hey, I wonder if any of you could help me out on how to find out whether a system is 24-bit or 48-bit addressing.
I just upgraded my silly computer to 200 GB and I need my system to support 48-bit addressing in order to use more than 137GB of space.
I'll google at the same time but if any of you know this, please do tell.
if you just want to use a hard drive of over 137GB in capacity, having Windows XP SP1 is enough ...
another alternative is installing an IDE/ATA Controller PCI card ...
- from a user of two 200GB harddrives -
hmm my 200gb worked just fine before i installed sp1. its a new motherboard though, so maybe that's it

I read somewhere, I need both my OS and BIOS to support 48-bit addressing. The OS part seems to be okay but I am not so sure about the BIOS.
How do I check it in the BIOS? I explored the BIOS and I found nothing about 48-bit.

I think what you need to do is to set your HDD's addressing mode to LBA.
