Hi everyone,
Does anyone knows Malaysian students who participate in Co-op program? Or whoever has applied for co-op before? can you share with us here.

to Chen Chow: hei do you know if JPA allows us to participate in Co-op? right now I'm applying for co-op but it's really hard to get since most companies already stated in their ad that they prefer citizen and onl if there's shortage than they will hire J1/F1 students.

one more thing, how about summer intern? any recommendation such as malaysian/Malaysian companies bla2...that easy for malaysian students to apply....? i 'm applying to many companies but again they prefer citizen (for sure )..however one of ATU2 student got a summer intern somewhere at virginia, but she has 'org dalam', who is a malaysian who work at the company.

looking forward to get response, since IPTA/S already made it mandatory for their students to participate in practical training.

Hi oxm8,

Rais Imran, who is Lukman's roommate is going to participate in co-op this year. He has gotten acceptance from some companies. Jiin Joo has done intern as well, so do many more ReComers... So, I left it to them.

I think JPA will allow, as long as you can convince them of graduating in 4 years. If you can help them to save money, why not? Do apply for JPA approval early, half a year or even better a year...

I think it is possible to get some companies, not only Malaysian companies. Amazon, Oracle, JP Morgan etc have been conquered by various ReComers... I let them share with you... I think the main keyword is "network". Get to know people since long before you need to know them.

For Malaysian companies, esp those MSC-status companies, go to the following few links:-

http://sap.msc.com.my/default.asp
MSC Student Attachments Program

http://internship.mdc.com.my/default1.html
MSC Internship Programs

http://internship.mdc.com.my/practical.html
MDC Practical Training Programs.

Hope that helps.

Your school probably have something like a "career center" - They are your best source of information when it comes to internships and other employment opportunities.

Alternatively, you can approach companies by simply going to their websites and click on careers or jobs. Try to get an interview asap if you want to work this summer - time's running out if you're cpplying for OPT (if you're using CPT you're fine, but still, better a secure one before it runs out).

I know JPA scholars who do summer internship but haven't met one that did co-op yet. If you have a chance I'd say go for it! Administrative issues can always be negotiated, after all co-op earns you credits (as I understand - do double check) so you're not behind schedule to graduate.
