hey guys, my PC emits a strange ticking sound and no sooner after that, it shuts down all by itself... A friend reckoned that the problem has something to do with my harddisk....anyone here knows whats the problem...i tried reformatting my PC but still the bug stays....

Uh oh...your friend may be right. The last time my friend IM'd me that her pc was making a strange ticking sound, next minute she was wailing that she couldn't access her second hard drive. It crashed..

Better back up your important files quickly while you still can.

Yeah, it would be advisable to have a few copies of your important files i.e. pictures, documents and musics. For me I have a few copies, in my home computer, in my laptop (a separate drive), and in my external harddisk.

usually ticking sound refers to the hard drive... so make backups of cour data NOW....

it is also probable that it might also be caused by your fans in your computer... one or more might be failing... so do have it checked out...

sillyboy, i had made correctionis to my original post... it's not fans on your hard drive, it's fans in your computer...

given my tendancy to make silly typos, please correct me if anyone spots any advice i gave that seems broken or illogical.... ;)

anyway, you can check for the source of the noise by opening your case and listen to the directioni from which the noise is coming from... that will give you a clue on the source... ;)
