I just switched my computer from Windows XP to Windows 98 SE because of security problems. I restored the Internet connection (Streamyx) and I tried to enter www[DOT]hotmail[DOT]com but failed. I cant even enter the MSN site at all. The loading time is very long and end with a failure message. Then, I noticed other problems :
a) The connection is slower. I do not know if it's the Streamyx problem or MY problem.
b) I cannot enter a lot of sites. Hotmail, MSN, Microsoft are examples of them.
c) I cannot re-install MSN and have to resort to using Trillian instead which is more inconvenient. I want my MSN back.
d) I cannot check my Hotmail. So, the ReComers maybe sending me something and I wouldnt know a thing about it.
Please help me by giving your opinions. Thank you.

Sometimes hotmail cannot be reached, being in a state of "server down".
after I upgraded my MSNM to version 7.0
I can't log on to it most of the time.
and many times I cannot receive my friends messseges, nor I can receive thiers.

Albert, perhaps as a short term measurement, you can create an email account using Gmail for instance.
And then, try to search online, or seek help on this matter.
I don't think I have the knowledge, experience or expertise to advice you on the technical aspects.
Hopefully fellow ReComers could help you.
Could it be our isp's fault ? I noticed they changed the ip we get to acces the internet today. It use to be 219.95.*.* but now its like 60.48.*.*

I don't understand what kind of article you read or what kind of advise you received to convince you to put Windows 98 back on to your box... Windows 98 is the buggiest piece of operating system ever written in the history of mankind, perhaps besides Windows 95, which is even worse...
That's what I thought anyway - hopefully you have some compelling reason to do so.
Check to see if your ISP require you to set some stuff up (either set your IP address manually or make sure that it's set to allow DHCP servers to give you an IP address) - your problem seems to be the connection to the internet, and I don't understand why you can still post to ReCom if your internet connection is dead...

I had the same problem a few days ago. I could sign in into messenger but i couldn't check my email(a blank page appeared with the words JAVASCRIPT REQUIRED). I tried checking my email using my bro's comp but it didn't work either. My bro could check his hotmail email with his comp. So the problem must have been my email account, not my comp.
I was very very worried because i had to check my email for my uni admission results. Anyway i used my bro's comp to change my password and after that all was well and i could check my email. (it took me 3 hours!) But then, my comp was infected by the trojan virus too (i found out when i sent my comp for checking when i couldn't sign in into messengera few days later)
Perhaps the virus got through my email, and damaged my comp and affected my email account? I really don't know, i'm quite computer-illiterate. (actually, VERY computer-illiterate)

I think for who the problems in virus, trojans, spywares etc, the crux lies in the prevention rather than the cure.
This article "how to fix mom's computer (http://scribbling.net/how-to-fix-moms-computer)" makes a good read for those who face these problems. It covers a lot of areas including firewall, antivirus, good browsers, in terms of both prevention and cure. It's all written in layman language, so everyone can understand it.
