I think it depends on the network conditions at that time too, so if the network has less users, you'll get relatively more bandwidth. or at least that's the case for Streamyx, correct me if i'm wrong. try downloading stuff at 4am in the morning and do the same on 6pm in the evening. you'll probably see what i mean. ; )

read this:

the speed not only depends on your connection but also the connection of the server.

If you are using bittorrent or other P2P softwares, then it may be due to different number of people sharing the file at that time and also their bandwidths.

i also agree to youngyew, because when i use bitcomet, it slow my internet speed to 1/3...

not only streamyx throttle bandwith for it torrent. Many ISP do, including those in USA.

Also there's a streamyx forum there, maybe you'll get more answers there. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/seasiabb

the bandwidth also depends on the servers along the way to your computer...

if there are a lot of servers that needs to be passed or one of the servers have a very slow reaction time, it will limit your transmission speed dracticaly too...that? why some sites that offers downloads also gives the options of using their mirrors...

a mirror is a server that houses the same site content but place in different places around the globe so that people everywhere can enjoy fast transfer speeds :)

so next time when you need to dl something, do choose the server that is nearest to you..most probably in japan, australia, taiwan or singapore...

and that applies to bit torrent also...when most of the seeders are far away, you will also not get the optimal speed...

hope that can clarify some of the questions in your head :)

Got a question:

I was trying to configure a Win98 (I know it's a dinosaur), to access internet via a dial up. Though i got the connections (which is clearly visiible with the modem and the network status), I can't seems to access any website.

It's something wrong the with browser (Internet Explorer) or was my speed to slow?

Thanks. PM me if u need to.
