Have any of you been through discrimatory practices by institutions of higher learning in the UK, Australia and the US?

The above is an interesting website that portrays a drop in the number of students going to the UK.

a drop isnt necessarily due to discrimination.

One can't help feeling that because most Asian students look to the West for a better education one can be misled to think that West is better. However, from previous media expose on how students were treated down under from being burglarised to being exploited one can deduce that this can be a real problem. The notion may be doubted.

I do agree when it comes to certain issues....

In terms of academics(UK), I would say some universities are still better than what we have here. Take Oxbridge, imperial and a few.

The article doesn't have anything to do with western ethics. does it?

contrary to the report, foreign student intake over here in Imperial has risen in fact!

I believe the article only applies to lower and lower-middle teir universities.

Top universities will continue to attract foreign students.....that is a fact.....

obviously you can't compare university of northern iowa (no offense) to University Malaya. I would say, with 90% confidence, that UM is better.

you should compare the best with the best. UM can't even compare against the top 50 (dare I say top 200?) unis in the west, let alone the best.

seem to have hit a nerve here.
Yeah, both of you are right. It's not obvious.
It's more of a value judgement from me that it's better to be in the top university in your own country than to study in the bottom 100 university in a foreign country. If University of northern iowa is not a crappy school, then I sincerely apologize.

I think the article speaks truth but again think about the discrimination in Malaysia itself i think they are on par.

However! To be a Malay(the race) and go to a Local University is ofcourse bounds and leap better then any other West University with the exception of very few top schools.
