by the SACE board, and it's the South Australian Year 12 syllabus.
For more info on the AUSMAT Programme, you can visit the AUSMAT/SAM thread here (http://www.recom.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5217) (remember you're looking at the SOUTH AUSTRALIAN programme, not the western australia AUSMAT (that's in sunway/KBU))
Yes RunningHorse is studying at Australia, and she has yet to graduate.
Which university you attend will basically depend on your results, and where your sponsor posts you to.
If you meet the min requirements for TER and IELTS by the universities, you can choose from the list of recognised unis (via the agent - IDP). At the end of it all, once you get your results, your sponsor will assign the uni that you will go to. Most of the time you will get your choice (if I'm not mistaken, you can select up to 8 unis in the order of preference) and you will most likely get your first choice.
If not - you will be assigned a uni.
But all unis are good, just depends on where the unis are - and which one suits your lifestyle =)

Pardon my intrusion but can you please not use SMS language?
It pains me to see the English language being violated in this manner... And it pains me even more to know that the culprit is a scholar and soon-to-be an ambassador for all Malaysian students. :notrust

Hey junior,
I'm studying the same course and country as u
the syllabus will be totally the same as those australia's bound
AUSMAT students are all taking the similar tests under SACE board
Why u wnt to change country??
New Zealand is best for its study environment and tranquil atmosphere
We all noe that thr is only one uni that will accept international students pursuing pharmac degree...but take it easy, dun ever compare to any other countries...it is always the best if we look at the positive side of it

Wow! That's lot of questions posted to me at one time. I can see you are excited about your future study :amuse
Basically ayja has answered you most of the questions on my behalf so I guess I dont have to repeat them again. But there's one thing I would like to correct here. At the end of AUSMAT before final exam, all Australia bound students are required to submit a preference list of 3 universities to IDP (the education agent JPA uses to assist in the application process into Australia universities). What I heard is that (not sure whether it is true) if your final result is great, your sponsor will allocate you to your first choice university.
For pharmacy to Australia, there are a total of 6 universities offering this course: University of Sydney, University of Queensland, Monash University, Curtin University of Technology, University of South Australia and University of Tasmania. I am currently in Curtin University of Technology :))
If you have further questions, feel free to send me private messages or you can also post it up here so that all of you can discuss it together.

Anyway, I've read the Recom Wiki About Intec and was stunned by the dress codes. I'm just wondering if the dress code is really strict? (Especially the rule where your top must cover your butt O_O)

hi i just received an offer letter for A levels in intec. i am pursuing medicine. so i was wondering if anybody could tell me how is life there? what is the toughness level of the A level syllabus?
Renpei

There are three main branches doing Edexcel Alevel medicine in INtec:
If you are IMU bound student: you take Bio, Math&Stat and CHem
If you are PMC bound student: you take Phy, Bio and CHem
If you are MMMC bound student: you take Bio, MAth&Stat and Chem
Side papers are english and ethics study
Bio is consider quite tough cause it isn't look like SPM bio at all, u dnt memorise evrything and "regurgitate" in exam. The syllabus will focus more on applications.
Erm.. for those that are PMC bound they are having problem with PHY, most of them get grade B only. :(
For the other subjects, still ok.. what u need to do is to read the textbooks provided and go through some past year.. that's all

What about Medicine in New Zealand? Is it very competitive to gain admission in comparison with the Australia's university?

What about Medicine in New Zealand? Is it very competitive to gain admission in comparison with the Australia's university?
I'm not entirely sure about exactly how competitive Medicine in New Zealand is because I'm studying in Australia, but I'll try.
Medicine in NZ is a bit different because you enter university as a first year Health Science student and then, upon sufficiently high academic performance, enter medicine in the second year. In Australia, you enter straight from AusMat.
The good news is; the AusMat entry requirements into Year 1 Health Science is probably a lot lower than entry into undergraduate medicine in Australia.
The bad new, however, means that you'll be competing with other university students for entry; not just those who are keen on entering medicine but also for other courses like Pharmacy and Dentistry. There will be a larger emphasis on your university performance as it will ultimately determine whether you will be admitted into Medicine in second year or be relegated to another health-related course.
I think you'll also need to take either the ISAT or UMAT admission test. I'm not sure if there's an interview requirement for NZ medicine. Perhaps a medical student from NZ can fill up my gaps in knowledge.
Hope that helped.

hi i just received an offer letter for A levels in intec. i am pursuing medicine. so i was wondering if anybody could tell me how is life there? what is the toughness level of the A level syllabus?
Hi there. Glad to know you're headed here. I'm your super senior, so I'm leaving soon. Going through A levels now.
Well, life is definitely independence here, except for the few rules that the college imposes to keep us back in the hostels by 11pm and clothes. Other than that, you're gonna be on your own.
It's a great time, trust me. Make friends, and explore. I would say that the best part of INTEC was meeting people from all over Malaysia, learning to tolerate each other and build lifelong relationships, and a gathering called Campus Alive. For medicine, remember that these are your future colleagues. ; )
There is a lot of time actually. And ample holidays. So don't stress out on your exams. In fact, the last semester, the fourth, is very very free. You'll have enough time to review everything before your exams. And the A-levels are very stretched apart. 2 or 3 papers a day.
I'm also going to INTEC for AUSMAT this July, looking forward to meet you guys there!
Anyway, I've read the Recom Wiki About Intec and was stunned by the dress codes. I'm just wondering if the dress code is really strict? (Especially the rule where your top must cover your butt O_O)
Haha no your top does not have to cover your butt (strictly). But if you're gonna show your waistline, I think it's a no-no too.
Yes the dress codes are implemented VERY strictly, especially for girls. I'm sad to say that on the HOT and SWEATY days, you'll still have to wear long sleeves. But I'd recommend a cardigan, something to just wear first, later you can take it off once you're out of the gate (if you're headed out to the movies or wherever). It's the guards you want to watch out for. In INTEC itself, you should wear your cardigan too.

is it correct to assume then that we are not guaranteed a place to study medicine even if we have entered the uni in NZ as first year students ( sorry, i know its unrelated to topic )
Would anyone care to explain the structure of the Ausmat programme in INTEC ? eg. the syllabus etc. thanks !

Yes, you are correct. Entry into first year health science in NZ does not guarantee you a pathway into medicine.
For your second question, I'd recommend browsing through the numerous posts of ReCom on this topic or Googling it.
To start you off, AusMat at INTEC is actually the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). AusMat is just a misleading name adpoted by Malaysians to refer to all Australian Pre-University programmes.

There are actually 2 unis offering medicine.
One is Uni Otago, and the other is Uni Auckland.
Most of what Young said pretty much explains the programme briefly.
But there will be an interview for both unis, and there will be written exams for Uni Otago as well (essay writing, if I'm not mistaken).
The entry requirement is around TER96 if I'm not mistaken?
Don't be discouraged. The way to do well for SAM is just work smart. Don't push yourself, cause that won't do you too much good.

for the first semester you will take bio, phy, chem, maths, and 2 english subjects, esls and ielts. owh, and everyone who studies in intec has to sit for the ethics paper. entering the second semester, you have the choice whether to continue taking phy or opt for specialist maths. mostly those going to do medicine related course will go for physics.

Pardon me though, Im still pretty clueless about this whole pre-U programmes, especially in my case whereby the offer letter stated "Program Persediaan Rusia" and not A level.
Can you enlighten me with whats the content of the 'program'? (as in whats the subjects will I be taking in comparison with the A level)
Oh yeah, are there any sort of theft cases or something recently? :)
Thank you. :)

about the theft part, yes, there are a few cases of break in. happened quite frequently until they sought help from RELA. so keep your belongings properly and always lock your doors and NEVER leave your laptop outside in the living room even if you've locked your main door. there's a higher tendency for it to be stolen as somehow it seems like the thieves have "sixth sense" if someone left their laptops outside.

1. Yes, very strict, especially for the girls. You wear Baju Kurungs on Mondays and Fridays and no other options. For other days, you can wear long sleeved t-shirts with jeans/pants...
2. Yes it is, I would prefer to say that it is one of the branches or faculties of UiTM.

Your course is a short preparation study. It is not A level, more like a foundation programme for me. But you will still have final exam at the end of study.

Let me answer ur questions
The scholarship does not include any book allowances. If thr is any amendment this year, u cn always refer to the perjanjian that will be sent to u for the coming weeks
U dun hav to worry too much about the books. Seniors including me will help u along the way. U cn also get photocopied books frm certain bookshops near shah alam. Seniors will inform u when u enrol into intec
U cn always buy the books frm the seniors
About the prices, i cnt giv u an exact answer but most seniors will sell their books wif notes and pass-year papers fr all subjects over rm100. No worries
I was quite shocked that jpa is offering medicine course fr students to nz
Fr my year, nobody has secured medicine course in nz and most of them bound to twinning program and others. The main reason would be my seniors who encountered problems in getting admission into uni of auckland for medicine due to the limited places and strict interview. The only choice left is uni of otago. However, the interview of otago oso posed the same prob to them as they hav to get high TER score and pass the interview wif flying colours.
So this year, high expectation is on the way fr those who will study medicine in nz. Life would nt be easy. U hav to strive even harder in AUSMAT to get wonderful results...

university of otago is the only uni that offers pharmacy course for international students, right?

Haha...I post two posts at one time and they merge together. The medicine in nz refers to someome else.
Yes. Uni of otago is the only uni that offers pharm fr international students. In actual fact, jpa has quota of its scholars in uni of otago. U juz hav to pass the interview and score satisfactory TER.
Thr were cases whr seniors did nt get offer letters frm the uni and the last resort was to apply local uni which is twinning in IMU (most common one) or UIA (Uni of Islam Antarabangsa). This is bcoz AUSMAT results cn only be recognised by certain private colleges and uni but nt the local uni

of course intec is nice. except for the fact that everyday u will pass one or two pak guard looking at you from top to toe..haha..but that doesnt affect anything.u can bring your car here. you can even drive to intec. of course, you cannot drive INTO intec or cendana. so it's under your own risk.food food food. as i know, there is only one mamak at cendana. while for intec, you will have ALM, AUSMAT as well as ADFP cafe. i don't want to criticize much, but just want to say that ALM cafe is the OK-iest cafe in INTEC. we are currently receiving rm 430 one month and you only have to pay at the beginning of each sem. other than that, your food..that's basically what you will have to pay for.so you are doing Ausmat?

the dress code for guys isnt really strict anyway. hair dying is so far ok. pak guard scolds ppl unexpectedly. i duno bout akasia .... cendana food is very low in variety, there's only a few stalls and a mamak restaurant which is expensive. A car would really be useful for a cendana student to leave section 6, haha.

Regarding the questions about bachelor and master of pharmacy,
In uni of otago, the course name is juz pharm course, diff compared to other private medical colleges. 4 years of study after 1.5 yrs in intec
Whn u reach the third sem, u r going to face the interview and writing test which will determine whether u pass the first step or not. Later then, ur results in ausmat will be the second benchmark whether u secure a place in that uni or not.

AUSMAT seniors under JPA scholarship bound for Australia,
Do you get to choose which university in Australia to go to? Or does JPA choose for you?
ques. how do they assign the rooms?
Last year, it was like this. We registered for kolej (a term for our hostel) two by two. And the person who sat next to us and registered with us, became our roommate. And they assigned the rooms randomly. I'm not sure about this year though.

Hey there! Next sem the Kolej Cemara Akasia office will reshuffle our hostels, even the seniors so there may be a change somewhere in the system, who knows?
However, it is a norm for female seniors to be placed in Cemara.
The juniors will most probably be in Akasia, with blocks of apartment assigned according to program ie AUSMAT, ALM, ADFP etc. That means you'll have neighbours of the same program. :)

Hey Annie! Nope, im not an AUSMATian, im taking ALM. But I've been living with AUSMATians for a year, because of a mistake by JPA---gave us AUSMAT in the offer letter, but turned out we were under A Level Medicine, haha!

you are MOST probably doing AUSMAT if you're bound to Australia or New Zealand. There was a mistake last year. The seniors (like Sheen) who were asked to do AUSMAT, but are doing ALM now, are to continue their degree in University of Nottingham - twinning with UK for Pharmacy.
how much should we pay for each sem? we have to pay with that rm430 per month money?
you pay, either with your own money or with the allowance that you got from JPA, less than RM200 per semester (as per last semester) to Bendahari UiTM for YURAN LAIN-LAIN. there are some other fees - like electrical appliances sticker fees (RM10 per sticker per electrical appliances per semester).
if you want to subscribe akasia/cemara wifi, you pay RM20 for registration, and then RM100 per semester.

Anyway, no irons provided in rooms.
You are provided a bed, a locker, a study table, a plastic chair per person. There's a clothes-hanging rack, balcony, kitchen, toilet, shoe rack, 2 sofas.
As mentioned, internet connection has to be subscribed. RM20 for registration fee, RM100 per semester for subscription fee. BTW, it's 5 months per semester.

Hello there! I see no one has answered your questions so I'll try to help you out. :)
Well, I'll try my best to explain this. I would say it is rather hard to secure a place in NZ for your first year. I have a friend currently studying in Sunway under JPA doing Ausmat and Medic later in NZ, he mentioned that there are only 5 places available for them and there are 16 of them altogether. Oh ya, medic universities in NZ are Uni of Auckland and Uni of Otago.
I'm not sure bout Uni of Auckland tho, but in Otago, yes you are NOT a medic student YET in the first year, you'll be taking subjects related to health sciences and you'll combine with other health sciences students (eg. dentistry and pharmacy). And then they will again assess you to see whether you can continue on to your medical degree in the 2nd year onwards.
Don't worry too much tho. Just aim for the best. I hope this helps. :)
Is the P1 connection stable in that area? Because the reputation of it is not really good.. hehe... Or should I just use Maxis broadband?? anyone can give me some good advice regarding this matter?? @<hidden>@<hidden>
Generally, students use P1 is because it can be shared, so it's cheaper. Like for Cendana guys, if you share it in your unit, you just pay about RM20 per month unlike other internet providers.
Well, I would say the service of P1 is getting relatively better but still it doesn't work when it rains (like Astro :))). I guess you should just wait till you get into your hostel and rooms and discuss this with your housemates.

i am staying in akasia now and am currently using P1 Wimax. It is ok for 4 of us and of course, it is much much cheaper compared to broadband. the only problem is when your roommate, or i would say, the ones who share the connection with you use PP Stream, you are dead. it would be so so so so slow. hihi, so find partners who do not use so much of internet...kakakakaka....:P

Haha, for some reasons, internet has becoming a necessity to the students. :P (for obvious reasons, lol)
Regarding the internet service that the college itself provided, how stable is it and how fast is the connection? Yeah, asking out of curiosity.
So, no irons, eh? Do the college provides 'iron sharing' or do we have to buy the irons ourselves? I mean, Im not that comfortable wearing 'un-iron-ed' shirts haha.

You mean in INTEC or Cendana? If Cendana, there's no internet service provided by the college. You have to subscribe to your own internet service provider (P1, Maxis, Celcom...) Wifi connection in INTEC is decent, not THAT fast tho, fast enough for you to do your assignments and stuff. Do note that all social network sites, youtube, etc. are blocked.
No, the hostels do not have such 'iron sharing' facilities. If you really need to iron your clothes, then yes, you have to buy one, maybe share it with your housemates. Another option would be to send your clothes to the nearby kedai dobi. The charges are rather reasonable and I know many guys send their clothes there every week to wash and iron.

1. this is because the a-level in INTEC is from the edexcel board, not cambridge a-level.
2. i would say it is not necessary, especially for a-level. Somemore the number of computers in library is more than enough for all the students

Bad news for ausmatians. Your classes are one of the longest after ALG in INTEC. Basically, you start at 8am every single day and end at 4pm for first sem (except fridays at 12pm), one of the days you'll end at 1pm instead. Oh ya, you don't have breaks in between except 1-2pm lunch time. :P
Sem 2 is more torturous. 4pm everyday, except for fridays again and another day till 6pm.

Sem 2 is more torturous. 4pm everyday, except for fridays again and another day till 6pm.

yaya...so how we hang the clothes?
There's a railing outside of the toilet for you to hang your clothes. But it's not large enough to fit the clothes of 6 guys. Cendana provides two clothes/towel racks (don't really know how to describe this but it's like those found at home) in the toilet area. You can hang your clothes there but it won't be sunned. What the guys usually do is shift the racks to the living room to fan it, OR move it outside of the unit. There's quite a big area there to put the racks and hang your clothes.

1. this is because the a-level in INTEC is from the edexcel board, not cambridge a-level.
2. i would say it is not necessary, especially for a-level. Somemore the number of computers in library is more than enough for all the students
so I am going to take A level medicine? what's the difference with cambridge a level? thanks for replying...

Yeah. You are right. Furthermore, Cendana is a very shady area, with lots of trees, so you don't get much sun. But it is sorta a good thing cuz its realllyyy hot these days, and cendana is rather cool during the day.
About the living room, well, if you hadn't known yet, there's a living room, two bedrooms, a toilet area (comprising a shower room and a toilet) in one unit. The living room is basically a room with 6 study desks and chairs, two shoe racks, two fans, one whiteboard and 6 electric sockets. That's all... Don't expect too much, it's really quite a small area... :P

A-level Medicine is just the name INTEC use to differentiate it from A-Level German and A-level to UK. They are ALL from the same board of examination- London edexcel board.
In terms of the difference between edexcel and cambridge, the duration of the course being the most obvious one- 1.5 years vs 2 years. The curriculum and syllabus are different too.

No cheap & hygiene food there at Cendana?
Hmmm... Define cheap? :))
Well, I'm pretty sure you've heard of Dawood. That's like the only mamak stall available around cendana. Prices are rather expensive, recently they just marked up their food prices. A plate of fried rice/mee cost rm3.50, nasi goreng pattaya costs rm5. You won't have much choice but to dine here most of the time.
For non-malays, you can order Chinese Food from an auntie (she's a caterer). So she'll deliver the food everyday at 7pm. Prices are RM4 per day (this is for dinner only). She'll usually cook rice, meat, some vegs, maybe eggs/taufu. If you want her number, do ask from me and I'll freely give it to you. :))
Another option would be Mak Endon (famously known as the RM2.70 place). A plate of rice + meat + veg costs 2.70. There's a catch though. Just a month ago, the place was ordered to close down by the Jabatan Kesihatan as the place was filthy and infested with flies. So you might want to reconsider your options. :))
Your last resort, would be to travel to section 2/SACC mall/PKNS/Plaza Alam Sentral/Plaza Masalam. At Sect. 2, there's a large food court, all serving mostly malay food. There's Mcd and KFC there too. You can either take the Rapidkl bus there or walk (15 mins).
SACC/PKNS/Alam sentral (sect. 14) are all located side by side. There's lots of eateries at these places. Nandos, Kenny Rogers, Big apple, dunkin, secret recipe... You'll have to take a bus to get there. Same goes to Plaza Masalam (sect. 9) too.

hi guys. I got the twinning programme PMC and I am going to take A-level in INTEC. Anyone same as me?
I have a few questions.
1.Normally A level takes about 1.5 years, but why mine takes 2 years?
2.Is it necessary for me to buy a laptop?
Thanks.
FYI, A Level Medicine students have to do Biology reports, about four to five reports per semester. You are required to hand in the report a week after your practical. For Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, you rarely need to do reports or presentations. For English, in Semester 1 especially, you have about 2-3 presentations. For Ethics, you need to do one presentation and one group folio PER semester. There's quite a lot of computers in the library, and if you're in Akasia, there's computer lab which opens at night. There's cyber cafes near the hostel as well. Judge it yourselves whether you need a laptop or not. One advice for you: Be careful with virus on public computers.
oh by the way, there's Biology issue report and individual investigation reports to do too. These two reports will carry the marks for your external. They're for Unit 3 and Unit 6. You'll do it sometime during your second and third semester.

Depends, some lecturers will help you to order while some will ask you to get it on your own. If you're in programmes other than ausmat, you can get the books from seniors too. They'll usually throw in notes and past year papers too... :)
If you wanna get photocopied books, the good ol' double A shop near cemara/akasia will do you good, but mind you, some of the books are quite outdated. For ausmat, you can get 'original looking' books from mac center opposite of taylors subang.

Well first of all, don't discourage yourself by saying that IELTS is difficult when you've not known what it is all about yet! Well, you just gotta take things one step at a time, put effort in it, I'm sure you'll succeed. :)
lesto, what exactly do you mean by 'original looking' books ?
Hmmm, original looking. Hush hush, this is supposed to be a secret among lecturers (though some of them have already known about it). Well, some lecturers will demand you to buy original books, and mind you, one textbook of a subject in ausmat costs at least rm100 (the least!). And this is only part 1, what if you have part 2? Plus workbook, other reference book, multiply that by 5 subjects, it'll burn your pocket!
So there's this smart guy in Subang Jaya, he opened a shop called mac centre, and he sells books that are 'original looking' but in fact it is not original. The cover of the book looks original but the inside is photostated. :))

I don't think the club is existent as I've never heard of it when I was in INTEC. There's no rugby field in cendana, and in INTEC too (i think, coz I've never seen one there). However there's a field right in front of cendana. Around cendana, there's only a basketball court, futsal court, football field and gym. That's all.
haha.. but does Ausmat students really need the books not?
Need what books? Textbooks or original books you mean? Haha, like I said, depends on lecturers. Most lecturers are kind enough to let you buy photostated books actually cuz they know we students are poor. :P Some lecturers even use photostated books themselves! From my experience, you'll only need to buy original books for ESLS, IELTS and Computer studies, all which you can get from seniors. :))
same here... :)
I believe this question has been answered a few pages back. :)

9) too.
i think i'm gonna have to bring my rice cooker, just the buy the lauk to save the cost. :cry

Wait! The places that I mentioned was for the guys only. For girls and senior guys, you'll be spoilt with choices at Sect. 18. You can go thru the recom wiki for the full list. But it's always a good idea to bring rice cooker. Most of the girls that I know in INTEC cook on their own at least once or twice a week. :))

:))at least you can save the rice's money! ahahahhahaha....no need to hide the rice cooker, just buy RM10 sticker enough..i cannot think of any places that you can hide your rice cooker....*induction cooker is totally not allowed., but usually ppl will still put it in the kitchen "openly". we never have any spot checks before, but they do come into your room when you go to class. maybe just to check the condition...:)

yes. no collar is allowed for girls. usually we can passed the guard with sleeve up till elbow, :))just pandai-pandai sikit...conclusion, you can wear any skul or organization or company's shirts.you don't necessarily have to cover up your toes. it's ok with that 'sandal'.

For ausmat students, u really hav to equip urself with a laptop
There are plenty of assignments and research papers awaiting
Besides, subscription to internet is also crucial.
U nid to obtain sufficient info from the internet fr each subject

Nahhhh, they'll go bankrupt if they sponsor every student a laptop. xP
JPA will usually give you one lump sum of money for one semester (note: NOT one month!). However, JPA will take quite some time to bank in the cash into your bank account, i remember ausmat's are always one of the last to get their cash, with ALM-Manipal bound students one of the earliest. Last year, we received the cash only after 2 months of our admission date. So yeah, you'll have to have some cash on your own.
Regarding the amount, its standard, RM430 per month equaling to RM2580 per semester. Sabah/Sarawak gets extra few hundred (not sure the exact amount, i think its RM350?) per semester for flight ticket purchases. However, we had a little extra for the first semester, about RM50, don't ask me why...

Yes of course they will still give it to you! Like what you said, most sabahan-sarawakians don't usually go back during mid sem breaks (which are usually 1-2 weeks long) and they'll have some extra cash in their pockets...

I'm in Ausmat but I'm not in engineering stream. Haha, but i'll try to answer your questions. :)
For engineering, sadly, you don't have any choice of subjects. Your subjects are already pre-determined, however, if you've read the previous post, you might have read that they'll be introducing a new subject called research project.
For the ausmat engineering seniors now in INTEC, they're taking ESLS (English), Maths Studies, Specialist Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Regarding IELTS, this year, we sat our IELTS slightly earlier than our seniors. We had our tests in April but our seniors took it during their 3rd semester.

Haha, ADFP stands for American Degree Foundation Programme. You'll get used to all the abbreviations (such as ALM, ALUK, KTJ, MEP, PPP, just to name a few xP) once you enter INTEC.
Yes you can choose what you want to major in (but JPA must approve it beforehand if i'm not wrong). Passing mark? Hmmm, if you get a TER of 85 and above as required by JPA, i'm pretty sure you'll be able to fly. The requirements for engineering courses are much lower as compared to health sciences. Check out various uni websites in NZ for the requirements to enter into their universities. :)

About ur doubts,
U will have to choose ur specific major in engineering during the second year of study in NZ (Uni of Auckland or Canterbury or others)
As what jpa requires, TER 85, that's for sure fr everyone
Since u r bout to take engineering, dun worry bout the TER so much that u fear of achieving that score or rank
Ur place is quite certain in any uni. The requirements fr engineering undergraduates are quite low and juz do ur best!!

Nah, for IELTS, it won't be as difficult as you think, just try your best. From my observation, your english looks pretty fine to me. :)) For my batch, majority scored band 7 and above, so shouldn't be a problem.
Hmmm, preparation in terms of what? Prepare the books that you need? Well just to let you know first, seniors won't be able to pass/sell you books as they will need to use them themselves. Our textbooks will need to last us till this end of year. Books can be easily found and purchased there...

Laptop is essential for ausmat like what many others have said. You need it for your assignments, research and presentations (which will come one after another...) Besides, i'm pretty sure you'll want some entertainment too won't you? I can't imagine living without a laptop during my days in intec. :P
Allowance, it depends on how much you really spend and what you spend on. For me, it is MORE than enough and i still have quite a lot of leftovers in my bank account. :)) Just make sure you divide the RM430 per month wisely, you'll need to spend on food, internet bill (if you subscribe to one), books (once per semester maybe...), entertainment (movies/cinema?), transport (for RapidKL buses/taxi fares/bus fares to and from hometown).

Oh hoh... don't panic yet. No, no ranking stuff here... :)) They do it so as to make the classroom size smaller. Now we have many more classes (we call them groups here) and less students in a group. Oh btw, you'll be sitting for some tests on the last day of your Minggu Mesra Siswa week in INTEC, but let me inform you first, the tests are rather useless, don't have to get stressed up over it. They don't use the results to stream students into different classes and all. (note: this is for ausmat only, for adfp, it is important as they'll stream you into groups based on your results during the test).

Nope, there's no lecture sessions, INTEC isn't like university style. Your classes will only revolve around classrooms and labs (yeah, i know what you're thinking right now, its just like secondary school :P)
Urm, your statement regarding the calculator not able to meet our needs is VERY true. However, this calculator is still essential and very good to use because you are so familiar with it, the positions of the button and all. The calculator that you'll need to buy once you enter ausmat will be the Texas Instrument TI-84 (that's mine, maybe there'll be an updated version in the your year who knows?) It costs RM450 and you cannot claim it from JPA. :P This calculator is good because it's sophisticated and canggih! haha... Can draw graphs, analyze the graphs (like finding min/max points, area under curve, etc...), calculate stuff which are impossible to calculate using our normal casio calculators. It'll be extremely useful but you'll need a very long time to learn how to use it because it is too canggih! that's why we still prefer the casio calculator once in a while. We bring both calculators to the exam hall. :))

Nope, there's no lecture sessions, INTEC isn't like university style. Your classes will only revolve around classrooms and labs (yeah, i know what you're thinking right now, its just like secondary school :P)

is it? i am more glad to hear that i guess. i went matrik for 17 days. and i used a week to get used to the lecture, tutorial, practical stuff. phew.
RM 450? omg. so costful. if i accidentally lost it or broken it, my heart will break as well. haha. one friend of mine, told me that he is using Texas Instrumnets-89 titanium, cost RM498~~~~ shocked~

Lol, one week is really fast. I took quite some time to adapt, so you'll do fine in INTEC i guess... :)
Hmmm, the gc's (short form for graphic calculator, that's what we call it) are rarely stolen, coz everyone in Ausmat has one, so there's no reason to steal one. Haha... Broken? I've accidentally dropped my gc quite a few times, very ganas falls and it survived! phew... :))
That TI-89 titanium version is even more canggih than mine. Haha. Well it depends on which version the lecturer wants you to purchase. During my time, my lecturer called a salesman to come to INTEC to sell it to us and we bought from him.
oh.. should we buy it now? (the calculator i mean)
Nope, don't even bother searching for it in the bookstores, because you will never be able to find it there! :P Just wait for your lecturer's instructions. He/she will call the salesman to come. No worries. :))

INTEC shah alam~

Oh hoh... don't panic yet. (note: this is for ausmat only, for adfp, it is important as they'll stream you into groups based on your results during the test).
tests?? O.O....does this apply to a level students as well? what do they test us on? oh, my poor rotting brain..haha..

there will be tests for alevel students too BUT i was told last year by my seniors that the tests don't count at all. a-levels students are grouped together based on their future destination randomly.(the university we're gonna do our degree).

Haha, no, the tests are not important for a-levels too because of the reason like what kanashibari has stated... However, you will still be required to sit the two tests which are English and Maths. The Maths test is all about form 4-5 stuff, for English, i think they just tested us on grammar and stuff... Not to worry... :)

Wow, thanks to all those who has posted such useful info on this thread, now i know INTEC a lot more better.
are we gonna have orientation upon entering INTEC? or we'll just start our classes immedietly?
as mentioned, we'll be grouped together by the course we're taking right? that means our classmates would be someone who's taking the same course as ours?
I got MMC twinning, but haven't found someone who got that so far =P

Yes, true, you'll be grouped together based on your destination after pre-u (this is for a-levels) unless they decide to change the policy this year which i don't think they will. And yes, you'll have orientation which will last for a week. You'll play team-building games most of the time during orientation. :)

MMC twinning? If I'm not mistaken you must mean PMC twinning. I know that there was a glitch this year that JPA put it as MMC only to change it to PMC during the night of the result release. ;)
There is no such thing as MMC only PMC (Penang Medical College) and MMMC (Melaka-Manipal Medical College).

Nope, not true, there are many international students who are private students in INTEC particularly from Nigeria. I'm not sure what they're studying tho but you can see them around in one large group usually.
And by the way, those who are in INTEC are not necessarily JPA scholars, they can be from other organisations too like Petronas, TNB, MARA, FELDA, etc...
