Hi all!

I have just heard about the Juzt-Reboot Recovery Card recently, and thought of the prospect of purchasing it.

I am quite impressed about its recovery technologies, however, I am still doutbful about it.

From the website, it explains that it is able to recover from hard disk crashes[not hardware-wise, but software-wise], is able to recover your CMOS, etc. It is also an experienced software tester best friend, as the tester can test all kinds[all kinds?] of software on the OS, without having to worry that the system might crash.

Some of the recovery technologies works like RAID to me[correct me please if I am wrong :D ], such as the HDD backup, HDD backup with recovery.

Do you have any idea how this works? I went to the website but the explanation was too vague.

littlebigone,

The Juzt-Reboot Recovery Card fits nicely into your PCI expansion slot. You should also configure it later. Other than that, I don't know much about it.

okay...just seems sketchy.
I don't see how it can "remember" and restore everything without maybe forcing some backup onto your disk. (not necessarily mirror. Maybe just simulate RAID 5 or something like that.)

Or maybe it prevents crashes or bad stuff from happeneing.

Hello all!

Sorry for the late replies :)

Yes littlebigone, I agree with you. The Juzt-Reboot Recovery Card explanation seems hazy. It must have some kind of a backup/RAID-like[though not similar] technologies corporated into it.

Im impressed with it. I think if it is used in conjuction with the RAID Server, the data realiability will double.

:D Anyway, this is just my thought.

What say you all?

I don't think it works like RAID at all. Check this (http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=110) FAQ out for a concise explanation on RAID.

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks - which means that for it to work anything like RAID (at least RAID1 for reliability purposes), there has to be something on the card that can store all an extra copy of data and update it in real-time too. I just can't see how a PCI card can do that without using any form of magneto-optical memory.

There is no way you can store gigs of data on solid-state memory - at least it's still not practical now.

So what I'm guessing is - the card can probably store the boot information of the HDD and of the CMOS. In any event of data corruption/failure, it'll just restore the last-known good backup copy. But if you lose your fav. MP3s/assigments/movies, no, I don't think this card can help you.

Think of this.. if it works that well, wouldn't everyone be using it already? I can't find a single proper review of this product, and that says something for a product out in the market this long. :?

I guess for our purposes, the best way to ensure data "reliability" is still to backup often and just run a RAID1 array if all you care about is just reliability for your desktop, not increased speed.

Hope that helps.
