I shall be starting my CFAB course at Sunway in July. Therefore I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about the apartment units. It would be better if you could attach pictures too.

1. How many people are there in a room?
2. Are there television units?
3. In a scale of 1-10 (1 is terrible and 10 is the best), how would you rate the hostel?
4. Is there anywhere we can keep our personal belongings (like laptop etc) locked up?
5. Are we allowed to decorate the room?
6. How far is the hostel from the college?
7. How far is the hostel from Sunway Pyramid?
8. Are there rules like no entering the hostel area after 10pm?
9. Where do we do our laundry?
10. How fast is the internet connection?
11. What should I bring when I go? What are the items available in the room?

1. Depends on which apartment you are talking about. From what I know, there are rooms for four, double sharing and singel rooms available.

2. Nope. Missed most of the tennis Grand Slams during my year at Sunway because of that. :(

3. 8.5 because of the convenience, new friends and decently cozy environment.

4. Everybody has a few drawers and cupboards in their rooms to keep personal belongings safe, so yes.

5. Don't think so. If you want to, nobody will penalize you for it as long as you take it down before you move out.

6. Ridiculously near. 500 meters at most.

7. About 2-3km if you walk. Or, there's always the option of paying Rm5 for a 5-minute taxi ride there.

8. Yes, there's a curfew rule. Not exactly sure what time but I think it's 12am during weekdays and 3am during weekends.

9. Washing machines are provided in each unit.

10. Ridiculously slow. I'd recommend getting wireless broadband.

However, there used to be a program called Xsocam that allows high-speed LAN sharing between hostel tennants. Not sure if it's still functioning or if the administrators have banned it but that was the highlight of the hostels; 2MBps download speeds, Dota and CS between tennants, chat rooms, game rooms, etc. SO AWESOME.

11. Table, cupboard, desk, chair, bed and all the necessary items. Cooking is not allowed. Bring your blankets, pillows, favourite bolster/soft toy/whatever. XD

Are JPA scholars provided accomodation in Sun-U residences?

@<hidden>, i don't think so. most JPA scholars are either staying in SUN-U apartment (behind college) or CASA Subang which is behind MYDIN or The Summit. There are buses provided by college from CASA to sunway college.

@<hidden>, there is no single room in apartment. The most you can get is a twin-sharing room. And we no longer have Xsocam since end of last year. :( I don't think there is washing machine provided in apartment. There are washing machines provided in each unit in Sun-U Residence but not in Sun-U apartment. Apparently, students staying in apartment can choose to wash their laundry in an area where there are a few washing machines which you have to pay per usage.

Suggest you call Sunway Uni at 03-74918622 and speak to the Apartment Hostel Management office and they will provide all info you require.

Friends Feedback:

1. Near door: If you sleep deeply and will not be disturbed by the sound when others slap the door, this is suggested.

2. Near Window: you get to feel the wind.

Overall: very hot and stuffy.

Monash Uni > Sun-U Residence > Sunway Medical Center > Palmvilla (Could not be sure :P ) > (forget name) > Sunway Pyramid > Sunway Lagoon > Sun-U Apartment > Monash Uni.....

Sun U Residence, of course. they're located right next to the college, which means you can wake up a minute before class starts and still make it there in time.

LOL. Fyi, it is now Sunway University. Sunway College is in JB, and there's one in Ipoh as well. Sarawak also if I'm not mistaken.
It is convenient for Monash students because Monash is just down the road. Many Monash students stay in Sun-U Residences; I can see lots of students walking there. However, I think that Monash Sunway Residences is nearing completion/completed. Not so sure about that, but Sun-U is fine as well.

If it's not too far for you, take a drive there and check it out yourself.
But I believe that the official website has the most information at this point of time, compared to other sites, that is.

Themsunny: I went to the hostels the other day, I hope this helps a little.....Between Sun-U Apartment and Sun-U residence, of course Residence would be a better choice.Not sure where is Casa though... Sun-U Apartment is located a stone's throw away from Sunway Campus, to be exact, it is inside the campus itself. Sun-U residence is located outside Sunway Campus, on your right just before the campus's entrance. But, the distance between Sun-U apartment and residence is just approx 8min walking distance. Very near. The only difference is Residence is equipped with air cond while apartment is not.

Casa Subang is in USJ 1. It is near Summit, right beside Mydin to be exact. There is a scheduled bus service to Sunway University. I am not sure if there are any charges for the service.
