Hi all,
I was thinking of pursuing my studies in engineering,
but until now, I don't really know which field of engineering I want to take.
So, I was wondering, which one would be better:
UM with JPA scholarship (not sure if i'll get it yet) in Asasi Sains Fizikal or
UTP with Petronas scholarship in Chemical Engineering (which i'm not sure if i'll come to like it)

And for some reason, I just feel like I should go to UM. :-?
Don't know why...

Wow, are you so confident that you will get JPA?

Well actually I meant to say IF i got JPA, :P
Not being over confident though because I got 9A+,
it's just that there might be a possibility for me to get it (even though i forgot to do the psychology test XD)

But Asasi Sains Fizikal, after taking that course, only you will continue with doing Engineering?

The way I see it, since you got Petronas scholarship, you will definitely be doing Chemical Engineering under their sponsorship.

Meanwhile, for UM, it's not guaranteed that you will be doing Engineering after finishing your Asasi Sains Fizikal. What if they didn't give you a place to do Engineering but gave you something like... I don't know, something.

Do you mind me asking, are you SURE you want to do Engineering?

I've been into engineering since I was a kid so I think you could say that I'm pretty sure that I want to do engineering.

And I thought we could choose the courses we want after finishing the asasi? Or have I been thinking wrong... :huh

Anyways, just checked the UM website and they say that we can take these after the Asasi Sains Fizikal:
?Engineering
?Science
?Science and Education
?Computer Science
?Information Technologies
?Architecture
?Quantity Surveying
?Building Surveying
?Estate Management

Right, so engineering then. But if I'm not mistaken, you can apply for any of those following courses after your Asasi Sains Fizikal, but whether or not you get them is subject to availability and how well you did in your exams.

How about the bond? Are you bonded with Petronas if you take their scholarship? How many years?

Yeah, to get what we want, we must always excel right?
But the problem here is that I don't really know what engineering I want. XD

They said we would have to work with them for about 5 years.
But that's only if we get a job from them.
If they don't offer us a job, we're free to go, but we have to pay 20% back to them.

Wow Kairule!!..
I was offered University Malaya - Asasi Sains Fizikal also via UPU application.
So, I hope to see you there ( If I didn't get JPA scholarship ).
xD.~

If you don't know which one you want then it's best you go to UM. Since Universiti Malaya is considered prestigious and lots of students vie to get in there, there shouldn't be a problem with the quality of the education there. It still comes down to you though, you'll have to do your best to get the course you want.

There's a bond with JPA too but I don't think there's much difference.

UM's Engineering & IT faculty were ranked 160+ in the world ranking last time I checked.
So I guess it wouldn't be that much of a difference going there right?

The only difference between JPAs bond is that if they don't have a job for us, we don't have to pay back anything at all...right?
