With broadband penetration in Malaysia is growing fast, I am curious to know what are fellow Malaysians, especially fellow ReComers (who are the younger generations with internet access) do with internet. Do you utilize internet as a learning tool? Do you utilize internet to search for information/knowledge that you need? Do you use internet to keep up with the latest happenings in the country and the world? What are you utlizing internet for?

Perhaps, we could share in a simple percentage ratio, how much time you are using for each purpose while you are online? And what I mean to survey is time that you have full flexibility online to decide what you would do.

Email: 25%
ReCom: 15%

E-Learning: 15%
Find Info: 10%

Meeting: 5%
Leisure (Friendster, Facebook etc): 5%

And I hope to have this thread for us to share how we can utilize internet as a learning tool. A good way to start would be via ReCom Elearning, where you would have access to lecture notes from many universities in the world. And of course, you should utilize Wikipedia as an essential source of information, as well as Google.

I fully utilize You Tube as my learning tool. I learn a lot about anime storyline and oversea video parody.

In such a conservative country like Malaysia I find internet to be the best place for sex education. :)

I have learned tonnes of skills using the Internet. I learned how to play the guitar, html codes and some French.

All with an Internet connection.

I also learned mathematical formulae, read large amounts of free online books..whoa! Just by plonking my butt in front of the computer.

I can't exactly state how much time I spent checking my emails, recom, latest news and others. I multi task a lot. Firefox has been my saviour for introducing multi tabs!! Thanks Mozilla.

Well, that's about it.

the internet is an awesome tool of learning. I've learned a lot from wikipedia. Without wikipedia, I will never get 1A for English coz I've learned many of their style of writing and uber-complex terms.

Then, I think most of us are aware about illegal ebooks/emagz. I learn a lot from that too. Coz, first I read the ebooks, than I borrow at the library (coz it's nicer to read papers than words on the screen, especially for books with 500+ pages). No, I don't read the whole book. I just read some cool chapters. (hohoho, i'm such a geek).

And then there's all those super cool Malaysian forums like Recom. Issues discussed here are real issues instead of "Erra Fazira can't live with her husband" crap i get from some news. I'm more aware about the world/Malaysia thanks to portals such as Recom.

school time, that would be twice a week.... each time, maybe the most is 3 hours. i guess when i go stpm, i'll only online on sunday...

it's cool when you have internet connection. You i had a problem* with my internet connection and i was unable to use the internet for 3 weeks straight. Damn... I was like some psycho. CC sux coz they usually care more about the gaming shit instead of the internet connection. Then, I had to go to my dad's office. Hehehe

But yeah, now i have my internet back. So i'm ok now.

p/s: sorry to be a bit off topic right there

I use a relatively large proportion of time online in email, recomming and learning stuff. I am an e-mail freak, so I always leave my gmail open and read whenever there's a new email. As for recomming, it's both entertaining and intellectually-rewarding. For online learning, I have been using the Internet since 10 years ago, and recalling how much I have learnt through the net, what I can say is it's simply amazing. I can still remember how Internet has evolved from the era of 33.6K Modem, 56K modem, ICQ (doubt whether new Internet users today know what it is), Yahoo, online gaming, personal homepage craze (I learnt HTML and created a tacky personal homepage), to Wikipedia, online journals, online lectures, blogs etc. Today the Internet is such an infinitely rich resource of information, and I can't help but to think how I managed to live without it.
