1)I wanted to install a UMAX Astra 1220P scanner driver on my WINXP Professional ,but it appears the message as follow:

16 bit windows sub-system.

/windows/system32/AUTOEXEC.NT.
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.Chose "Close to terminate the applications.
How to run the driver in my WINXP?

2)My IE 6 is kept asking whether to "Work Offline" or to "Try Again" once I disconnect from the internet. How to disable this function?
Even Reset the Internet Options does not help.

Thank You.

there is no official driver available from the umax website, so i guess your scanner is quite a old model for it to run in 16 bit mode nowadays.

but i had found something for you that might work. Try the drivers in this page

http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/211491/umax-scanner-astra-1220p-vistascan-3.55-parallelport-free-download.html

as for your second question, that particular question shouldn't come up, but you are try enabling offline mode when you are offline and see what happens. When you want to reconnect to the net again, just disable the offline more... I don't know if my solution works for you, since i had been using Firefox for a long long time and only use IE for online testing purposes only... hope that helps...

cheers~

THANKS for the help.
But unfortuantely the OpenDriver vs355P.exe is what I have tried and downloaded and when I try to install the programme vsp355.exe the same
16 bit windows subsystem message pop-up and so I still couldnt fix the problem. This is actually what Computing.net has recommended too.

For the IE,I have actually tried using work offline function but the same message will pop-up again.Even resetting Internet Options wouldnt help.

Anyway, thanks for your help, please give me more replies Fellow ReComers as I need it to Scan my Exam papers.

Thank You.
