For all the IE users only, please do yourself a favor and install Googlebar (http://toolbar.google.com/) <-- can the admins please make the default font of links bigger?

'm sure many of you have already installed this but I'm also sure many have not.

Instant access to a great search engine, effective pop-up blocker and the oh-so-convenient Autofill to ease the pain of filling up forms!

Of course you could also use Mozilla Firebird which already has all these functions (save for Autofill, which can be installed as an extension) built-in :D

Matter of fact, I already have googlebar! I think I may be giving up some of my anonymity each time i use it but i suppose it's no big deal.

Fact: Google was created by Larry Page, a Michigan alumnus, together with some Russian fella while doing their graduate studies at Stanford. They're still running the company.

So Page has been prominent Michigan alum #2 for today, after the Unabomber. Actually he's #3 if you count Stan Lee. :D

Nite everyone!

You can completely turn off the part where you are required to "give up" your anonymity. If that can't be done, they wouldn't be as popular now :)

Hey guys.. I just started using Modzilla Firebird last week and it rawks! It's faster than IE especially when you hit back or forward. It makes my life easier especially when I'm surfing the slow friendster. The only problem is some scripts that work in IE don't work in Modzilla eg. the colorful scrollbar. But that's not a big of a deal, speed is what I go for.

Mozilla does play flash files. Flash files work fine on my pc. I don't really know how to help you with this, i'm also a new user of mozilla.. I barely remember the time I install the plugin on my pc. However, it shouldn't be a problem.

You are way paranoid man... If you are talking about Internet Exploder yeah I understand, but Firebird is built to be pretty safe.

Oh sh1t I've just hijacked my own thread 8O

Instant access to a great search engine, effective pop-up blocker and the oh-so-convenient Autofill to ease the pain of filling up forms!
okay popup blocker .... now what happens to ReCom instant messenger ??????

okay you can turn it off but I'm sure that will take two to three clicks to toggle it ... guess what? the browser I'm using is way better if you still want to see to IE cutely rendered pages which turn plain in other browsers ... and plus you get all those listed there .. an instant search, popup blocker, flash blocker and image blocker - all togglable using three buttons on the toolbar, form autofiller ... plus multitabbed surfing (and the tabs are rearrangable), skinable, grouped favorites (save multiple sites in one link), autosave windows on exit (i bet none other browsers have this feature - it saves u lots of time) ... you name it ... owh and it's FREE (kick Opera out) ... and now for the name of the winner browser ....

AvantBrowser

get it from http://www.avantbrowser.com ... I love it so much and I already donated some $$$ for its development ... right now they release upgrades quite oftenly ..

AvantBrowser is still based-on the swiss cheese IE engine. IE engine is also not standards compliant.. nah too lazy to elaborate more.

For all the features you mentioned, there are extensions to support that feature. Keep in mind that Firebird is still in 0.7, which means it is still in beta.

If you wanna suggest another browser, do so in another thread man!

AvantBrowser is still based-on the swiss cheese IE engine.OK so what browser is Googlebar for? IE, right? So ppl who download Googlebar are those who still use IE, right? (or do they install Googlebar for the sake of installing and then use FireBird for surfing?) .... I already know from the 1st day that AvantBrowser is based on IE engine but what's wrong with it? if IE is that bad then no point suggesting Googlebar ... ok maybe you'll say Googlebar is to make IE better ... but you could always try new browsers ... we already have threads suggesting FireBird, Opera etc etc ... but still some ppl still stick to IE .. why? b/c IE renders all nice CSS/HTML effects that other browsers just ignore ... that's why I mentioned "if you still want to see to IE cutely rendered pages which turn plain in other browsers" ... anyway, sorry for ReComMending a new browser in your thread ...

.... p/s: I still don't understand ppl recommending something but not doing/using it ... recommend Googlebar but not use IE ... recommend Winamp 5 but use foobar2000 ... can you practice what you preach?

My recommendations are for each to its own. Yes googlebar is only for IE right now. If there is googlebar for Firebird (developers are considering it), I'll definitely use it just for the Autofill feature which I prefer to Firebird Extensions'.

If you still prefer to use IE, then Googlebar is an excellent tool. As I've already said, IE is full of security holes and more is discovered on an almost daily basis. IE is also NOT standards compliant, which means it renders page the way MS wants it to, not by the standards set by W3C (world wide web consortium).

If a page doesn't render properly in Firebird but renders OK in IE, then I can guarantee you that the page is not properly coded. Just try to validate the code in W3C and you'll see (HTML, XML, CSS etc). If a page is coded correctly, it should show exactly the same thing on all browsers. To ensure that everyone follows a common standard is extremely important for web development.

If you wanna stick by IE/Avant/others, that's fine by me. Of course, Firebird is not without its flaws as some of you might have already experienced, as it is still under heavy development. If I have to see these pages, I'll still fire up IE. Just that Firebird is my main browser now.

As for Winamp5/foobar2000, foobar2000 might still be kinda arcane for a lot of users and one of its main strength is its simplicity, which means it doesn't have fancy skins like Winamp. Many people still want all the bells and whistles and that's why I don't explicitly recommend it but merely mentioned it to show that there are choices.

Winamp5 is still a great player in its own right, and I just announced its release as Winamp5 was very highly anticipated. Personally, I'd still be using foobar2000 for the simplicity and for kernel streaming. It's all a personal choice!

Whatever I've said, no offense man! :D
