Is the NBA the only big league that people follow?

Finally i see another basketball fans here. Some must know facts about basketball and it's development in Malaysia.

1. NBA is the only big league that Malaysian follow. The MBL (Malaysian Basketball League) was ran for 3 seasons before its operation was ceased a few years ago due to financial constraints. In Asia, CBA of China and PBA of Philipines are the 2 highest level basketball league.

2. In Malaysia, Chinese is the major ethnicity who involved in basketball. Nevertheless, there are 2 non-Chinese players in this year SEA Game basketball team, one being the captain K.Satyasellam(25) and another Pujabi player who is only 19 this year. There is a national level basketball competition which is only open for non-Chinese player to improve the popularity of basketball among non-Chinese.

3. The major sponsor of MABA is Petronas, which is approximately RM 1 million annualy. The amount is so sad relatively to the sponsorship that BAM and FAM get... :cry:

I played basketball for my school although i am not very good at it.
Basically i prefer 3 on 3 street ball rather than the full court game. The fast pace and the atmosphere make me exiceted when i am in the court compared to the full court game - i hate to run all the way down but fail to get a point :wink:

me basketballer too :) but can never play well coz never practise - can't dribble, always catch ball, then decide either to pass ball or shoot ball...

haven't found anyone who like full court game - always no breath! (speaking like a true hermit in the computer labs)

maybe we can all meet up to play one fine day 8) one.. fine.. day...

finally, a bunch of guys i can talk about bball to. Anyway, i've been playing bball since .. i forgot. Not that it matters. I am more of a full court player, coz fastbreak is fun. I m a Spurs fan, coz Spurs really play as a team, and studying in Austin, TX..u either root for Spurs/ Mavs/ Rockets. play bball 4/5 times a week.
one more thing, if anyone is forming a team for midwest 2004.. i think i can play for your team.

by the way, Spurs will be the NBA Champ once again!!!

beng han: I'm from Penang. But i used to play in Klang when i'm studying in KL. I play in Eng Ann and Klang Club.

Marquis: I'm a Spurs supporter as well, sometimes my friends call me Tim Duncun, but i wished i could play like T-MAC. He is really cool. :)

I think i play better in 3 on 3, as you need a lot of experience and stamina to play a good full court game.

Hope we can play with each other 1 day. So must train hard now to avoid big belly... :lol:

Sad that in Malaysia we don't have High School Basketball League like Hockey.

And we don't have a Uni Basketball League in Malaysia as well. All the IPTA Basketball team just compete once with each other during the MAKSUM (correct me the name if i'm wrong) only....

MABA seems impotent since Dato Loke Yuen Yow lost his political power.
