Petronas- Medic = Jpa-Medic

just came back from the orientation programme in agrotek,hulu langat.

wow! trust me .. petronas treated us as we were VIP, young ambassadors to be specific. we stayed in chalet, provided with 6 meals a day, freedom to 'mandi sungai', karaoke etc ...
it was really fun, xcept for the lectures keke...

back to the topic, i just found out that petronas has actually transferred the contract of medic students to the government, meaning to say, they r not bonded to petronas unlike other petronas scholar doing engineering/commerce.

it's quite sad actually getting to know this, but hey, those medic students are still PETs. and having the chance to be under petronas surely make them feel proud.

this yr we had only 5 student out of 66 doing medic (entrance using trial results). its quite an intense competition to get in though. Neway, don get discouraged, those interested in medic under petronas would definitely have other string benefits.

hmm... actually i wrote to the head of the scholarship department thingy appealing for a scholarship due to certain reasons...

anyway, i got a reply from them and they said that they will not be sponsoring any students for medicine OVERSEAS.. they'll only be sponsoring students for medicine locally...

i received this letter in february 2006

but of course things change, kan??

maybe not. there are rumours that PETRONAS and JPA may reduce (if not completely scrapped the plan of) the number of students (for 2006) applying medic to UK or other high-expense courses.

urm.......me too have heard a rumors about? petronas not sent medical student to overseas anymore.......and jpa also will not sent medical student to UK. Because the cost for one UK medical student. jpa can sent two medical student to australia........is it true?

A word of advice.......you if are aiming for a JPA scholarship........please do something.

One can easily get the costs of fees from the Australia Uni and UK Unis from websites and make a comparison.

The part about JPA not sending students to the UK is absolutely not true.
They WILL send students there, but places are limited.
Ireland and UK bound students add up to a total of about 50 (This includes dentistry, pharmacy, and medicine)

So, i guess that there should be around 20 places for medicine, around 10 to Ireland and 10 to UK each year.

In the Uni where my sister is studying medicine in midlands, UK, there are 12 JPA students (all Malays) studying medicine (joined in Sept, 2005 batch), first year now.

And this is only 1 Uni in UK. We have not taken into account the JPA medical students in other Unis in UK!

let me say something here, JPA do send students to overseas, but last year, two of friends who has got the offer in engineering course has been told that their destination will be new zealand. but fortunate or not, one of them got an offer from cambridge and now he is struggling to convert the scholarship scheme so that he could study in UK. well, he has tried like 10 times untill now, no news yet.

- wahts the problem here?? how many people do you think will eventually got offer by cambridge which also had to go through interviews ... so, count the chances that you will be offered to UK.

another story, LET say A friend, B friend and C friend. three of them got the scholarship for MEDic ... A friend and B friend being offered to INDONESIA while C friend GOT offered to AUS but she can only go AUS on her final year. As for my A friend who had always scored the highest mark in his COurse, fell to appeal to go overseas - such as AUS.

now, we turn our view to PETRONAS scholarship. last year, which is FIRST EVER YEAR, MISC join the party sponsoring students. seats are limited. but but but ... here comes the interesting part, THEY ARE ALL guaranteed a job after they graduate.

what i can say now, even petronas scholar now cant get to UK. but at least an open option is given to USA, NZ and AUS. this info is the latest obtained from my friend "again" studying GEOSCIENCE in mara banting for IB (international batriculation).

he said last year, his seniors whom had actually got offered from UNi of MAnchester received a sundden "red light" by PETronas and ready to pack their bag to New Zealand.

so, PETRONAS scholarship will be your main priority to aim ON!


AS for MISC scholarship just now, 80% of them will be sent to OVERseas which is CANADA AND UK! nice right? well, MISC is the best scholarship so far in the YEAR 2005 because scholar of MISC even get to study their foundation - a level and SAM in TAYLOR C. haha ... how nice is it ... payment is fast, less "traffic" unline PETRONAS and they even book your flight tickets for you ...

so another tips, ask whether MISC is offering any of not from PETRONAS - ESU. then, AIM on it. ( i knew all this from my friend also who are going to study NAVAL archictecture in UCL, UK. what he told me that is, MISC is only offering once only so whether or not this year, not sure).

so, YOU guys out there, CHECK it OUT! dont tell me you all dono what is MISC stands for ... get a live!! check in out! then you will realise how big the company is other than PETRONAS.

jpa is trying to cut cost to the max...as for medic students be ready to be send to any part of the world...i mean indon,russia.india...if you applying medicine bear the fact that you can be sent anywhere...be prepared for it....but remember jpa wont be sending their student without checking the quality of education there,,,so dont wory much...uk wld mostly be twinning....but if you with 17 A1 its a whole different story....aus...maybe you have to do it in monash malaysia,..for a while...and undergo ausmat...india...twinning with manipal...melaka.after a levels(ktt sepang.last year)..indon...a levels...at kutpm(last year),russian..3 months preparation at intec....
