What is BIT TORRENT?

Like all new streamyx users... I have been trying hard to download some Japanese Anime but I am not able to see it. Although it is an avi. format, but I do notice the link also consist of "torrent".

Does anybody out there knows what I should be doing?

By the way, I heard that Final Fantasy VII moview is out... which is why I am try very hard to download it.

bit torrent is a standard for sharing files across the internet...

the difference is that is that it uses the tracker files with the .torrent extention and a software that uses the tracker to find other users that are also sharing the same files over the internet...while you are downloading the file, you are also one of the contributors of the file, is, uploading for other users while downloading at the same time :)

this enables bit torrent to be one of the fastest way of sharing files, the more users downloading the file, the faster it is :)

not all files which are shared are illegal. for instance, if you go to

www.animesuki.com

they do now publish animes which are licensed. hence, nothing is illegal there. there are websites, where they put links to movie files, licensed animes, etc though... therefore, one cannot simply generalized that this torrent concept is clean or wrong. it is similar to the internet by itself - it depends on how it is used :)

i am using azureus, which has been working well so far. although, the only comment i have is that it uses too much of memory (somehow it loads up java thingie and that takes up RAM). is this the case for other torrent d/l programs also?

i would recommend using ?Torrent (http://www.utorrent.com/). Low memory usage and only 83KB in size!

not all torrent programs uses java, azureus does, hence the momery usage...

I saw it just yesterday over a local PS2 stall.

p/s: FFVII:AC is superb, fabulous, magnificent, <insert good adjjective here> ... the graphics (of course), the soundtracks, even the ending song is catchy (I have the full MP3 :P) ... the only not-so-satisfying thing is the length: it should have been much longer! Sephiroth, Kadaju and the gang died too early .. :P err, I think we should make a thread for FFVII:AC don't you think so?

p/s for p/s: err .. i did stop downloading anime but FFVII:AC is an exception .. but I got it from dcc hub, not bittorrent :P

yah..seriously people still use bittorrent..in fact..i use it heaps..well..i do not know of any other way to download anime..and a lot of anime websites use bittorrents...my brother suggested this to me a few years ago..so im still stuck with it..unless u guys know of alternatives?

Isn't the above movies licensed in Malaysia? It will be illegal for you to download them. :D I don't know. Maybe you can use google. Type keyword like 'i not stupid+bittorrent'.

huh... please no more new animes. i am currently stuck with two - naruto and bleach. the two themselves dah cukup to fill up my harddrive. if only dvds are as cheap as cds...

i use vlc player... it is a really simple but powerful player, and it's free... with quite some codex...(so, it can play many files that Window Media Player can't)... go google for "VLC player"

vlc player can play the avi files and the ssa files simultaneously...

to those who have finished watching FFVII:AC, what do you think about the 2nd part of the ending credit? Do you think it's CGI or real? I have the feeling that it's real guy riding a modified bike. (Who is that Cloude???)
