I'm looking on ways to help overcome my BM language problem,i never seem to be able to get good marks for my essays not to mentions the tatabahasa and literature.i feel hopeless and sadly never aimed high for BM due to my inability to write a essay of SPM standard.
For now,i'm trying to read an essay everyday + finding words i don't understand and trying to imitate how they write.but i'm sure it's not enough, advice anyone?

I believe familiarising yourself with the questions is extremely important not only for Bahasa, but for other subjects as well. These are some things you can probably consider doing, it helped me for my Bahasa Papers at least.

Paper 1 (Karangan)

If you want to get an A - a good karangan is very important. I am sure by now, you have no problem to brain storm for essay ideas in less than 15 minutes and make short-notes/mind maps as your guidance to write the essays? If you still have this problem, then I highly suggest group discussions. Actually, the scope topic for Essays are based on your text book. You can download the tema karangan here (http://www.mediafire.com/?cknkjom4yi4) . Based on that tema, try to find informations about each topic and have a short notes on possible questions : You know that our essays will ask either : Kesan, Faktor etc.

Do note that the Paper 1 (Bahagian B) is categorised into 5 types (It consist of 5 questions). Soalan 1 will be an individual-focused question (eg : Kesan* kepada pelajar/anak/individu/murid), Question 2 will be a parents-focused question ( eg : Kesan* kepada ibu bapa), Question 3 will be a society-related question ( Kesan* kepada masyarakat/sekolah), Question 4 will be a government/nation/international-related question (Kesan* kepada warga dunia) while Question 5 will be a literature-based question (Cerpen, Kajian novel)

*Kesan is an example. It can be faktor, peranan, etc

You are advised to answer Question 1,2 or 3 only, because 4 is tricky as it needs a lot of research and facts regarding international relationships and let's face it, we're not writers to answer Question 5.

With 3 types of question in hand, you're now more focused to do your planning.

Now the aspect of writing your essays. Reading tonnes of good materials will help a lot - I'd suggest magazines like Dewan Siswa and Fokus SPM. I find reading the Contoh Karangan book an ineffective way (or maybe I was just lazy). Include peribahasa in your essay, at least 1 in every paragraph (if you're aiming for an A) or at least, 5 peribahasa in your Section B essay. Make sure you have 4 well-elaborated points. If you find it hard to write such long essays - practice. When I was in school, we wrote an essay every 2 weeks and I think that helped me a lot in practicing my writing.

For section A - the key is to use all the information given as the bahan rangsangan and make your essay as clear as possible (You have word limit right? Follow the world limit) This section is testing the ability of students to provide a clear elaboration on given facts, while Section B tests the student's ability to write in Bahasa with good grammar and the ability to use the peribahasa in the essay.

And if you're writing your essays as a practice - have your teacher mark them. Only when you realise your mistakes will you learn and improve.

Paper 2

While Paper 1 will determine your A, Paper 2 helps students to pass Bahasa Malaysia. First and foremost, I believe the format for Paper 2 is still the same as last year? You will have sections : rumusan, sastera, tatabahasa, kajian novel?

If it is still the same format, then here are my tips.

Rumusan
Read the question carefully and skim the passage. I believe you should know the rumusan format of answering? If you don't know how to, please read here (http://bmspm.net/bmru.htm). And if you're still clueless, tell me. I'd be glad to help you with examples.

You must follow the format and the word limit. It is possible to get 30/30 for your rumusan. Make sure you have 6 isi tersurat and 2 isi tersirat, make sure you follow the format pendahuluan and the format penutup.

As for the Pemahaman Umum, question (i) needs defining and I can't help you much with this. I hated this queston - we're not Kamus Dewan :( for question (ii), the answer is in the passage - all you need to do is look for it! question (iii) is easier because it is your opinion and you must not have an answer mentioned in the text.

Sastera
I would say this is a combination of ample practice and good targeting, which will be hard for your year since you have new literary reads. I cannot help you much with this. However, pay attention in class, understand your text, do exercises . Internet is the best place to study. There are heaps of blogs run by Bahasa teachers and I believe this will help you in answering your Literature section.

Among the blogs I'd recommend :
http://bmmgcm.wordpress.com/
http://galusbm.blogspot.com/
http://azemi09.wordpress.com/
http://khirkassim.blogspot.com/
http://bmspm.net/

and google for more yourself :D

Tatabahasa

Nobody likes Tatabahasa (Ok maybe some will - kudos if you do!) The key is exercise. Tatabahasa doesn't require much of your time actually, it's the only part of Bahasa that I very rajin to do exercises. Try google for exercises, better download past year trials questions and answer the Tatabahasa section. I find actual SPM-like papers helps a lot more than exercises from books. From exercises, you are not only familiar to the format, but will realise that the tatabahasa aspect asked are all the same. In Malay we say "Balik-balik situ juga soalan tanya."

Novel
Again, I am not sure how to help you on this because of the new literary reads :(
But like I said, it's all ample practice and good targeting.

Paper 2 helps students a lot and you must avoid careless mistakes. Paper 1 needs practice and a bit of memorising (peribahasa, frasa menarik).

-----

While this might be helpful to improve you Bahasa paper (I really hope you find this helpful, oh if you don't - oh well, in what way should I help you then?) , it doesn't necessarily mean your grip on the language will be good. However, it's the start. Communicate in Bahasa among your friends and reading Bahasa materials will help a lot. Exams need practice, real life needs experience.

I wish you all the best and good luck :D

Surround yourself with BM materials. Watch news in BM. Read BM newspaper. Talk in BM. And lastly, make Kamus Dewan your best companion.
