Don't hate him larr. Kesian him.
Reasons why must 'kesian' him,
1. He got hit by a 'bottle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unNvbrlPgLc)' without knowing the reason. "ouch, i duno why she threw at me"

2. His song, 'baby' got twice the dislikes than likes. Awesome statistics. though rebecca black won him.

3. Katy perry and rihanna also understand his despair, so they kissed (http://www.google.com.my/imglanding?q=katy+perry+kiss+bieber&hl=en&gbv=2&tbm=isch&tbnid=0b3L7H7zH-F6QM:&imgrefurl=http://fun140.com/gifts/15715-bieberkiss/deliver&imgurl=http://www.beattrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/Rihanna-and-Katy-Perry-Kiss-Justin-Bieber.jpg&w=593&h=416&ei=1LyvTYGTOYfWrQfqpdmGCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&page=1&tbnh=130&tbnw=171&start=0&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&biw=1003&bih=567) him.

We should all be against haters. I mean, you can just see the haters-world right now. At first they went on and on with Justin Bieber. Then Rebecca Black came out, they went on and on with her instead of justin bieber. Why should we hate them in the first place? They are just singers. If you don't like their singing then just don't listen to their songs. They are human too.

I don't hold anything against Bieber personally. Actually when it comes to phenomena like I this the thing I really hate is the fans. I mean, it's not that he's a bad singer (I don't like his voice but it's not like it's off-tune or anything) but that he's so overrated by his fans. Seriously. It's the same thing with the Jonas brothers or whatever other lame teen-pop-rock sensation that's been rolling around these years. They're just. So. Annoying.

Rebecca Black is a different case entirely. Of course we shouldn't say she's a horrible person because her song sucks, but we have every right to criticise her song (repeat: her SONG) and say it sucks because it does. And she can't sing, also a fair comment (though with the extent of that Auto-Tuning, for all we know she may have had a pretty decent voice to begin with). But the thing about her that makes us all idiots is that we keep talking about it! The label that distributes her video is simply playing a great viral marketing campaign - in an industry where you'd have to be REALLY good to get a viral campaign going, they decided to go the opposite way and be really BAD so that they'd get everyone's attention. And they did. Doesn't matter if no one likes her music video. Fact is that everyone's watching it and discussing it, and she's making tonnes of money...

Also I don't think Bieber is to be pitied. Geez. Some criticism is a small price to pay for the huge amount of money he'd have by now, it's not like he's a dirty politician or something haha.

Well, we were young once, and what were we listening to back then? I don't know about you, but when I was in my tweens I liked groups like S-Club 7 or boybands like Blue, N'Sync, the Backstreet Boys. People who were in their late teens or early 20s were probably listening to Radiohead, Nirvana, or Oasis, and I doubt they thought the music us tweens listened to wasn't lame. Just an example.

Yeaaah, I have to agree that his fans are generally very over-the-top. Then again, most tween girls seem to be. Just look at the circus around Twilight.

Though I don't enjoy his music, I don't hate Bieber. It can't be denied that he has talent, if not as a singer than maybe as a dancer, or a musician (the kid plays... four instruments?) and if you're not a fan of his music, then simply change the channel. There's plenty of music out there.

As for Rebecca Black, I actually think that she's good for pop music. Mainly because, if a credible pop singer ever produces something similar to "Friday", they'll be written off as a joke, and lose credibility for going down "the Friday route". Maybe this'll push them to not be so.... cheesy.

Yeah, I mean, I get the generation gap when it comes to music, but hey I like 80s music as well as 90s music. And I wasn't exactly very hyped up about the 90s, it does have a lot of manufactured pop groups and factory-made songs. But I'm a teen now and I think lots of the music my peers listen to is lame. And like I said my main problem is just the over-the-top fans - I recognise that I don't like some music and that some people do, and that's fine. It's the way of the world.

Comparing Justin Bieber and, say, the Backstreet Boys (which I like actually) I also recognise that the two groups have artistic integrity to some degree - they don't just manufacture songs, they do have some original output and they are reasonably talented. But of course now all of the Backstreet Boys' crazy female fans have grown up and so comes along Bieber to take on the next generation. Hahaha.

Interesting that you mentioned Twilight. I think it's overrated and over-hyped, yeah, but it's also a cunning, shrewd manufacturing of a book designed to appeal to the teen female (or some odd adult female) demographic. It has everything from a blank slate main character (for them to project themselves onto) to a perfect guy (there's no guy who acts that way in real life, and Meyer devotes a LOT of description to him) plus of course the super cheesy dialogue and just some action to try and hook some boys, too. It's brilliant.

But probably utterly disgusting to most boys. Once I found a copy of Breaking Dawn at a library...I just randomly flipped open a page and sure enough the first line I saw was a description of Edward staring at Bella. (I closed the book right away)

Yes, I agree. Though music by the Backstreet Boys has... deteriorated since their glory days in the mid-2000s, in my opinion. To me, it's annoying when an established band tries to change their sound and go into something considered "hip" just so they can appeal to a younger crowd and sell more records. Fairly cynical of me, I admit. I don't like it when older singers like J. Lo. or BSB try to 'reinvent' themselves by releasing dance tracks or club songs. They used to sing about much more meaningful things than getting down on the dance floor! :(

Oh, and I haven't even read one page of Twilight, actually. Don't really intend to either :P

I read the entire cycle, but I wasn't as crazy about it as teenage girls were. Personally, I did not find Edward at all attractive (shiny cold bodies do nothing for me). However, the author's style of storytelling was engrossing enough for me to read all 4 books.

But reinvention is necessary if they want to stay relevant. I do agree that BSB's newer sound isn't their best, and not very true to what they were (but remember, they did have a fair number of nice dance hits), but lots of artists have reinvented themselves pretty successfully. Britney Spears, for one. Personally I thought BSB taking on adult contemporary pop/rock was pretty good, but then they decided to go the dance route. Oh well.

True, very good point there. Guess I'm focusing on the negative aspect of reinvention, I viewed it as 'selling out' instead, when an artiste abandons their musical style and start trying something hip and current where they'll make more money. I've noticed that I've got this underlying contempt for that sort of thing :P

But yeah, I really admire it when a band tries to be different, and stay true to their music, instead of hopping onto the dance/club bandwagon. They might not have number 1 hit singles, but they're also capable of selling records and filling stadiums. Just look at Mumford & Sons, or Arcade Fire. The former plays folk music, their album has sold more than a million copies in the States, and has been on the Billboard Top Ten Albums for what seems to be for half a year now. Arcade Fire play indie rock, and recently won the Grammy for Album of the Year.

Sorry, digressed quite a bit there. Hahah
