NOTE: This is an outdated thread and is no longer applicable since we migrated to vBulletin on 8 March 2008. It's only kept as an archive.
Welcome to ReCom! This is a "Getting Started" page, where you can learn the basic browsing and posting technique:
When you enter http://recom.org, the first thing you encounter is the main page as shown below:
** Main Page **
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6614/mainkx1.jpg
On the main page, there is a list which consists of "sticky" threads / topics and newly updated threads / topics. The sticky threads (in blue background) are threads that are designated to stay on top of the list all the time, as they are the most popular threads (e.g. Scholarship FAQ) and the general posting guidelines. As for the non-sticky threads, it is the list of all discussion threads* which are updated recently.
While this is the main route of browsing for most users, unfortunately it doesn't make sure you cover every discussion topics in ReCom. The main page only displays the last 15 updated topics, and due to the quick evolving nature of the forum, the topics which are "old" (in most situations this correspond to approximately 24 hours) will not be displayed on the list.
So here comes the solution: Enter the forum index. Referring to the image above again, click on "ReCom's Forums - Recent Discussions" to enter the forum index, as discussed in the next section.
*Note: Some of the topics e.g. topics in Post Hotel and Social / Entertainment corner is not displayed on the main page due to their high update frequency. If they are included in the list, it will be hogging a major portion of the list and hence occlude many other threads.
** Forum Index **

This is the forum index, where you can browse all the posts in ReCom throughout the history.
I have labelled a few important things in the image:
1. This is one of the most important link in ReCom you should learn about: "View posts since last visit". If you follow this link, you will be brought to a list of all posts since your last visit to ReCom. By checking out this link, you can be assured that you don't miss out on any single thread that was active since your last visit to ReCom. In fact, I strongly recommend everyone to save this link to your bookmark and visit this link whenever you check for updates in ReCom.
2. The "sub-forum" list. ReCom is a place for everyone to discuss everything under the sun, provided that the participants adhere to the guidelines and common sense in their posts. Naturally there will be many different topics, so the "sub-forums" are introduced to group all the discussions under major topics. Some of the major topics are Education, Join ReCom, Malaysia Today, Windows to the World, Social and Entertainment Corner etc. Note that there is a locked sub-forum (meaning that nobody except the administrators can post in that sub-forum) which is the Post Hotel - where all the deleted posts are kept for future reference. All the vulgar, insensitive, out-of-topic, insulting posts / topics are removed from their original location and sent to the Post Hotel.
3. This is an icon which indicates the status of that sub-forum. An orange icon indicates that there are unread posts in that sub-forum. For more information, refer to the bottom of the page for the legend of the icons.
Click on any of the sub-forum to enter the sub-forum page.
** Sub-Forum Page **

1. "New Topic" button: Click this to start a new discussion topic under the particular sub-forum. The other way to start a new topic is to click on the "new topic" button when you are reading a discussion topic.
2. Link to topics. In the sub-forum page, you will see all the topics under that particular sub-forum, and the topics are arranged in reverse chronological order (i.e. newer topic on the top, older topic at the bottom).
3. "Read the latest post" button: This little white icon is a useful link which is unknown to many. Basically its function is to bring you directly to the latest post in that particular discussion topic. This is very useful if you don't want to goto page 1 of a discussion topic every time.
That's basically it. Have fun browsing and reading in ReCom!
