In life we have to make many decisions, for example which university to go to, which course to study in university and so forth. Not only in your studies, but in almost every moment of your lives you make decisions, whether they are tough ones or easy ones.

Similarly, a good chance comes along and it also influences your life, whether you have decided to take the chance or leave it.

I have made many decisions, good or bad, and chances (good ones, probably luck) comes along once in a while. Both really influenced the way things are right now.

For example, I had the chance when i was offered a certain scholarship, but decided to reject it because of certain reasons.

Which do you think influences you more? Good decisions or good chances? These are related to each other the way I see it, in the way that you decide whether or not to seize a chance when it comes along.

good decisions .

You are able to turn bad situations to good ones if you manage to make the right decision . Even if lady luck doesn't walk pass you , you are still able to achieve what you want by using what you already have to your maximum ability .

My current lecturer was offered a scholarship to do medicine overseas when she was young but she turned down the offer because she did not want to part with her boyfriend ( now husband ) . Till today , she has no regrets . Now , apart from being wed to a successful doctor , having a stable career , she has plenty of free time to be involved in community work . She is happy and contented with what life has to offer .

Not to say that i'm encouraging people to forgo their dreams for something else , but sometimes , you are not given opportunities to have the best of both worlds and there's a choice you have to make . Ultimately , the decision you make shapes your life .

Some people have all the luck . If you're not one of them , i guess the only way is to think carefully before acting , make the right decisions and be sure you won't regret later in life .

You cannot direct the wind , but you can alter your sail .

you as who you are now was shaped by the decisions you made in the past. similarly, the decisions you make now will shape your future.

there is nothing to regret, for there is nothing in the past to change, but you can change your future by making your decisions now.

mistakes? learn from it. successes? good, improve on it. Love yourself and what is around you.

whether the decision is good or not is not really important, for everything happens for a good reason...

Take the example from the poem by Robert Frost, the road not taken...

Because of choosing a certain road, it changed the persona's life forever.

Having good chances may change your life, but it all depends on luck, and they don't come along quite often for some people.

Even so, you will make a decision whether or not to seize the chance, so in the end, it all falls in your hands. You decision will shape your life.

It will take you a step up or a step down. I havent had much experience where good chances influence my life more than good decisions. So I think that you should see the example given by pupjello. Maybe other recommers will share their personal experience with you.

for every path you travel, there will be sacrifices to be made. It all depends on yourself on what is more important to you and what is not. make your decision based on that, and there comes all the difference...

decision or chances ?...ermm... i think i would like to share smthg here about my story..... I dunno whether i should call this a chance or a decision... Actually, last year i have been decided to take a course on actuarial science which is smth i never taught off before... i want to be an engineer but suddenly end up to take actuarial science... i have no choice because i have been offered an oversea program..so decision have to be made..i shouldn't let go the opportunity to study abroad even though i never learn econs and accounting in my life ( i mean in my secondary school ) and the reasons why im choosing this course is because of the missunderstanding while filling the application form.... so, izzit a chance juz because i got the opportunity to study abroad that i might actually wont get it if i choose engineering instead of actuarial science....or izzit a decision that i make that lead me to a fate that im taking actuarial science now ??... haha !!..

chances are shaped by the choices you made...

Yeah. It is your decision that takes you to where you are right now, because without decisions, I think the chances wont even work.

Can dreams always turn into reality? Mind sharing your stories here?

There are a lot of examples out there showing dreams will turn into reality if you just bother yourself to look. Here are some of the names:

Abraham Lincoln
Stephen Hawking
NASA moon programme in the 60s
Russian Space Programme.
Viking Landers (Mars exploration)

and a lot more.

@<hidden> nickvl: YES!! RELEASING INNER WORRIES!

referring to your question: My answer will be GOOD LUCK!

Okay, choice and decision is important in determining your future. Especially for fellow SPM-leavers, this is a crossroad that will shape and form our future.

When applying for scholarship, the most often word we heard is "Good Luck!" What i think that influence a lot is LUCK. Oh yes, a good luck person sail through every interview with positive replies and opposite might happen to those who are not that lucky.

Maybe the most pertinent part to me is Good Luck. When good luck comes, that's when you get to make a good choice or decisions.

But then ,some people say the harder you work ,the luckier you get.....:)
And the working hard part most of the time comes from making important good decisions ...
Just a piece of my thought.:laugh

opqr297 : advertising huh -.-'

luck do play an important role in our life, but I strongly oppose the thinking that people should depend more on luck than hard work. IMHO good decisions > good chances and through hard work and good decisions we actually create chances, and it is up to us to catch it on time =)

If we don't have intelligence and a smart brain, how can the luck play it role for us to go for prestigious university like University of Harvard and National University of Singapore?

So true. Though people like to believe that good decisions are more important because the idea that you, yourself, being able to have some significant control over the course of your life is very comforting.

Truth is, nobody ever know what is a 'good decision'. You MAKE a decision, the quality of the decision will then be determined by the aftermath or outcome of the aforementioned decision. You need good luck to make a good decision.

A 'good decision' would be that Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard and became a billionaire. But at the moment he wanted to drop out, most would think its a bad decision. It only became a good decision because he succeeded in the end. And if you're saying that Bill Gates' success has nothing to do with luck - you are very, very wrong.

Good luck seals the deal.
