I have a December 3rd date for ASIAN scholarship test. Can anyone share with me with information on how the exam is being conducted, and how to prepare for such exam?
I would appreciate any current ASIAN scholarship's holder help on this matter.

Hi Yahoo,
Firstly, congratulations on getting the offer for the selection test.
As stated in the letter, you will have to sit for 3 tests for General Abilities, Maths and English.
I am not a ASEAN scholarship holder, but I did go to the selection test in KL last April. Their test was not very tough, especially for those who just completed their SPM, people like you. However, you will find that the questions will be more about thinking, rather different than SPM questions. But don't worry, you don't need any Form 6 knowledge. The Maths paper will consist of 1 paper of around 20-23 subjective questions (no MCQ). English paper will contain both comprehension and an essay to answer. The level of English in Singapore is very high, so give it your best shot. General Abilities will be a paper on IQ. 36 MCQ questions in 40 minutes. You will have the advantage if you have taken the MENSA test.
The situation can be quite intimidating, actually, if you don't have any friends with you there. However, if you are prepared, you don't have to worry.
Have fun and all the best!
PS 1: It is ASEAN scholarship, not ASIAN.
PS 2: If you have any further problems, post it in ReCom.
PS 3: If you don't mind, please introduce yourself. If you have already done that, you may ignore this.
PS 4: For the maths test, NO formulas are given to you. Perhaps that's the only memorising work that you have to do. Some questions may want you to derive simple formulas.

I'm a former ASEAN Pre-U scholarship holder, and I'm still on ASEAN now :P
Ok regarding your questions:
First, this is what happened in my year. You go to the venue and you bum around until it's time for the tests. You will be assigned a seat number (but I don't remember whether this is the same now). After which, everyone proceeds to the exam venues and they take General Abilities test. There will be a briefing and QA session, then lunchtime. After lunch come the Math test, followed by the English test. Then you are dismissed. I think it ended around 5+ pm if I'm not mistaken.
As albert said, the 3 tests are actually quite challenging if you're not exactly used to English or if you haven't been exposed to more thinking questions for the math section.
Here are some tips:
Memorize as many formulas as you can for the Math paper. Like albert said, there aren't any formulas given. However, in my year they did not have too many questions that were heavy on formulas. The difficulty is in the reasoning sections, questions where you will need to reason out the answer are the toughies.
For the English section, just treat it like your SPM English paper with the difficulty upped by 2 levels. For the essay, don't expect any story type of questions. There were 2 questions for my year, and they were the argumentative/factual essays type. So my advice for this section is to read up on global events and take note of certain key moments in this year. In my year, 2001, the question I did was on "Ways to improve airline safety from terrorists" or something along those lines. Post Sept 11 airplane craze anyone?
Now the General ABilities test is really like an IQ test. It's a test of your logical and reasoning abilities. If I remember it correctly you are given 3 images that are in a series. The fourth image is a blank and you have to choose one from the options that is next in the series. My advice is go and practice on logico-deductive IQ tests because this one is really easy if you have practiced it before.
Hope it helps, and good luck! Hope to see you in Singapore one day :)

umm...i don't think he/she has said if he/she's applying for the pre-u or secondary school ones.
i was an ASEAN scholar since Sec 1, so the tests for secondary school entry are just maths, english & logical reasoning. shouldn't be a problem for most..perhaps english would be more difficult than m'sia's, otherwise should be fine.
