Hey all, I hardly find any HKU BDS interview experience even using google search so I decided to start this thread to contribute to the community :)
The dentistry interview took place in HK,in Prince Philip Dental Hospital. I just went for the interview and I think the offer will be out 3 weeks later :) Hope that I can get it :)
According to my senior,last year the intake is 7 international students! So that is a big number compared to the normal 2 intakes. There are 3 Malaysians, 4 from Indonesia,Singapore. The overall intakes is 50 per year. So sorry I don't know how many international students they want this year. But for my interview, there are only 3 Malaysians including me.
The interview took me only 10 to 15 minutes and there are 3 interviewers who are really nice!! 2 are real dentists who taught there,1 is the dean himself :) The questions they asked me are:
1) 1st time in HK? (small talk)
2) Why dentistry?
3) Why choose this university?
4) What do you think of PBL?
5) What's your weaknesses?
6) Any community work you've attended?
7) Why not medicine?
8) Any questions to ask us?
Yeah basically that's all and they won't blast you or anything because they only want to see you or get to know you. It's pretty relaxing because they will try to make it not so formal :) But for your attire,just wear the typical formal suit :) Just remember to stay calm,confident, maintain your smile and eye contact :)
The worst thing is! After the interview ended, there are 2 doors and I went to the wrong one and can't open it! LOL They laughed at me and told me the other one! GOSH guessed I'm too relieved at that time :P

(11)What do you think about PBL?
(12)What is your learning habit?
(13)Why didn't you choose to study in Malaysia?
(14)Why not NUS? Why not IMU?
(15)What do you plan to do after obtaining your BDS degree?
There are a few things they want to know about you:
-how suitable you are for dentistry
-depth of interest in dentistry
-whether you can adapt to Hong Kong life
-whether you will be able to pick up PBL easily
-whether you're only interested in the high salary
-whether you're interested in postgraduate studies
-whether you're amicable and pleasant
-English fluency
-how active you are extra-curricularly
There are a few facts you should to know:
-HKU is the only university that offers dentistry
-what is PBL
-HKU BDS is fully PBL-based
-you need to work for awhile before taking postgraduate
-you can work in Hong Kong after getting your degree
-you need to live in HK for 7 years before you can get permanent residency
Tips : If they ask you about postgraduate studies, say that you would love to continue your studies. HKU wants postgraduates.
By the way! Dentistry course in HKU will be 6 years starting next year!
So,basically that's all for now :) Good luck for those who're applying for dentistry in HKU! No panic! HKU is a super great school! Hope we all can make it :)
