I'm goin India to study meds soon, after the 1.5 year A-lvls...I think Manipal is not bad, check this out @<hidden> wiki : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manipal
The weather is kinda like in Malaysia, tropical climate, day temperature range from 24 to 38 deg Celcius...not too hot or cold, :)

Yes, there is a March intake. Usually, application for any intake closes 1.5 months before the course begins. So, in this case, I believe application for March 08 intake closes on 31st January 2008. You can always contact the Melaka campus for any enquiries.

I didn't type the below, but here goes!
"i have a fren in distress who is goin to india to further her studies.. she is worried over the lifestyle in india.. and she literally begged me to help her look for some things she HAS to know..
firsly, she has very stubborn hair and she needs a hair saloon that provide her with everything a malaysia hair saloon can do. for instance, rebonding service.. may i kno is there rebonding service in india?and is it the same type of rebonding here in malaysia? if yes, how much does it cost? if it is only available in a few cities, what city is that? (she will be very thankful if anybody is willing to answer all this.. anyone who has been to india can answer these questions?)
secondly, is the accent there difficult to understand? "

Btw, I'd like to ask...we JPA scholars can oni apply for Kasturba Medical College or any meds college at Manipal or Mysore only? Can we try for the All India International Medical School, AIIMS?
First, let me talk about AIIMS.
"MBBS course
Every year AIIMS accepts 45 students, of which 33 belong to General Category and 11 belong to the reserved category (SC/ST) and 1 orthopedic physically handicapped, based on the results of an all-India entrance examination for its MBBS program. The number of students who take the entrance exam every year varies from 70,000 to 80,000. Five international students (nominated by Government of India) complete the class size of 50."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_India_Institute_of_Medical_Sciences
So, that explains it.
As for the choices of medical school, every year, JPA tries hard to get as many seats as possible for Malaysian students. The Government of India is imposing stricter rules for these medical schools to reduce their quota for foreign students and give more seats to the locals. That's the reason why some of you who have been offered to study in India for the full 5.5 years might eventually join the Melaka-Manipal twinning programme.
Manipal is an obvious favourite for JPA due to their vast experience in providing medical education to Malaysians for many decades long and it also has a high Malaysian population there.

niknasir,
manipal is a great place to study and live (of course minus the entertainment factor). i would call it as mini malaysia coz u can get all the major msian delicacies here like nasi lemak, nasi goreng pattaya, meehoon, etc. as for accommodation, u have the option to stay in the hostel or outside. rental for apartments and house is affordable plus you can hire a cook (it's damn cheap!). take note, it's compulsory for 1st yr students to live in hostel. u can also buy a 2nd hand bike to roam around manipal if u like to.
as for the next question, if u're accepted into mmmc, u have to study in manipal which is in karnataka state for 2.5 yrs and finish ur clinical studies in melaka for another 2.5 yrs. there's no entrance exam or whatsoever when u're in manipal. once u're accepted at the melaka campus, u'll be guaranteed a place in manipal. mmmc is exclusively for msians (also some foreigners), we do not mix with the students of other colleges in lectures and practicals, but we do share the same facilities like lecture hall, etc.
hope it has cleared ur doubts.

So sorry but I got few more things to ask here. I really have no one else to ask to- when I called MMMC, the person who answered my questions was actually the librarian though I asked for admission's contacts (and from then I realised all admin staffs in Malaysia are unfirendly).
1) Does that mean even during lectures MMMC students do not attend same classes as KMC's?
2)Also, how bout tests and exams? Are they being examined by KMC's lecturers or the tests and exams are under the administration of MMMC itself?
You see, I got a seat in KMC but I wonder why are the fees and admission of MMMC seem to be independent of KMC itself.
Ok, another sensitive issue here: Is it true that KMC and MMMC's academic teaching is of different quality? (heard from JPA scholars..) ok, dont have to answer if you don wish to.
Also, if I go to KMC, would there be anyone to tell me its worth the pay? I would have to get loans from JPA, yayasan, ptptn just to support me there. The fees is as expensive as Australia and NZ alone and I really do not wish to get a qualification that is not good enough.
And...if I really got to KMC, would there be any Msians willing enough to befriend me? :amuse

For your information, KMC and MMMC are two different colleges under Manipal University.
1) Yes, if I'm not mistaken they share facilities but do not attend same lectures.
2)They have different test.
From what I got online, KMC is recognised by General Medical Council of UK, but I'm not sure about MMMC.
There'll be Malaysian students in KMC, I'm not sure about the number, but don't worry...

Whether recognised or not, doctors outside EU now are no longer eligible to practice in UK unless by miracle they could grab a working permit there.
