hmm in my opinion its not the memorizing which counts.. its the understanding.. u got to understand what ur doing.. then even if u don read much u will be able to handle it.. but if u memorize without understanding.. its equivalent to eating food but without salt..

shan123,

physics is always my fav subject so i might share my tips.

paying enough attention or understanding what stated per se in ur physics book will never lead you to get excellent results unless the exam is straightforward.

do this:

every time u finished studying physics, try the questions on that subtopic.if it is darn hard, don't fret, frequent ur lecturer's office hours and ask him politely how to solve the questions.

like,"prof..i have come this far.....but i dont how to continue"..dont go and ask ur prof to do the questions when u dont even put any effort to it.

if u have seniors u know, asked them the past semester exams and try doing them.understand why the answers are as that.dont accept e'thing without questions, the prof might alter the questions and you would lost track.

do u have essay questions?if u do,well,i suggest memorizing.if you wanna get 20 out of 20 in ur essay,MEMORIZED.if there is any mistake it is not ur fault but the book's fault.

if u merely remember things,u might end up scoring 18/19 out of 20 becoz trust me u will always left certain points.u can memorized the essays like 1,2 days before the exams.but before that,u should understand them perfectly.

i think the keys to be successful in physics are:

PRACTISE,PRACTISE AND PRACTISE.do as many questions as you can.

have the right attitude.eg: most students who did well in physics think they are born to be einstein.

finally, when the day u face ur paper, said a bit of prayer.

hope that's help.

good advice. why do you think i love physics? because i have to remember almost nothing. a lot of equations are usually given. if you really understand em, you can derive em all. when u do hw, never ever copy ur friends. make sure u understand the topic when you do the hw. i dont learn anything from lecture, just from the hw.

shan123, it is very nice that you bring this issue up in ReCom for discussion.

I believe that as others have suggested, the main problem lies upon your understanding is not thorough. I would suggest that what you should do now, would be to first analyze your physics test and see where you go wrong and why you get wrong. Is it because you are not well prepared in those topics? Is it because your understanding is not good enough? ... Analyze and find out the core reasons. Feel free to share more about it, and many of us in ReCom would definitely try our best to help~!

On doing your tutorial, how do you do it? Do you do for the sake of submitting to your lecturer? or you do to gain a full understanding? Is there any topic that you don't really understand? If there is, try to understand, ask your lecturer during office hour, discuss with your friends, or if you really can't get help directly, seek for help here in ReCom. The main thing as phantom said would be that you should take the initiative and not just passing the bucket around. Do you try your best to understand? Don't just ask how to do a question, but share what you understand, how much you understand, and from there, others would guide you, especially after seeing that you have tried your best.

Everyone learns differently and try to find a good way to learn for yourself... shan123, don't give up, seek help~! and we in ReCom are happy to help~!

oooo
im so thank you who willing to share their study tips with me......
this time physics test nt just me that dont know how to do but allof us in my same course.Perhaps my lecturer give the test too hard but i will try my best to brush up so i can pass my exam with flying colours.I will try to do my tutorial all again and understanding each of them.
Very sad my tutorial is easy but my test is hard =<
i will try my best thank you all of you........

Oh, all the physics people are here. My advice: RUN (joke, but I did ran away.....after Form 6 from physics).

Yup, that's right. During Forms 4 and 5 I always completed my Physics revision the quickest.

And note this:
"If you study to remember you will forget, but if you study to understand you will remember"

Science and engineering people never run away from physics in all their lifetime. Physics is the very core subject to science and engineering area.

Oh if you mean using a pippete in my lab counts as having contact with physics, yes, I am still with it.
