Can anyone of you do me a favour? Can i know GENERALLY what is the process to apply for US college/university? I have sent emails to a few colleges but none of them reply me back. I am going to sit for the Toefl exam on 21th of feb which is just a few weeks left and i have to report my score on that day as well after the exam.

My problem is when should i apply for the admission?
Take Toefl exam ---> Apply for admission ---> Send my transcript OR
Apply for admission ---> Take Toefl exam ---> Send my transcript OR??

and another problem is i don't know what that hell they mean with the "transcript" and they said the transcript have to be in English.

Transcript = report card

It doesn't matter which ones you send first, what matters is which intake you're applying for.

The deadline for the Fall 2006 intake for a lot of American colleges was January 1 2006. However, some other colleges might have a different deadline. Check up with your colleges on their websites.

I take it as your are intending to apply for admission for fall of 2007.

At the end of the test, you will be asked to name four institutions to which your scores will be sent. i believe most universities will keep the scores for one year so it is ok to name them even if you have yet to submit your application.

Generally, universities would require applicants to submit the application before a certain deadline, they will also specify the deadline for which all your academic transcripts must be recieved or postmarked.

Transcripts are your certified copies of SPM/O-levels, A-levels/STPM results, secondary school report, teacher's reference etc.

But then if i am not mistaken, most of the certificate written in Bahasa, who should i approached to translate it to english? I intend to apply online and my problem is i do not know when should i submit my transcripts, and izzit by mail or email or..??

By the way, i intend to apply for fall of 2006. Right now CUNY and SUNY are both my choices as they tuition fees are the cheapest at new york. Any opinion?

Go ahead if they are still accepting applications.

An english teacher would be fine or if you are feeling rich, you can approach MACEE or British Council or canadian education centre or IDP Education Australia or any of the above country's embassy for them to translate it for you. you can also go to the high court, there are translators there. The most official one would be a translated version of the original cert which can be obtained from the lembaga peperiksaan(beware of bureaucracy)

Your part of the application would be online(biodata, personal info, essays etc). The transcripts will be sent over by mail(preferably courier). Submit the documents before the deadline.

erm... there is another problems that i encountered, why we need to "request for transcript" from the college when we need to send our transcript to them?

Ok, I know this is out of topic but may I know whether the rest of you who applied to Harvard for Fall 2006 admission got an email from the university informing you that your application is complete? So far I have received none from Harvard. I received emails from all of the other universities I applied to around middle of last month, so I'm a bit worried.

That has nothing to do with you. It has to do with current SUNY students requesting for their University Transcript! Check where you are going to!!

Thanks for reminding me. Do you guys know why i could hardly found any Electronic engineering courses provided at most of the US college? Instead i found a lot of colleges offer Electrical Engineering. Are both of them are regarded as the same course in US? weirdo...

I know nuts about engineering except that there are not many schools that offer electronic engineering. It seems to be a more specialized form of engineering compared to electrical. Check out with those engineering kids. ChenCHow is one I know!
