View Full Version : UTAR
UTAR is still a very new university in Malaysia and my parents want me to consider about it since it offers scholarships. However I am not sure about this and hope there would be any recomers who has heard anything about UTAR or who has studied in UTAR.

I heard from a student studying there that the standards were low and she did now really enjoy her time there.
Secondly, the methods which are used to pick their lecturers can be debateble as the quality is sometimes questionable.
New universities usually go through teething problems and the management came across as pretty arrogant and stuffy. One would ask then if they are approachable by both students and staff.
I have nothing against UTAR but there are certain things which we need to know.
UTAR was set up to provide education for all, so if you meet the minimum requirements, you are sure to get a place. Which means a student coming in with a CCC will be treated as a student who comes in with an AAA.
UTAR doesn't have a screening system which should be expected in all competent universities. A typical university in Britain would ask for ABC or something similar if one wants to do engineering. With such requirements, the university would have an atmosphere of competitive study which is relevant to the standard of the university.

u can always visit their website to find out. www.utar.edu.my
they have lecturers recruited from ktar as well as abroad graduate
well i can't help but to agree with the replies posted here.
it's a private uni so entry requirements are low though , i believe some enrolled below the minimum requirement.
another words easy to enrol and withdraw.
other uni too offered scholarship
I know the other uni offer scholarship too,but it just that I heard UTAR or KTAR graduates are more appealed in job market and that they get jobs before they graduate.

Well, i searched everywhere at the UTAR website but i still can't find it. Can someone post me a direct link? All they had was a general requirement, not degree-specific ones. And they had the audacity to say "please check website for detailed requirements".
Anyway, my lecturer also told me if i'm going to do private, try to go into UTAR. I guess removing the money out of something hopefully makes them concentrate more on teaching.

ktar link with their universities couteparts in UK if i'm not mistaken, so
graduates from ktar might stand a better chance jobwise as their exam are Uk based meaning external papers.
however utar is new and the exam papers are prepared by the lecturer themselves with the guidance of certain reference books.
bear in mind that i'm not saying that utar's standard is low , it's just that how the questions are set determines ones way of thinking.
8O 8O 8O
UTAR has moderators from Cambridge, Harvard etc.
If it is so, students who did their studies entirely in the UK stand a better chance than KTAR graduates to be employed.

The minimum requirements are well.....passes...
