Internet connection problems

I just bought my brand new CPU, but later at home I plug in the streamyx cable into my cpu, there are connection but no IP address etc. I still cant surf internet nor sign in msn etc...How can overcome this problem?Thanks in advance.

what modem are you using?

Have you set up the PPPoE.. where you have to put in your username and password to connect?
