Hello boys and girls, :)

Haven't been posting (or even lurking!) here for a while since I've been quite busy lately. However, I just saw an article about holding back gifted children on time.com and I thought about recom (can't understand why though ;)).

The link's here:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101040927-699423-1,00.html

Just wanted to hear the thoughts of other recommers on how they feel about this topic in relation to the Malaysian education system and any personal experience which mirrors the ones faced by the American kids being held back by the system.

Will post my own thoughts later. Need to run now. Work awaits. :P

hey dude,

i glanced through the article just 3 hours ago,at Time magezine.didn't find the reason to read becoz:

i dont believe in gifted kids/geniuses.

american system of education is different to the compress, comprehensive education system we have in malaysia.

well, yeap, standard 1 will be useless when most kids nowadays have standard 3 math when then entered primary school but come to think about it,having the knowledge equal to those 2,3 years older than you is not a promised that you will do well socially with them or else will be happy being flanked by them.

plus, what u gonna do if u graduate from high school at 12 or 14?u will ended up taking 2,3 majors in college just to be 18 and worth working.

being smart is not a promise u will be good mingling.take ur time to grow becoz u grow by making mistakes and achieving success.skipping a year or two makes u less grown up.

well, going to school and having to "learn" things that you already know is boring. how to "take time to grow" when you can't sleep in class? :P

better than flunking and graduating at 30 because you're bored with the material and didnt do the work.

I don't think grade skipping is necessary unless if the student is really way better than the others. Like phantom said: "having the knowledge equal to those 2,3 years older than you is not a promised that you will do well socially with them or else will be happy being flanked by them. " It's better to have children of the same age (or roughly) in the same class.
