As we all know, working for government in Malaysia that means a secure job. Unless we do something illegal, we won't get sacked or retrenched. Pretty much, we are assured of getting to earn our pension till the day we die.
Across the Causeway, Singapore is trying to initiate a 3% cut each year on headcount in Civil Service. That means, Singapore is targeting to cut 8,100 civil servants from the current 90,000 civil servants in Singapore.
What is your view on this move? Could this initiative be replicated in Malaysia? Would it bring positive or negative consequences? Hope to hear more comments come pouring in. This is a great topic for discussion~!

well, losing jobs are one scarry thing especially when u r brought up to think that= go to school,,study hard, get a degree,a decent job and family and watch ur kids grow and later when the time arrives, closed ur eyes for immortarlity.
given that fact,i think the decision is not wise somehow.imagine what would happen for these 8100's families?
i dont know whether money can buy u happiness or not,but i am pretty sure it can steal away ur happiness.
i believe the 8100 families will face severe problems that might lead to other problems.eg:divorce, kids being used at the tantrum absorber and stuff.
psychologically,it is one unhealty move unless the gov of singapore or even the gov of malaysia can help them find decent jobs elsewhere. eg:the private sector.
when ppl are being terminated at the gov sector...i wonder how safe the private sectior is.
sound scarry to me,

if it is for more efficiency, then it is for a good purpose. I don't think the people should pay taxes to the government for inefficiency.
It sounds worrying the civil servants but I think this is a good move, since people always complain that government officers are very slow all the time. they may perform better in order not to be sacked.

Yeah, I agree. This should be a warning to those civil servants who spend more time drinking coffee than serving the people. This move should be implemented in Malaysia, in my opinion.

well trimming the jobs in civil service must come with more jobs in the private sector.
C + I + G + NX = GDP
and NO the government must not use this excuse to create more governmnt (or party) linked firms anymore. instead they have to induce the creation of more firms and industries.

On measurement of the performance of civil servant, anyone has any suggestion of how we could measure their performance? Is it through supervisor's apprisal? Examination? feedback from people that they perform service to? Because often a lot of these are very subjective, so anyone has any suggestion of good way to deal with it?
