No one knows what Zatch Bell is?

Okie, this anime is eponymously titled. There are two worlds - the mamodo world and our own Earth. A mamodo is a pendek little person with magical powers. (Zatch has electric and magnetic powers like the Zaker spell - electric attack, Rashield - magnetic shield and Jikedor - orb that magnetises opponents.)

As the story goes, every one thousand years, one hundred mamodo come down to Earth to battle each other to become king of the mamodo world. Each mamodo has different spells because each mamodo has their own individual spell book.

However, mamodo need human partners in order to use their magic. In battles, human partners will guide their mamodo, shout out the commands for appropriate spells that are found in their mamodo's spell book as well as avoid the enemy mamodo's attacks. Mamodo are unable to use their magic unless their human partner gives the command for the spell.

Also, the longer a mamodo remains on Earth, the more powerful the mamodo becomes because he/she learns more spells that appear in his/her spell book over time. If a mamodo's spell book is destroyed in battle, the mamodo is defeated and returns to the mamodo world with no hope of becoming king.

Zatch's partner is a dude called Kiyo. So together, they have to defend themselves against the relentless onslaught of mamodo-king-wannabes in Zatch's quest to become king himself...
