I love music as much as the next guy and I'm always open to new suggestions. I know there're already several existing threads where you can list down what you're listening to but I think it would be great if we could introduce some structure to the process. Hence, I have created a thread where you can recommend songs based on genre.

There are only 2 cardinal rules in this thread.

1) Recommend only 1 song per genre. This is intended to make the recommendation more meaningful.
2) Nothing mainstream. That means no Bieber, Gaga, Bieber, Bruno Mars, Ke$ha and Bieber etc. Also did I forget to mention no Bieber. Ugh. If its mainstream, then everyone and their mom has probably heard it so thanks but no thanks. Not looking for obscure music here, just nothing mainstream. Besides, much of today's MSM is just repetitive mind-numbing crap filtered through autotune. But that's a different topic for a different day.

Anything else is fair game. I've supplied 10 genres/categories to begin with along with my own recommendations. Feel free to sub-divide the genres if you like (although that kind goes against Rule No. 1), e.g. Jazz -> Bebop, Vocal Jazz, Latin Jazz, Big Band etc or Classical -> Baroque, Classical, Romantic etc. You can also add new genres/categories if you like... Indie, Musicals, Opera, Oldies, Religious, Salsa etc.

Artiste you wish more people listened to: Eva Cassidy. People Get Ready (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ-gqfAaHos)

Blues: Covered in Rain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89L86yWdWkg) - John Mayer Trio (More like blues-rock. JM is the shit. Don't really listen to his mainstream stuff but he does the guitar as much justice as SRV or Slowhand.)

Classical: Nocturne Op.27 No.2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cxkLZoEFEk) - Chopin. (My favorite Chopin Nocturne)

Country: Travlin' Through (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx_I-byng78) - Dolly Parton (Not a fan of country. Country is one of those few genres I'm legitimately disdainful of.)

Great song/piece for playing on a guitar (Not really a genre. Just genuinely interested.): Blackbird - Beatles

Great song/piece for playing on a piano (Same as above. Anything from Chopsticks to Rachmaninoff goes.): I Giorni (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uffjii1hXzU&ob=av3n) - Ludovico Einaudi

Jazz: Mercy Mercy Mercy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRrFWp4DUho) - Cannonball Adderley

Non-English: Pata Pata (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUPEEAjKvrI) - Miriam Makeba

R&B/Soul: Sitting On the Dock of the Bay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCmUhYSr-e4) - Otis Redding

Rock: Great Gig in the Sky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBabMxnFQsQ) - Pink Floyd

Enjoy...
