I just wanna ask those who are studying medicine out there......

I wonder if u guys remembered every thing you've learnt ? For example, for those who are in year 3 of med school....do you still clearly remember what you've learnt in year 1 and 2 ?

I don't know about other ppl , but as for me - i'm quite good in memorising and able to score well in exams ...but the problem is...after the exams i tend to forget ..say...70% of what i've learnt .

I'm taking A-levels this year and i noticed that right after my AS exams(1st semester exam), i don't quite remember a lot of things....

Is this something that i should worry about ? Maybe it's due to the fact that i keep everything in my short-term memory bank ? Or is it because my way of studying is wrong ? But then..i'm able to score well in exams......*confused*.... I'm worried that i might be able to memorise lots of facts only to forget everything in the end ...

Hope to get good advice from med-students out there !

Thanks in advance

I am studying medicine now, and I can assure you that it's absolutely normal to forget some proportion of stuff after a major exam. And this is not a great trouble, if the condition is not serious.

For me, I would say that forgetting details after an exam wouldn't be detrimental to your career, because you will encounter details again and again en route to becoming a practising doctor. If the details is not etched into your mind for the first time, it eventually will, be it the second or the seventh time.

However, compared to memorising the details, I would say that it's much more important to make sure that you don't forget the concepts in your studies. There are concepts which should be remembered and understood well, because they not only help you to tackle all future exams in your way, they are also the keystones that hold your knowledge together. If one can memorise all the details in the world but fail to appreciate the concept behind the memorised details, he or she will not go far in appraising the vast knowledge.

i'm a medical student too and facing a similiar problem too!! Yeah, there're those who can still retain their info well past exam.. really make one feels inferior.. But a lecturer told this to me and its not long ago: that the lecturer herself sometimes forget her stuff and had to go back home to revise! now this lecturer of mine is quite well liked and knowledgeable.. this coming from someone of such calibre.. Guess that made me less judgemental of myself and those who're in a similiar situation as i am.. hehe.. so enjoy studying medicine and i couldn't agree more that concept is relatively important than memorising details.. (of course , if u can do both, that's the best.. hehe)
