Heya, I need some help here please. I just got a new computer n the spec is
Pentium D 820 2.8 GHz
MSI P4N SLI Mobo
Ram 2x1G dual channel
HD Seagate 160G
DVD writer
Winfast 7600GT VGA card

The problem is when I play a PC game for 1-2 hrs, it oftens shutdown by itself. Out of nowhere it just whoom..... out and I have to boot it again by pressing the power button. Nothing indicates before hand that its gonna go out. This happens 2-3 times for 3-4 hrs of gameplay. I suspect the power supply cuz I'm using the one that came with the case and it was no name and just 420W. I opend the case and there was some weird noise but I couldnt indicate where it came from. Not sure, but it's some where near the CPU and power supply area. I checked the CPU temp and it was at around 55'C VGA card GPU temp is around 55'C also. Didnt check voltages though. All the fans work properly. If any of you have suggestions please feel free to enlighten me. Thank u guys in advance.

You did not say what brand was it? Are there any customer services reps that can help you? Finally, is there a warranty?

It was a custom made, no brand. I didnt ask the customer service reps but all items have warranty. I just wanna pin point the problem first and see if I can get it fixed without having to turn in my comp and dont know when its gonna be back.

Hi, I am off topic here, but I would just like to let you know that it would be better for you to put up a descriptive title, something like "Help - computer hang while gaming". It would attract more people to your thread because most of the time people just wouldn't bother reading a random "need help" post. If you put up a descriptive title which summarize your post, that would help you obtain the information better.

Eerm, about your computer, since it's a custom made one it might be a conflict between incompatible hardwares. But I can't be sure, because I am not very familiar with this kind of thing.

if it only happens while playing games, could be due to the graphics card getting too hot or the processor. should be looking at cooling solutions or airflow conditions in your cpu.

get your power supply checked for voltage stability...

and if the shutdown happens at a specific time after u started playing your game, get ckeck your cpu heatsink whether it's firmly and fully in contact with your cpu or not...

good luck in your troubleshooting...cheers~

If you know how to get in the bios (ussually Delete button when booting up)

check under power management and disable the temperature auto shutdown. It could be an over sensitive heat sensor or it is set to low.

the problem might lie with the motherboard. Try to find out more from the manufacturers website. For example, some asrock motherboard has U-Cop overheating protection. Find guides to disable it. Nevertheless the problem might lie with ur power supply to. If its under warranty try changing it. You can monitor the temperature and voltage with free software such as Motherboard Monitor (mdm). Try finding tips to cool down the CPU, is ur casing ATX?
