An EE reporting. This is my first year, 2 months into the course.

Found the course highly interesting. Current subjects are Math, Physics, Intro to Programming and Digital Systems 1: Fundamentals. Will be taking Algorithmic Problem Solving, Electrical Circuits, Applied Math and Physics B next semester.

Planning to specialise in telecommunications.

EE stands for electrical engineering rite?
I heard someone saying that the telecommunication era is going to be over. What's everybody view on it. How is the market's demand in this field for the next decade?

I graduated as an EEE but my experience after that isn't a traditional EEE one I suppose. I worked on data communications for my Masters doing embedded systems programming for the Intel Network Processors and then joined Intel for 2 years doing the same. I'm now working on wireless sensor networks.

My opinion is that after graduating as an EE, you can branch out to many fields. My underlying training as an EE definitely gives me an edge developing embedded systems compared to the CS graduates as I understand the hardware better.

Smilehoe> Who says the telecommunication era will be over? How can it be over? It's pervasive and it's all around us and will probably be here till the end of humanity. If you removed all the "tele-" communications equipment, you'd have to revert to writing letters. Now, who would want to hold a pen again? ;)

You're 1000000 % correct on that. He doesn't know what's he talking about.

I graduated with Bachelors and Masters in EE emphasizing in RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuits). I'm a RF Test Engineer testing wireless devices (all ICs) in cellphones, GPS, GPRS and etc. My group does testing for wireless companies like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Portal Player, Triquint, RFMD, Skyworks and etc. I get tons of exposures on state of the art wireless ICs. I design hardware, software and test solutions.
