Hrmm.. any particular applications you are interested in? i have some papers on MEMS that I can share but for someone who is not very familiar with control theory and linear systems theory... the papers might be too theoretical...

I have the whole collection from the ASME Congress on MEMS, any particular application/area of stuff you are looking for?

Thanks, I'll find them in ASME.

uwaa..sorry..it's been a long time not checking this forum....anyway,i'm interested more on design + fabrication + heat transfer in MEMS/NEMS...i've been working on research proposal that I need to get it done pretty soon....any idea/paper to help me get thru this??

thanksss...

If your library has access to the ASME congress(IMECE) papers, please look for MEMS and Heat transfer. Btw...welcome to the SIG.

also, assuming you have access to these AIAA, SAE and NASA databases, try look for the papers using the keywords mentioned by digi. AIAA has some papers on heat transfer but im not sure on MEMS. i know SAE have some on both topic, while NASA... heh, i guess they may have some too... :)

Yep, ther are sections on Nanotech and heat transfer in the IMECE so please feel free to look for papers there.

2 work in automobile industry like ferrari etc, which type of engineering is suitable? or perhaps there are how many types?

digimushu
16-04-2005, 06:24 PM
You can choose several types. It all really depends on what interest you the most. usually for high performance cars like ferrari, they tend to hire the best electrical engineer for the electircal stuff, and the best mechanical engineer for the mechanical stuff.

For high performance vehicles, usually they pick only the best of each field, as opposed to someone who has a general automotive engineering degree. what are you interested in?

can someone help me giving me more info on mechanical engineering that majors in petroleum?

here's a few questions i would like to know
is it the same as a petroleum engineer?
hows the demand for it?
hows the pay?
where can i study it locally?

i am currently doing my diploma in mechanical engineering in INTI college kuching(under full scholarship) and i just started about 2 weeks ago. money is a problem for me to continue my studies after finishing in inti so i would like to know other options besides studying overseas.

i applied for petroleum engineering scholarship from petronas but i got turned down after the interview.

thanks

Can i ask why do you want to study Petroleum Engineering?

Help ! I'm currently doing a project about turbines, how they work etc...the problem is i got the explanations right, but the professor wanted some mathematical equations about turbines. I have some books which explains something about one dimensional theory and euler turbine equation but i can't understand a word of it. And what the hell is an impeller?
Could you give some ideas about all this turbines' equations (wind, gas, steam, water and turbocharger) and direct me some of the sites where i can find info about all these?

Hi, everyone here!

I am just a spm leaver. However, I have made up my mind to become a mechanical engineer one day!

May I know how can I develop the country arming with the mechanical engineering knowledge in details?
I guessed that many people will say that it depends on what major you are in, so just give me the general contribution that I can made to my beloved country in future if I successfully became a mechanical engineer.

Thanks in advance for the heads up!!! :D

hi there..!

i am very interested to automotive engineering but bcoz of peer pressure i end up in I.T.

Now i think it's the time to focus back to my interest, if not it will be too late, now i'm already 28 yrs old. I found out that many college or uni only offer mech. engin. but i am much more interested to automotive. Can any1 suggest where the best way to take up automotive engineering course?

I found out that a few college offering MLVK to diploma course for practical auto technician courses but they do not offer more indept studies of automotive. Should i go and take up those auto technician course or go look for more specific automotive engineering course?

i want to learn everything abt cars..coz that wat my passion is. i just dont want to work in IT and think abt cars everydays....

any1 plz guide. thanks :D

Welcome to the SIG!

Mechanical engineering is a very wide field. Many mechanical engineers work in different feilds such as robotics, construction, automotive and aerospace/aeronautical field. SInce mechanical engineering is the basis for most physical systems based engineering, you can see it at work almost everyday.

Absolutbiz,

I know UIA offers an automotive engineering concentration. However, M'sian automotive engineering does not do much research or analysis. Most of the time we only repackage old cars(mitsubishi) or new ones(daihatsu). What do you hope to do in automotive engineering? Brakes? powertrain? Suspension? Tires? or any of the combination of the above? What are you interested in doing specifically? let us know so we can better answer yur question.

thanks...digi

actually i am very interested to know all of the combination you said.. but i guess i need to start one by one. so i would like to go for engines then drivetrain..and so on.

anyway, if i can choose..i would like to learn all the things..coz excited abt it.

everytime i watch the discovery channel showing those ppl in US rebuilt those junks into a real beast are really fascinating...

i hope one day i can such knowledge to do that...in malaysia it's hardly to find a very pro shop...

Actually, if you want to do what they did with those cars, all you need is vocational experience, no offense meant though. There is little design and engineering involved in those processes. Engineering is different than that. None of them are engineers, as far as I know. If you watch junkyard wars, there is more engineering there than in the shows where they rebuild the cars.

Hye... I'm studying in UTP and currently in 2nd year first semester in a 4 year degree programme.
Need someone to guide me in taking my majors soon.
should i go into the oil and gas or manufacturing?
can i know which is the best choice?
The pros and cons....

choose what you're interested in - i did aeronautical and got jobs in oil & gas (O&G), investment banks and insurance firms.

but I think currently O&G is in need of new talent to replace the ageing workforce and so is willing to pay a premium for it. but then, oil might finish soon and we're not too sure about the progress and effects of using alternative fuels.

Does anyone have the solution manual for Advanced Engineering Mathematics 9th Edition?
The author is Erwin Kreyszig and its publisher is Wiley.

Hello, i am starting my form6 this year. Do i need to take chemistry if i am interested in mechanical engineering? Do we learn anything about chemistry in the mechanical engineering course? Is further maths alone is enough? Do i need to take others maths subjects? Sorry for some noob question here.. But i really need to know. Thanks in advance! :)

i am confused and dunno how to choose between this 2..

Hi, I am a Petronas scholar who will be going to UTP this coming 14 JULY for course of Mechanical Engineering.

I would like to ask, during our foundation year, what subjects will we learn? Any syllabus that I need to learn?

And, are there any programmes that I need to know now?For my fou foundation year, i mean.

ANd, i hope to know some details about the syllabus that i need to undergo after the foudnation year.

Can anyone please tell me?

Thanks.

hahahhaha
u mean the syllabus or what is mech eng?
lol
anyway i jsut answer both hope can help u
:)
about the syllabus mechanical will study mainly about physics(thermo ,mechanical ,fluid mechanics) and math(calculus) and computing(C++ , Java ,mathlab) (these are the main cores of mech eng) throughout ur 4 years of study (or maybe 3 for UK?)

to answer the second part what is mech eng?
mech eng is mostly related to mechanical stuff ,engine and depends on which field of specilization you want to go into (e.g in NTU(SG) they have aerospace specilization , mechatronics , maritime eng , manufacturing )
and each specilization will have different path for u

these days , mech eng has becoming more hybrid to comply with the market...

hello,

I am an SPM leaver and am interested in mechanical engineering. Unfortunately, many ppl are against my decision to study this just because...I'm a girl!

So is there any reason why I cannot take this course because of my gender? What convincing answers can I give that I can do it even though it's not typically chosen field for a girl (unlike chem or e&e engineering)?
Sigh...

digimushu

Just because you are a girl, does not mean that you will not be good as a mechancial engineer. My former advisor is a woman, with a family and she still manages to do a great job as a professor.

Mechanical engineering is not limited to truly manual mechanical things. You can be an expert in mechanical modeling with a real-life understanding of the mechanisms. Just do what you like, for at the end of the day, you have to live with it all your life.
