Anyone out there using FEMLAB 3.0a for finite element analysis please?
I'm having trouble importing DXF files.
also, if anyone has any notes onf finite element modelling, could you share it with me please?
I'm a student trying to use finite element on mechanics, but i'd never learnt about finite element modelling before.
Please help.

I have a few questions:
2-D or 3-D FE analysis?
Static or Dynamic loading?
How complex is your problem such that you need FE to solve it?
try this:

FEM is basically just solving the stiffness equations in matrix form all at once to find the natural frequencies and the deflection of an object. To get good resolution results, you must select your mesh size properly and then choose yur material properties carefully so that the FEM will actually converge to an answer. it seems that youare trying to import geometry from autoCAD into FEMLAB. I recommend using solidworks to do your geometry instead.
Hope that helps..
Good luck!

Thank you for your reply digimushu.
can i have a bit of advice on meshing please?
if i want to perform 2D and 3D eigenfrequency analysis, how well should the meshing be?

it depends,
if your object has a notch or bend somewhere, thats probably where the highest stress concentration is.
Say, do we have an engineering SIG? If not, we should start one
