Undergraduates in public universities may soon be able to earn some extra cash when certain jobs in these institutions are reserved for them. Higher Education Minister Datuk Shafie Mohd Salleh said here today that all university registrars would be directed not to fill all the job vacancies in their universities.
He said there were many non-essential jobs, like library assistants and in the audio-visual department, which the undergraduates could fill.
"If students could assist their lecturers in setting up projectors and other equipment, why not give the job to them instead of employing someone from outside?"
