Just want to know do i need to install an anti-spyware software if i already have avast in my com? I downloaded avast home edition few weeks back, but lately i am facing some DCOM exploit attack out nowhere, and this is killing me as it is causing high latency during my gameplay in blueserver. I feel like doing something to avoid getting the brand "lagger".

So. . . Which is the most reliable and powerful (and free) anti-wares softwares to download?

And in my hardisk rests a trojan who keeps coming up no matter how many times i clean it with Avast. Can anyone teach me how do i get rid of it without reformatting my com?

Thx for the advice.

I am not an expert, but as far as I know it's a good idea to run a scan *separately* using all adaware, spybot search and destroy, windows defender and spyware doctor. They have different criteria as for what is a spyware, and also different effectiveness of detecting spywares. THat's why we need all of them if you want to really clean everything.

By the way, if you have a particularly stubborn spyware, it's also advisable to get a dedicated removal solution for that particular spyware. One of the best examples would be the coolwebsearch.

Coolwebsearch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CoolWebSearch

Despite its name, it's an obnoxious spyware.

Wow. .they even have its data in Wikipedia?? Why can't I find virtumonde >.< .

And i found out the only way to remove this trojan is to purchase SpyDoctor's Pro Edition , or Ad-aware's upgrade. Oh well, since it is not causing much harm to my computer ( dispite the constant lagging in a game) I'll just have to quarentine this Virtumonde until i find a way to purchase the remedy online. . . i hope Avast and Ad-aware can temporarily quiet it down.

could be it's new? wait a few weeks and download updates for your antispyware stuff and then run em again

EDIT:
found a removal tool for virtumonde at symantec (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.virtumonde.html). google (http://www.google.com/search?q=virtumonde) is your best friend

one tip for you... most of the time, if you restart your computer in safe mode, it won't be able to run... i said most of the times, because i had seen one that is so stubborn that d poor guy had to reformat his com to remove it...

after you had restarted in safe-mode, run your regular anti-malware tools to remove it.. hope it helps..

p/s: to start your windows in safe-mode, press f8 repeatedly at computer startup until the promt appears, then select safe mode or safe mode with networking... :P

btw... anyone wants a thread which summarizes on the best security measures? if there is demand, i think i wil write one after my exams...

Wow. thx. Can't believe it's free!
I'll download it and see if it works.

Seehua, is scheduling Anti-malware tools to run before system starts similar to running them in safe mode?

what's a trojan n how does it 'attack' our pc?

no it'S not the same... at safe mode, most services won't run... so i don't think scheduling anti-malware to run at startup will affect safe mode... i might be wrong though... it had been quite some time since i ran safe mode with my own windows... :P

victorvandort: a trojan is a class of malware that masquerades as a legitimate software (like an antispyware) to smuggle itself into your computer.. it usually isn't capable of spreading itself, and will install a backdoor program which have malicious functions. Examples of such functions are like turning your computer into a spam server or monitoring your activity and report back to it's writer... so it's always better to be wary of the programs that you download from the net...

Hi, I tried out all the move before (my computer got hit by a virus and still currently is) but those never work. My virus name is wulik and I got 2 antivirus (Norton and Nod32). There keep omanage to scanned the virus but they could not removed it. The excuse they gave are:
Access denied

When I tried to find the infected files mentioned, I couldn't find them. So, is there any other way to remove the virus without reformat?

MORE ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER

its better to use one antivirus for sometimes they clash. I would recommend Norton but it uses lots of resourses, so now i am using Avira AntiVir. Try to have some anti malware software such as, Spyware doctor(the best), Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware. You should also try using firewalls, such as Zone Alarm, Comodo, etc. If u are lazy do install them one by one try security suite like Norton 360, or Zone Alarm Security Suite. For furter precaution, back up ur files and update ur computer.

In my experience the best anti trojan is 'hijackthis' and it's free. Just run it and it picks up many potential hazardaus stuff on your computer. The downside is that it's so sensitive that even normal files are tagged. As you already know the name of your trojan simply select him out of the list and kill it.

I also suggest you run a search in google and see what other people have talked about this trojan. Some trojans have another 'mother' file that spawns a copy of it right after it's destroyed.
