I'm planning to get my self a speaker for my cd player and (sometimes switch to computer).
I wonder what standard should i go for? Is 5.1 alot more expensive than 2.1?I heard altec lancing is good....is it?Or are there any other brand?

I'm also uncertain whether my Sony cd Player (portable type) will able to handle those subwoffer ?Is amplifier needed?

i dont think u need a 5.1 for CD players, since the audio will only be stereo (dual channel). but of course ur 5.1 will make it sound better since it's usually bigger. but it's not necessary. if u're planning to use it to watch movies, i'd suggest u to get a 5.1.

for the same brand and same quality, yes.

remember that u can only discover the full potential of your 5.1 speakers by playing 5.1 kind of audio like Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS, which is common sound formats in DVDs.

well, if u have a Dolby ProLogic II receiver, thn you'll feel the 5.1 effects from an audio CD.

if u get a 2.1, i'm pretty sure u'll only get one jack, which is just enough for that kind of player. and u dont need an amplifier since big speaker systems commonly have their own power supply and built-in amplification unit.

but it's still depends on how u wanna use it and what u're looking for.

oh well... depends, again, for the same brand... it will be 100%... or maybe more... if u want a good, mid-range, 2.1 speakers... i recommend VS.4121 by Altec Lansing... i got 2 sets... 1 back home in my room, 1 here in the states...

got it for RM 229 last year at PWTC pcfair... got another in the States for $68... although it is relatively low watt..., it is amazing...
