I read with horror the news about a Malaysian student being tortured in Russia. I read this from LowYat forum...:

Anyone studying in Russia currently? How is the situation there? I've heard about the violence in Russia , but this is the first time I came across the pictures in the Internet.

He just told me last week that his friend from Msia got beaten up by a gang of Russian seniors. Now he's rather scared.

gruesome enaf, but i'll still hav d appetite 2 devour my dinner :twisted: . yup, i also know sumbody who was attacked by a group of russian teenagers.this happened quite a long time ago, in late 2002.dat guy is my fren's boyfren.they took his money n he was badly beaten. dunno how teruk, but quite almost unconscious jugakla...dat happened in d fasting month. luckily his handsome face is still intact :wink: he's under jpa. i think d embassy was informed bout it, but they could not identify d 'barbarians', so no action was taken against them.
well, my friend studyin' in russia (volgograd) also told me dat majority of the russians r anti-foreigners.i dunno how terrible d situation is, so lets juz pray hard 4 their safety. any1 from russia here in recom?maybe u can tell us d real scenario there.i'm quite worried 4 my fren.

Wow....but strange enough...no reports on news whatsover. Cant the malaysian government do something about this?

i say it's the student's fault. believe me or not? he's one of those rich kids who persue medcine for the sake of it. and he show off amongst russians. c'on man, it's russia, who won't hit u if u so kepo kepo show off in front of them? serve him right.

Well, cases like these happen everywhere in the world. I say a little logic and sense would make a lot of difference. Regardless of where you are studying, safety should not be compromised. Use your common sense!

yeah, i do agree with trishotiwuth. i mean, if you are in a foreign country, you should really really be moer careful. dont take things for granted. and usually there's this kinda hatred towards foreigners in most countries. So yeah, you got beaten up, too bad. not anyone else's fault but yours. :wink:

i'm not in russia, but i heard cases like that. the main reason is, malaysians there caused themselved beaten up. we heard of someone in the same town whose sons' got beaten up till he broke his arm. pity...

the thing is, as long as you respect them when u're in other places, u get the same respect. never go against their culture, that's how you ended up like the pic.

coz i heard that someone was again got beaten up....

but as a foreigner in foreign country u better be careful...not only in russia
u ought to take serious precaution,bring a pepper spray if possible....

I can assure u that it's 100% true lorr.. my fren juz returned to msia because of all the stuff that's going on over there. I'm telling you, there are thing that are actually happening but are not reported in any newspaper. to those who are studyin there right now, take care..

I'm very surprised and shocked to hear all this! And the agent who send students to Russia for medical programmes got the nerve to say that its a very nice place where the people are friendly, nice environment ect ect....of coz the course fee is very attractive...but its so dangerous to stay there....I mean u can get beaten up or killed anytime there....so how can one study in peace there?

In russia they've just gotten freedom and they dont know how to act. They dont have anymore kgb to deal with hooligans. They can just do what they want and they dont have any jobs. They probably dont even know you're malaysia or where malaysia is. They just know you're foreign and then they just hit out.

This is why religion is so important in society. These people are basically non religious or there religion teaches them no respect. They dont know how to treat people of other religions and other races. That is why in malaysia it is so good for everybody. The islam taught in schools is just the right mix so that everyone can respect one another.

You're saying that Russia is morally decadent, well I do wonder - what about Malaysia too. There are lots of news regarding students who come to Malaysia for studies and end up getting cheated, and in worse cases raped and killed. Like that girl from China some time back. But I don't think the reasons are anti-foreigner sentiments.

Maybe its because Russians are not as acceptive to the influx of foreigners as generally thought. I think such resistance against foreigners happen in many countries such as for Germany and Australia too. Those that have studied there may attest to the racism happening around there. So those studying in Russia... best to get some Russian friends for support :P
