Hi everyone,
I note that there has been a wave of new threads on essentially the same issue in our forum. For example, for the current scholarship controversy, I found five threads as follows:
Scholarships a Malay special right, says Perkasa
PSD shatters brilliant student's dreams - Free Malaysia Today
Stay out of scholarships row, Perkasa warns MCA, MIC
Abolish race quota for overseas scholarships, says Indian NGO
Nazri says never promised scholarships abroad to all top scorers
These threads all belong to the same issue, namely "the JPA scholarship distribution controversy". Please be reminded of the content of the tick box you select every time you start a new thread:
You are about to create a new thread. What is it about? Is it a very unique issue you think no one has ever posted about? Are you sure? You are not sure? Try the search box on the right to see if someone has already posted about it in existing threads. How about posting a reply there instead? Forget about creating a new thread ... unless if you really cannot find anything on the issue/question/idea, or if you are one of those stubborn people who think creating a new thread on something that has been asked 1000 times before is cool (it's not!).In ReCom we treat each thread as a discussion or debate about an issue, not a *Facebook wall where each link to a news article serves as a new leadpoint for a thread of comment, regardless of their related nature. It is probably justified to post a new thread for a different scholarship, but it is not justified to have five different threads on the same thing, ignoring the tick box you click on every single time.
We will leave the current redundant threads alone, but in the future we will not hesitate to lock or merge redundant threads. We also urge everyone to use the report button in the redundant threads to bring it to our attention.
Thank you.
*Note: An interesting tidbit. ReCom has existed longer than Facebook!
