I just build a new system using Gigabyte GA945GM-S2 mobo (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2331), Core 2 duo e6300, a seagate hd, and 2 pieces of kingston ram (http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator/PartsInfo.asp?ktcpartno=KVR533D2N4/512&SearchType=KingPNFind&submit=Search).

I get BSOD while installing windows with IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message, and I also get errors while trying to boot the Ubuntu 6.06 live cd.

I ran memtest86+ available on the live cd and it passes every test except test 7 which spectacularly fails with 1730 errors in 2 passes with 889 errors in 1st pass and 841 in the second pass. I ran it with only 1 stick in and I still get the same error on both sticks although I don't remember the exact number of errors on both these runs.

perhaps I should mention that I am using the onboard vga, and that the ubuntu live cd that I am using checks out to be correct and works fine on my other machines

So? Which part should I replace? I'm thinking RAM or motherboard. Suggestions please?

if you just bought all of them new and can get new ones.. do it.

In my mind, sounds like the usual memory issue. However the motherboard is new and as far as i can remember Malaysian retailers usually wont give you a motherboard before they test it at their shop.. so you can probably rule that out.

Also, if the hard drive in use is an old one.. do a full format not the quick format, it could be the system going baloney because of bad sectors arent flagged.

But damn.. this is just one of those errors that everyone hates.. just to many possibility and the process of elimination will take a lot of time, so, if possible just get all the parts replaced.

crossing my fingers for you.

Thanks man. I went to the shop and changed the RAM and... it's a no go. ARGH!!!

It's probably the motherboard then :/ or maybe the CD drive? back to the shop I go because I have no other idea what could be wrong. they charge RM15 for tests ...

Symptoms:
The Ubuntu Linux CD doesn't run properly or validate on that PC but works fine and validates on other computers
memtest86+ v 1.65 detects errors on test #7
There are errors when copying files from the CD to HDD during the windows blue screen setup but it completes (files probably corrupted)
BSOD when starting and during the gui part of windows installation (various error messages)

Was anything plugged into any of the pci slots?

If so, you might want to remove them and try.

alternately, you might also want to do a BIOS Flash. Sometimes that works. Good luck.

What digimushu said plus do a full complete, super long format on your hard disk. Get all the bad sectors out of the way.

Googling this error code seems to turn up a lot of results with faulty RAM modules. Since your system is new, there might be a problem with your ROM as well...

Try clear the CMOS first, and out your results here...
