assuming all of you are using streamyx of course, try the speedtest:
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp
what were your speeds?
mine was:
1. 30 kbps dl
2. 71 kbps ul
I know that the dl speed should be higher than the ul speed, and the dl speed should read 256 since thats what Im paying RM66 to TM for. Is it just my comp, or are you getting ripped off as well?
thread moved to Hardware and Software issues --qedx
TMnet provides their service on a "best effort" basis, which basically means they are covering their behinds in case people complain that their service is bad.
we also have a congested international link which tmnet seems happy to stuff with more people.
and yes, my connection sucks too

A mistake a lot of us make is that we confuse ourselves (or rather the corporate guys are confusing us) between bits (b) and bytes (B).
As 8 bits make a byte, an advertised speed of 1Mbps connection should yield 128 kB/s download. Where best effort is usually 20 - 30% less.
So if your plan of 256 kbps yields a test speed of 30 kB/s, that's great.
I'm with a 3 Mbps plan in Germany and the most I've experienced is 200 kB/s download.

i think you should be using a local speedtest. try the one from jaring or tm-net.

run the test, it returns results in kilobits per second

why? i say run a speedtest that are geograhically closest to most of the sites that you are going to visit.

My RM 88 package claims to have 1MB/s download speed, during day-time, direct downloading can reach 80+kb/s, but BitComet could manage an average of 20kb/s speed only.
After midnight, the speed for BitComet would automatically jumped to a high 110 kb/s. What the heck ?? :?

I wouldnt say that my connection speed sucks IMO. Things load pretty fast and i dont think that i could ask for more, then i check what those in the states are getting from their speedtest. their mean dl speed would be around 2000 kbps and ul speed: 900 kbps. damn.

well, i suggested local speedtests since that's the speed you get from local servers. Since all traffic from Streamyx will pass through their main subsea cables to other parts of the world, you'll definitely experience a definite lag. There's no other way to optimise that unless they add more cables.
So, if you're from the US and you do a speedtest from Malaysia, you'll be complaining like crazy too. And as for day-dreamer, probably Streamyx is using bandwidth throttling.
And finally if you're waiting for ADSL2+, you'll have to know that the distance of the exchange from your place affects your speed significantly! E.g. I'm about 3km from the nearest exchange, and although I'm supposed to get 24Mbps, I'm currently only getting 3Mbps. See this:

weich, what's bandwidth throttling ??

So locations affect the speedtest results. You learn something new everyday I guess.
