hi.. i'm andrew here.. im currently under a dilemma whether to take up any tuition or not for lower 6 since i did quite badly in my spm and can hardly score in any of my science subjects. as you all know, form 6 will be starting on 17th of may..i barely have any time left to revise any of my form 5 stuff. i wanna know..if lets say a student like me that only understands the basics for all the form 5 subjects..will i drop out from other students if i dont take up any tuition? can i really self study and achieve good results in form 6 without the need of tuition? cos tuition is kinda tiring for me and leave me very little time to revise my studies myself.
thanks.

form 6 requires a strong thorough understanding of SPM work........if u didn't really master ur SPM work, form 6 will be tough on u, u won't have time to go back to the basics as there are just too many new things to learn, things that build up from ur SPM.
why don't u consider doing course thta are less demanding like a diploma or other pre-u progammes that are less exam oriented like CPU, SAM etc.....

i did thought of that.. but i really want to further my studies at a local university as it will cost me much lesser than those private ones. i did asked many for their opinions and most of them said.. as long as i work hard during my f6 years.. i still can achieve good results.. they even said that f6 is like a new start where everyone are starting from a same level regardless how well he or she did in their spm.. i also did went through some of the f6 revision books and from wut i see.. they are all starting from the basics and gradually build up.. hmm.. i really wanna know is there a slight chance for me to excel in f6 if i really work hard?..

well if u r weak, u may need to work doubly hard......though form 6 syllabus starts from the basics, that basics requires ur work from SPM, it won't go true all the basic stuff like what u have gone true in SPM, it assumes that u know what it is talking about.
so to maximise ur chance to get into a local U and a course of ur choice, take 3 subjects that u like in addition to PA.

hmm..interesting thread you have here.....
i would like to ask u first to consider what tuition does for u...i think a lot of ppl have a misguided view on what tuition is for...i still believe that tuition is for extra practises only and not really to learn....that's what teachers and classes are for.
even if you went for tuition , without understanding the basic it'll be quite useless.....and what you'll learn in the end is just drilling...basically presented with this problem you follow these measures to solve which is not good...may be applicable in SPM but certainly not STPM....STPM requires u to have a basic understanding of concepts and application of concepts..i.e. questions may not be seen before..models are brand new so you need to know the basics or the principles behind such stuff....its really interesting to see how they apply all the knowledge to different situation
my advice, do self study...try to understand as much as you can and try out the different questions in your bookz, get help from friends and teachers if necessary...when i did stpm i find having a peer group extremely helpful, they would laboriously explain to me the concepts and basics behind what i was doing and fix some of my notions which were wrong...as a results, i scored full a's with perfect score in 2003

kelvin
hehe.. thanks kelvin.. i dont think i will be taking up any tuition for the mean time.. there's another thing that i wanna know.. do revision books explain every single thing to help me to understand a chapter?.. can i just merely read those revision books and understand clearly about a certain chapter?

No book can cover EVERYTHING from A to Z without missing an N or a Q here and there. I would recommend buying two books and see how two different authors (or more) elaborate on the same topics. Of course buy those good ones.
hehe.. icic.. g2g to the bookshop now.. :D
no one will know whether u need tuition or not......until the need arises....
success is a combination of a few things, ur intelligence, luck, effort, teachers, friends, environment..........

Wow, you must've set a record for the longest gap between replies. What is that, like, 4 years?!
Yeah, anyway, I'd recommend that you go for tuition, because unless you perform better by self-studying, it doesn't hurt to get some professional help. Just make sure you get a good and reputable tuition teacher. And try not to sleep during tuition. I've seen plenty of people do that.
Still, I'm not too fond with the concept of tuitions......

Hello, Just to share my thoughts here since i am so free now. feel like it has been a while since i last log in at recom.org.:P
Well, tuition is somehow deemed as a need if students find they can't really catch up with their school works, if you have a lots of things to settle and have no ime to revise your next lessons (the chapters that are going to learned the next day) or the chapters that have been taught but you still don't understand, then, there is a need to attend tuition classes.
While there is a need for students to tuition everywhere and at anytime, please ensure that you guys have the passion and the devoted heart to attend tuition. if you find yourself wishing to learn more and to have a strong grasp of concepts for a certain subjects ,then i can reaasure you that tuition will benefit you greatly. :)
