just read about how new service like uLocate, Wherify can actually track the cell phone owner location constantly (updated evrey 2 minutes)

for me this is totally a privacy disaster. it's not that i always do "illegal" things or what but the feeling that you are being watched while you go out just make me feel so sick. it's as if another kind of prison. imagine u r hanging out with your friends and having fun and suddenly ur cell phone rang and ur mom said, "hey it's time to leave that cafe. come back home. i already told u not to go this place, blah blah"

of course i can't deny its advantages on children and old citizen (especially those with Alzheimer disease). but i do think this should not be used on normal and healthy adult.

just wondering what u guys think about this and IF somehow your parents decided to do this to u, how would u feel and how will u react?

if you have watched "Enemy of the State", then u will know how the feeling. For me, I hate that being monitored.

If my parents decided to do this, and the only way for them to track me is using handphone, I will turn off my phone when I need privacy, simple as that, no arguement involved.

welcome to the real world! :D
even when you are surfing the net, you are watched all the time...
everything flowing in the network can be detected eventually...

in the US, it is even easier to track a person from address, phone, credit cards, internet, and everything else ... for example, i just call for food delivery and they know my details (address, name) once I give them my phone number.

Also, when you apply for supermarket's VIP/ customer card, not only will they have your personal information such as address and phone number, they will also have a statistics of what food/ items that you have bought...

it's so easy to track people nowadays...
i hate privacy invasion too ... but too bad, it's hard to run away from it ...
unless you live in an insolated place ...

i think the service is optional. You can easily turn it off.

In fact, I think normal cell phone in Msia can trace our location too although it maybe not that accurate.
I still remember that we can know which area we are in by the station aerial our cell phone is connected to. The location that we made any call in fact is recorded so that they can charge us according to that.

I think some cell phones in Japan have the similar function.
Some of them have GPS mapping which means you can send a map of where you are to your friends so that they can find you easily when you are meeting each other.
By the way,
Is uLocate an open site?

The better technology we have, the less privacy we get. I think this is inevitable.
But to choose between technology and privacy, I think most of us will choose the former.
