I bought a microwave rice cooker, and it's really easy to cook rice with it. Just follow the instructions: put the rice, add the right amount of water (they have a table for it, one cup of rice = one and a half cup of water and so on)...Need about 15 mins to cook 2 cups of rice.

Yes pandaboy you are right! Just get a microwave rice cooker and you can cook rice easily. I tried once but I found that the rice are not fully cooked. I guess it's because the time for it to cook is too short.

I always use 12:34 (12 minutes 34 seconds) at full power for 1 1/2 person's portion (I eat that much rice :P). Never fail me :)

LOL.. Steam a bao in under 2 minutes.
1 plastic takeaway bowl
1 plastic takeaway sauce bowl (any small kind that will fit into the larger bowl)

Turn the small bowl upside down and place it on the base of the larger one. Put your bao on top. Fill the large bowl with water till approx. halfway up the smaller one. You've just made yourself a microwave version of steaming! :) Steam bao for 2 minutes under medium heat.

is eating microwave food often bad for you? or is it an unfounded fear?

unfounded fear.

Instant microwave latte, my formula:

1) get a mug.
2) put the desired amount of sugar.
3) pour cold milk to 3/4 of the mug.
4) put 1 teaspoon of powdered coffee (or however much you like)
5) microwave at full power for 1 minute (might need a little bit more than 1 min if its a big mug)
6) take out, stir and enjoy.

beats the hot water & condensed milk coffee anytime.

In Comparative Study of Food Prepared Conventionally and in the Microwave Oven, published by Raum & Zelt in 1992, at 3(2): 43, it states

"A basic hypothesis of natural medicine states that the introduction into the human body of molecules and energies, to which it is not accustomed, is much more likely to cause harm than good. Microwaved food contains both molecules and energies not present in food cooked in the way humans have been cooking food since the discovery of fire. Microwave energy from the sun and other stars is direct current based. Artificially produced microwaves, including those in ovens, are produced from alternating current and force a billion or more polarity reversals per second in every food molecule they hit. Production of unnatural molecules is inevitable. Naturally occurring amino acids have been observed to undergo isomeric changes (changes in shape morphing) as well as transformation into toxic forms, under the impact of microwaves produced in ovens. One short-term study found significant and disturbing changes in the blood of individuals consuming microwaved milk and vegetables. Eight volunteers ate various combinations of the same foods cooked different ways. All foods that were processed through the microwave ovens caused changes in the blood of the volunteers. Hemoglobin levels decreased and over all white cell levels and cholesterol levels increased. Lymphocytes decreased. Luminescent (light-emitting) bacteria were employed to detect energetic changes in the blood. Significant increases were found in the luminescence of these bacteria when exposed to blood serum obtained after the consumption of microwaved food."

I never believe the myth that the radiation from microwave oven will make the food becomes carcinogenic to human. Nevertheless, after reading the above article, my phobia starts to arise. Perhaps it could really affect the nutrien of food and cause harm to human body. And plus, sometimes don't you have feeling that microwaved food somehow tastes worse than normal cooked food?

Please clarify it and drive away my fear...

There's no doubt that the microwave oven has been very convenient to those leading a busy and hectic life. However, I really dislike food cooked using the microwave merely because the food loses its moisture due to resonance of water molecules inside. If you don't believe me, try microwaving a bun (or pau) and leave it in open air. You will be amazed with how hard the bun will turn out to be!! So, considering steaming it instead. Buy a portable electrical steamer. It's easy to use and are more portable than the microwave oven. And it's healthier too!! That's what it actually matters right? Healthy and delicious food! Another interesting fact to share with those who actually bothers to read this 'wuliao' post of mine.(thank you very much for tolerating my 'wuliaoness') It is dangerous to boil water using the microwave oven!! Especially if it's being microwaved too long a time. The water molecules of water itself(of course la...haha) will resonate at such a high frequency that it may bubble and overflow like a volcano erupting when you place an object into it. Microwaved water will also burn more severely than normal boiling water... If you have the guts, try it la!! Haha...WARNING: Please don't try this at home even with an adult or a group of adults supervising you!! Well, that's just for laughs...It will keep you healthy together with the delicious and healthy food u get with the steamer. Mind you, I'm not a product ambassador for any electrical or steamer product companies..Thanks again for reading..
