I think I have post this up but the reply is mediocre. I am currently taking A levels in the science subjects. Physics, Maths, Biology and Chemistry. The problem is that the textbooks do not have enough information for my needs. So, can anyone recommend some reference books that would be helpful to those taking a levels based on past experience. Also, some recommended books on further maths would be nice too because I am thinking of taking it. Just in case anyone wants to know, my a level examination is the cambridge As + a2 level.

Hmm... can cope with so many subjects?

Your subject combination is already giving you quite a load to handle. Adding further maths to the combination... not sure whether you can cope with that. Plus, if possible, for further math, you need a teacher to guide you so that you get a better understanding. If you want to apply to top UK universities, you only need 4 core subjects. It's advisable not to burden yourself with too many subjects and eventually getting not so decent results for all. Focusing on 4 subjects and getting great grades for the four would be good enough to get you into most good universities.

Just my two cents though.

For chemistry i would recommend a big blue book called A-Levels Chemistry. For now, i can't find a link for an image of the book yet. i'll put them up later if i can find it.

Anyways, i would suggest that you drop either biology or physics depending on what you want to take later on and then take Further Maths. If you are going into the engineering field, it's most important that you take further maths so that you won't face too much difficulties when you are in the university later on.

Best of luck to you there.

My dear, I'm sure you're a bright and hard working student but taking an extra F.Mathematics will only burden you. Your combination is good enough to get you into most science based courses and some art courses as well. Don't overdo it.

English Literature or Literature in English? Make it clear dude, they are two different subjects.

As for sociology, I would recommend Haralambos, it has everything you need to know for your Alvls syllabus.

Economics, you might want to try Allan Anderton..

Common sense wise..I'm not going to buy all of them. Even if I did so, how on earth could I finish reading all these books within one year?? :)
